Hi again,

Rosie, have you ever heard of "compulsive eating?" People who have that condition often feel out-of-control, and traditional dieting only reinforces that awful feeling. I know because I was once entrapped in that pattern. I grew up weighing double what the other kids weighed, and reached 207 pounds by the time I was 17. After I lost weight, I ate compulsively for a while (constantly feeling that I was obligated to be on a diet, either bingeing or starving, etc). I was "cured" by a secular book, but at the time I wasn't a Christian, so now, I wouldn't recommend that book anymore. But I still agree with its main focus that you can overcome compulsive eating by (as I call it) "getting out of your head and back into your body." You have to forget all the legalistic rules of what you should or shouldn't eat, and become more responsive to your hunger pangs. God gave hunger pangs to you for a reason, right? And, on the flip side, we weren't supposed to have eaten from the Tree of Knowledge, b/c God knew we'd acquire a conscience that would (like in your case) lead you away from the signals He planted into your body. He didn't mean for us to eat for "head" reasons--or at least I don't think He did. Does that make any sense to you?

Girl, stop worrying about what you should or shouldn't eat. Just trust the body that God made, listen to your physiology, eat according to your hunger pangs, and tune out your brain. But when you get hungry and eat, eat tiny portions. Then, when you get hungry again, eat a tiny bit more. And eat what you like. Then, just watch....you'll lose weight without burning yourself out and trying SOOOOOOO hard.

Rosie, I wrote a book exactly on the subject that you're struggling with right now. I have to check on the forum's rules about telling you my website URL so you can check it out. And, if you're sick in any way, you should run that advice past your own doctor so that he or she can modify what I said so that it's right for you. If your doctor disagrees, you should do what he or she says. I really can't give you medical advice.

Is there a moderator in the house? Help, please. Can I tell Rosie my URL address, or can I post it somewhere else? Would that be the type of thing I would post in a private message, and, if so, how do I do that? Thanks.

Wow Rita, this sounds great. I'm a Christian who has been posting a lot on the intutive eating thread under general diet plans. It has been going for 2 yr. but gets slow sometimes as it is right now. I'm really interested in what you are talking about. It sounds a little like Weigh Down without all the quirks Gwen Shamblin promoted. I'd sure be glad to see you posting on IE under General Diet plans. Thanks.

I'm familiar with Weigh Down and with the chaos that surrounds Shamblin, but wonder if your thread on intuitive eating refers to the program that the two lady nutritionists started. I haven't read their book, but I think our philosophies sound similar in some ways. It's just the way God intended for us to eat, IMO.

Probably, I'll start my own thread, just to avoid any unintended overlap with their book. Can I do that?

You pointed out that Weigh Down has quirks. I try to stay away from commenting either way on Gwen's personal beliefs, but I can tell you that I believe in the equality of the Trinity and that we are saved by grace, and that I don't think God cares as much as WE do about how we eat. I was raised Catholic and married a Methodist. You can say my religious views are pretty main stream.

Gotta go see a patient. I'll be in touch later.

We don't go by any particular book there lthough some have read that book. We just try to post our ups and downs and what helps, etc. People come and go as they probably do on all the threads here. I have particular problem with long term prednisone use as I have sarcoidosis and 3 yr. ago my blood calcium started to damage my kidneys. I gained a lot of weight at first but have lost some of that.

Have any of you joined the online course-Setting Captive free-The Lord's Table? Just curious as I was thinking of joining again and starting the lessons-although it is difficult to find the time to complete the lesson in one sitting. I haven't been around much but was just checking on things here.
