Meg, you have great musical taste! I love Gnarls Barkley (so does DD--we sing to it in the car!). I'll have to run home and check my iTunes before I can think of something to add to your playlist.
|
Wow, very cool playlist. Here are some more thoughts--
Mas Que Nada by Sergio Mendes (I know, trust me) My Doorbell by White Stripes Bang Bang by David Sanborn (I know, trust me) Girl by Beck Rockstar by Nickleback and for some oldies but goodies-- anything by Modern English, English Beat or the Kinks (particularly "Destroyer") Enjoy, maybe I'll hear the sonic boom all the way up here in Canada! |
Meg: Love your playlist. I think my Ipod is what got me in trouble in the first place. I know I work a lot harder with it as well.
Music is such a personal thing but okay here's what I listen to when I want to get some work done. (Shyly scrolling through my playlists to find something that isn't going to embarress me too badly.) Snow (Hey Oh) (Red Hot Chili Peppers) Suddenly I See (KT Tunstall) Werewolves of London (Warron Zevon) Beautiful(Moby) Lets Work Together (Canned Heat) I Got a Woman (John Mayer) Work it Out (Jurrasic 5 with John Mayer) Hard to Concentrate (Red Hot Chili Peppers) Get it Like you Like It (Ben Harper) Shaking the Tree (remix Peter Gabriel) Cleaning Windows(Van Morrison) Slow Dancing in a Burning Room (John Mayer) Not exactly cardio but I really like this one. Usually use it during my cooldown or abdominal work. |
Okay, Meg, I consulted my iTunes and here are a few recommendations:
Collective Soul--Blender or You Speak my Language or Happiness Hives--Hate to tell You I Told you so Korn--Word Up Killers--Mr. Brightside Matchbox 20--Girl Like That Offspring--One Fine Day Smash Mouth--Can't Get Enough of You Babe Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble--The House is Rockin' Velvet Revolver--Sucker Train Blues or Slither I have very eclectic music tastes. I guess it come from working in a record (CD???--am I dating myself?) store for many years in college. I'll listen to anything except hip hop and rap (okay, there are some rap songs that I like). My DD is planning on going to college to study music and music education. I guess my influence rubbed off on her a little. She's on a run to have more music on her iTunes than I have (and she stole my iPod!). Shall I tell her that she exceeded me months ago? LOL |
I hope this thread continues, I love the ideas. In fact I just remembered I have a double SRVaughn CD and the RHCP CD I can download from. Oh and I love that song Cleaning Windows, I love all Van Morrison music.
I got a couple of songs from a similar thread that I just tried and was happy with. Fighter - Christine Aguilera Bodyrock - Moby Fast Killer kittycat (or something like that) - Oakenfold (a techno DJ) Yeah! - Usher Heartbreaker - Pat Benatar I have to make playlists to organize my music, I'm slowing getting techno savvy! I also like some disco songs, Bee Gees, KC & the Sunshine band and some old favorites for walking...Crazy on You, Barracuda, Magic man, Dog and Butterfly, (all by Heart) etc. Keep the suggestions coming. I think I need to get an arm band because last night my MP3 player went flying at the gym :o I had to get off my machine and pick it up. I also managed to lose the right ear bud cover and I just paid $30 for the darned things :?: |
Here's mine...just thinking about them makes me want to get up and get moving!!!
Sugar--System of a down Raining blood--slayer yeah--usher girls---beastie boys feels so good--sonique Get right---Jennifer lopez wait and bleed--slipknot Descontrolate---zion y lennox rompe---daddy yankee oye mi canto----nina sky |

Inspirational Songs
Let's switch gears and talk about some of the songs that might have inspired us on our weight loss journeys. :) Even though the songs may not be about weight loss per se, maybe they have a special meaning for you?
I listened to these two songs every single day during the year I was losing weight: There Will Come A Day - Faith Hill It's not easy trying to understand How the world can be so cold, stealing the souls of man Cloudy skies rain down on all your dreams You wrestle with the fear and doubt Sometimes it's hard but you gotta believe There's a better place, where our father waits And every tear he'll wipe away The darkness will be gone The weak shall be strong Hold on to your faith There will come a day Win - Brian McKnight Dark is the night I can weather the storm Never say die I’ve been down this road before I’ll never quit I’ll never lay down See I promised myself I would never let me down (chorus) So I’ll never give up Never give in Never let a ray of doubt slip in And if I fall I’ll never fail I’ll just get up and try again Never lose hope Never lose faith There’s much too much at stake Upon myself I must depend I’m not looking for a place or show I’m gonna win Other faves: Right Now - Van Halen Right now, hey It's your tomorrow Right now, C'mon, it's everything Right now, Catch a magic moment, do it Right here and now It means everything Tonight And The Rest Of My Life - Nina Gordon I feel so light This is all I want to feel tonight I feel so light Tonight and the rest of my life Runnin' Down A Dream - Tom Petty Runnin' down a dream That never would come to me Workin on a mystery, Going wherever it leads I'm runnin down a dream Remember The Name - Fort Minor (awesome weightlifting song :strong:) This is ten percent luck Twenty percent skill Fifteen percent concentrated power of will Five percent pleasure Fifty percent pain And a hundred percent reason to remember the name |
"We can be heroes, just for one day." David Bowie
|
Oooh, I like that one - just downloaded it. :D
|
Speaking of Bowie, CHANGES has been played quite a bit on my iPod during the past year. Corny I know but there it is. LANDSLIDE by the Dixie Chicks as well. Probably the only song listed as "country" on my iPod.
|
My favorite for inspiration right now is "Lift" by Shannon Noll. A shortened version was used as the opening for the Australian version of the The Biggest Loser.
"Lift" I know you're hurting Feels like you're learning 'Bout life the hard way And it ain't working Seems like forever That you've been falling It's time to move on You're life is calling, yeah This was never meant to be the end Close the book and start again [CHORUS] Cause I know how hard it can get But you gotta lift You gotta lift And sometimes that's how it is But I know you're stronger Stronger than this You gotta lift You gotta lift When you can feel your Whole body's aching What's left of your heart It won't stop breaking You gotta let go You took a hit Time to pick up now Move on from this This was never meant to be the end Close the book and start again [CHORUS] Cause I know how hard it can get But you gotta lift You gotta lift And sometimes that's how it is But I know you're stronger Stronger than this You gotta Lift yourself up above all the hurt Don't give it Wipe your eyes and remember You're better than this Let them know That they took their best shot And missed C'mon and lift This was never meant to be the end Close the book and start again [CHORUS] Cause I know how hard it can get But you gotta lift You gotta lift And sometimes that's how it is But I know you're stronger Stronger than this You gotta lift You gotta lift Pick up now... Pick up now... |
cardio: part-time lover - stevie wonder
cool down: that i would be good - alanis morrisette |
I'll admit to a playing "My Love" and Sexyback from Justin. I also like the timelessly cheesy one more time
Others on my playlist: -Holding out for a Hero -O Fortuna from Carmina Burana -Dirty Laundry and Muddy Water from Seventh House -Explosive by Bond -Escape from Hellview by CKY -Geek in the Pink by Weezer -Little Drop of Poison -Mi Morena by *sigh* Josh Groban -Canto Allo Vita -Remember Me -Never Let Go -Transylvania Concubine by Rasputina -Ride of the Valkyries by Wagner -You're Easy to Dance with by Danny Kaye -Maneater by Nelly Furtado -Dragostea Din Te by O-Zone -Down by Gravity Kills -Copa Cabana As for inspirational, I can't pick one song, altho lately I do love Josh's new "Don't give up (you are loved)" Its an amazing song, and it always gives me a lift. Otherwise, most of my moving pieces are classical ones. I love Carmina Burana, and it always gets me moving. :) Music is the way to keep motivated. I always tell myself to get through just ...one...more...song when i really want to stop. |
I love music so I had to chime in on this topic. Here are some songs I love to workout to:
:hyper: La Tortura; Whenever, Whatever and Hips Don't Lie by Shakira :carrot: Love Is A Battlefield - Pat Benatar Mama Said Knock You Out - LL Cool J Animals - Nickelback Love Is Neverending - Brad Paisley Walk - Pantera Heaven's on Fire - Kiss 10,000 Angels - Mindy McCreedy Fallen Angel - Poison Tiny Dancer -Tim Mcgraw Cowboy; Fist of Rage; Welcome To the Party - Kid Rock My Worst Fear - Rascall Flatts What Part of No Don't You Understand - Lorrie Morgan Maneater - Nelly Furtado Cool down: Neon - John Mayer Luv U Better - LL Cool J Curious George Soundtrack |
I love all the song ideas on this thread, it's great.
A song that has always inspired me is "You're A Superstar" by Love Inc. It's a great tune to work out to. Very cheesy, very inspiring. |
I love this song for motiviation...
Watch Me Shine - Joanna Pacitti It was on Legally Blond. Does anyone remember it? Heidi |
I really like Watch Me Shine too. That is a great song.
"I Choose" by India Arie featuring Bonnie Raitt is a great song off her new album: "And I choose to be the best that I can be. I choose to be authentic in everything I do. My past don't dictate who I am. I choose. Because you never know where life is going to take you And you can't change where you've been - But today, I have the opportunity to choose." One of my other favorites is from the Lost Boys soundtrack - "I Still Believe" by Tim Capello. I also love Weapon of Choice by Fat Boy Slim, mostly because of the video. It inspires me with the idea of being able to just break into dance if I am moved to - to be able to use my body to express myself. The video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ou9By...elated&search= |
Here is some lyrics for you all to check out.
I’m looking for the answers In my undiscovered soul Searching for the truth In stories better left untold (Chorus) My once unbreakable spirit Is reaching up to heaven For a reason to believe For what is meant to be What do you think????? |
Quote:
as for inspirational lyrics, hmm... haven't pinpointed that, yet. my whole life is heavily inspired by music, so it's hard to choose just one or two songs. |
No Doubt does a version of 'Come on Eileen' that I really like. Our Ilene runs ... so it makes me want to run.
