Hello to all. I'm still eating this way and want to encourage you all to keep at it. I've recently had to really focus on hunger because of the prednisone and trying to tell real hunger from desire eating. It has helped me to do a little fasting each day. Will see how it goes.

cheetara 05-01-2008 01:37 PM

Hi folks!

I've been doing Intuitive Eating when I realized, DUH!, I should be doing the Weigh Down. So, howdy!

carolr3639 05-13-2008 10:38 AM

Every once in awhile I check in here. The intuitive eating thread is really, really slow right now, too. How are you doing, cheetara?

Hi Patricia!

The Weigh Down Diet was the answer for me. It gave me freedom from food and I honestly don't think I will ever gain back what I lose. Although I am at a standstill at the moment....I have not gained anything back. Something just clicked when I read the book. If you are of the mentally that you start a diet..and the moment you eat something that is not perfect...your plan it blown...this is the book for you.

I did read her very first book. although I am christian, and believe in the power of prayer, and I do that prayer helped me to stop the over-eating...I used the book more for realizing just how much I over-ate and how senseless it was. I know you can probably get a copy really cheap on Amazon.

Let us know how you do on it?

patricia54 08-23-2008 12:59 PM

Anyone on the Weigh Down Diet?

I was just checking back in to see if anyone is on the Weigh Down Diet.I am using the at home program and really enjoying it. I am also reading her first book. Please let me hear from I really need the support.
Thanks, Patricia

Weigh Down Info

Hi Patricia!
I myself have entertained starting up with the principles of the WD diet again but I do have reservations. I hope that my words encourage you and I pray that they do not cause any discouragement. I'll explain... The concept of idolizing food opened my eyes, and paying attention to hunger & fullness worked! I started attending a WD workshop 6 years ago, lost 35lbs my 1st session& continued on, lost total 65lbs. If you want to follow the principles-go for it! I spent more time with God & in His Word seeking His will-it was very rewarding submitting to God and not food.

However, I am cautioning you out of love because I wish for you not to get hurt-it's an easy trap to get into-to need more & more support to lose weight=seeking guidance from Gwen and her staff. From personal experience do not do this. I had become a WD workshop leader, then Gwen started her own church-things started to get extreme from then on. There are multiple web sites that you can look up for yourself, search weigh down workshop & Gwen's Remnant church. Putting trinity doctrine aside, there's big concerns falling under her leadership.:(

After I left WD/Remnant I rebelled and over 3 yrs gained back 25lbs + another 20lbs this past 1.5yrs. It's defintely tempting to go back because it's what I know works-I've even gone her website to see if there are any devotionals for encouragement but I was reminded of how much she has gone astray from her original message. I'm now incorporating into my life a mix of hunger+fullness with Weight Watchers flex plan.

I hope that this was some help to you. :)

Skinny4baby 08-27-2008 12:47 PM

I contribute my weightloss to God firstly for giving me the strength to stop over-eating. I was living my day's just grazing and stuffing myself. I stumbled onto the ORIGINAL weigh down book and found it to be so freeing. The thought that I could eat whatever I wanted...and the freedom of learning to really lishen to my body the way God truely intended us to.

cher37 08-27-2008 05:27 PM

Hi there Skinny4baby :)

Like I had said earlier, I found nothing wrong with the principles of the Weigh Down Diet, Gwen's 1st & 2nd book (Rise Above). I had lost 65lbs following the guidelines of hunger & fullness, and seeking God's Word. That time in my life was one that had me submitting to God not food.

I personally would see nothing wrong with suggesting her books to others to read & apply - it is with only with great caution that I would let them know of where Gwen has gone with her message (which is soooo different from where she started). More of a warning to not go deeper into a WD fellowship. A large % of her church is via internet services & fellowship via teleconference (since most churches (in my area at least) have stopped allowing WD workshops (Gwen's words "false churches")). There have been incidences that have made the mainstream media that have been revealed.

patricia54 08-27-2008 06:26 PM

Thanks for your help

I understand where you are coming from about Gwen and her beliefs.I would never pay her anything now to get advice.I have the WD at home series that is before Gwen started her church.I have read her two books years ago and find the advice to be very helpful.I truly belief if I can learn tor recognize true hunger and rely on God to guide me I really don't need to follow a particular diet. Thanks again for your help
Patricia

If I can anwer any more questions, don't hesitate to ask - I'll do the best I can.

Reaaly going to try WD

I started reading the WD book again and eventhough I don't go along with Gwen's beliefs now I do believe there is some good info in her books.I am going to really try to put God first in everything in my life even my weight loss.thanks for everyone's help with this. Please let me know if there is anyone else doing this.I need all the support I can get.Pray for me that I might be able to focus on God and not food.
Thanks
Patricia

I agree with what has been said, her first book was really good but then she got off track. I have lost about 30 lb doing this with 30 to go taking prednisone all the time. I post mostly on the intuitive eating thread which is similar. There is another program, Thin Within that really started before Gwen that is similar, too. The forum is a bit hard to follow and I like this fourm better but the idea of eating all foods isn't very popular.

I read the Weigh Down book years ago and at the time it sounded to me like she just took the book "The Diet Alternative" by Diane Hampton and puffed it up and spread it out. I liked "The Diet Alternative" much better. I need to get it out and read it again. Can't even remember much about it....Just checked on Amazon and there is a newer edition than mine. Here's some reviews I found comparing them:

"After struggling with concepts of the Weigh Down books by G. Shamblin, The Diet Alternative has been instrumental in opening my eyes to several misconceptions. Ironic that Diet Alternative was written years before, gets right to the point and can truly lead you to real freedom from the overeating monster. Read and take stock of what it says!"

"I believe this was God inspired truth and it is much easier reading and quicker than the Weigh Down Workshop. It just gets right to the point and cuts right to the marrow. It will also increase the quality of your relationship with God because an incredible trust begins to grow and faith is being exercised on to victory. God meets us right we are if we are just willing."

Just info I'm throwing out there -- I know everybody has different preferences! And I don't mean to sound negative about the Weigh Down stuff in any way! I'm not familiar with Intuitive Eating and Thin Within -- sounds interesting. Think I'll go check them out. :)

I'm just bumping up this thread as I'm very interested in this plan and it's concepts; and it seems that lots of others were too (over 7000+ views), but it got lost in the fray for some reason ...

I liked the main idea of the plan ~ Eat good food, but not too much!

I am told you can eat "whatever foods you like", just as long as you eat smaller portions of them. I have been slowly tweaking my plan this way, as I'd much rather eat the foods I really like, especially if I am going to do this for the rest of my life.

My plan is a mix of = Portions + Whole Foods + Volumetrics = Simplicity

I have been looking into this plan, as it reflects a lot of my portioned-based ideas and about eating whole foods; later on, I added in some ideas from Volumetrics (eating lots of low-calorie foods to fill you up i.e. veggies).

PS ~ I'm not so interested in the author and her beliefs, as I am the basic plan and methods. After reading a bit of this thread, I'm hearing that there is a thread here based on a book with a similar idea called 'THIN WITHIN', so I will check that out too ...

Horray for Weigh Down (Don't throw the baby out with the bath water)

:carrot: I did Weigh Down starting 10 years ago and have kept of 25 lbs. I started in Mid Sept and ask the Lord with His help to loose 25 lbs by Christmas. I made it so I got a woven basket and weighed it to be 25 lbs, put a bow on it as my gift from Jesus. I did well for 5 years then have added more weight. BUT when I get close to My 25 lb gift I pick up my rocks and get moving.

I have been playing around with Weight Watchers, Thin Within, 3D diet, GI program and to no success. I don't do good tracking points and calories and weighing weekly.

When on Weigh Down it was such FREEDOM to eat regular food, when hungry and in moderation, and quite my binging, stopping at the check out line and eating a candy bar or just going through a Drive Thru because its there.

I was a Leader for WD for 3 years, at our church. We did Exdous Out of Egypt and the next program. When Gwen left her church and changed thinking and did the Advanced Program, we sent it back.

I was at 3 of her yearly Oasises? the first 2 were great and then with Rebuilding the Walls and going into her own church, she became controlling and legalistic. Also didn't agree with the Trinity.

As it says in Philippains 1:15 - 18 ***even if a church or leader, misused the word, finances etc. rejoice if you heard Christ preached. WE DID, so I am standing on her orig Weigh Down programs. I just purchased Rising Above the magnetic pull of the refrigerator from Weight Down on line, it was $9.99 + shipping and has study book and cassete tapes that go with workbook, this series was done just before the Exodus series.;)

I feel the teaching is good, holds us accountable, seeking the Lord for direction and guidance. Great to eat real food and not count calories or points and just be accountable to Jesus.

Weigh Down Workshop, on line is sending out the AT HOME WEIGH DOWN WORKSHOP AT HOME for just the cost of shipping. Mine was $8.01.
This at home program has VHS tapes and audio cassets to watch & hear. Has a workbook (like the Exodus out of Egypt Study, and a good scripture booklet.
If you get the DVD it is $40+ shipping.

I just really feel I am to get into this program again and would be glad to share and encourage anyone who is interested. God is great, and Gwen will have to stand before the Lord herself. :?: She sure started with a great message.

Sorry post is so long, but wanted to encourage all who are interested in the program and materials.

Love in Christ, Sue

Phil 1:15-18 New American Standard Some to be sure, are preaching Christ even from envy and strife, but some also from good will. the latter do it out of love, knowing that I (Paull) am appointed for the defense of the Gospel. the former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition, rather than from pure motives, thinking to cuase me distress in my imprisonment, What then? Onlythat in every way, whether in prestense or in truth, CHRIST is proclaimed; and in this I REJOICE.

I feel Gwen took her good message and was eaten up by her desire to grow bigger and succeed in other areas (her own church) and was very much decieved and feel into a distorted path.

Hi Everyone: I agree with carolr3639. When Gwen 1st started Weigh Down I loved and her teachings, but now they are alittle out of whack. It's too bad because she is a great teacher and many have lost weight, released from addictions, etc. I am praying for her each day that God will show her the Truth.

If anyone else has an opinion, please post it here. Have a blessed day all.

Ladies, have you heard of the Eden Diet by Dr. Rita Hancock?

She is an awesome Christian physician. Her program is a total non diet oriented program, much like Weigh Down, only non-legalistic.

Like Dr. Rita says...if a "Christian" book or program leaves you feeling depressed, guilt-ridden or feeling bad, that is not the voice of God whispering in your ear."

She has a great website too. Check it out! I wish there were a forum for her plan here on 3FC. There is a forum on Yahoo mail, but I don't like the setup. It's not very user friendly.

Well, just thought I'd share. Go on her website or amazon to check it out and let me know what you think. I have both the book and workbook, but haven't officially started yet.

I was interested in Weigh down, and did research on her books and classes....also found out it is a cult.http://www.midwestoutreach.org/02-In...mblin/GC5.html

It also looks like the entire thing is FREE for online viewing.

I would NOT believe all you "hear" about this group...
I know many of these people and they are for REAL~

I live about an hour from their church and these guys DO lose and keep off all there weight because they help one another FILL their lives with LOVE & SERVICE rather than greed for excess food...
They get to the heart of the matter~
Personally after the birth of our 4 & 5th children (Our twins) I lost 60 pounds on that Weigh Down program and have kept it OFF because its BIBLICAL principles work...
If you KEEP your heart SET on GOD and his kingdom, you dont have time to gorge out on food...

its a LOVE issue~! What you love is what you do...If you LOVE FOOd it will master you and kill you with obesity and chronic disease...

We must eat less...Overeating is ALWAYS the problem....

Love & great joy serving Yahweh~
Lisa
