Is this Normal? please help!

Hi! Since you guys are all exercisers, i thought maybe someone could answer this question. I exercise a lot - I walk the dog an hour per day, play rep hockey 5-7 hours per week, walk home from school (over an hour walk) about twice a week and have dryland training one hour per week. Oh, and I also go for bike rides (1-2 hours per week). So my question is, does anyone else feel really gross if they don't exercise much in a day? Yesterday I discovered I had a concussion (from hockey) and I knew I should just be lying down, but I felt like I had to go for a long walk anyway... I just couldn't stop myself, I felt so gross otherwise. Is this normal, maybe because I am normally so active? you would think that my body would welcome the day off, but i just couldn't give it the day off. Any thoughts or experiences?

I might be walking out on a limb here, but there is such a thing of having anorexia and abusing exercise as your mechanism. How tall are you? Unless you are super short you are probably well within a healthy weight range.

Do you obsessed to exercise or are you really enjoying yourself? How do you treat yourself if you can't exercise? If you are abusing exercise it could be unhealthy. Only a professional can really tell you for sure. I know that what you describe sounds a lot like anorexia. What do you think?

Yes, knowing height is always so much more informative-- I really think our profile page should include a field for height.

That aside, I think people do get "addicted" to exercise... and that's not a bad thing, unless you're using it to cover up other issues. If you're really just enjoying it, then I wouldn't worry about it.

I would have to agree with Puney on this subject. I am not a very educated person when it comes to Anorexia. But I know that when I exercise in the morning, I am happier the rest of the day, but I can't say that I feel gross if I don't exercise the next day. If I am busy and don't get it in, I don't beat myself up over it.

I worked out yesterday morning, and then last night my sister was looking for a gym buddy for the night, I just told her if you can't find anyone else I will go, let me know. My body told me I could do it, so I was willing, but I didn't beat myself up cause I didn't. All I require of myself is 3 mornings at the gym, some weeks I get three some weeks I get 6. It just depends on what I have going on. I do try to walk a couple times a week on top of the gym, but I go when the kids want to, whether I want to or not.

I am 5 foot 7, but I doubt i have anorexia as I still eat...

Well 115pounds for you height is considered under weight. You are just barely in a healthy weight range for you height. I really wouldn't consider losing any more weight.

Hi Glassy!

I have found that I am a bit addicted to exercise too, just because I like the "accomplished" feeling it gives me....nothing wrong with that!
I do have to say that I am a little concerned about you....with you being 5 foot 7 and trying to lose more weight, and possibly being addicted to exercise, it's possible that you might have a condition known as exercise bulimia.
Here is a link to read about it, and if you search the net I'm sure you will find lots more info....I hope you don't get offended, but it's something you might benefit from looking into....I'd hate for you to be unhealthy! Good luck!

Thank you for the link Cassie... It is really informative. I think maybe I do have a problem, a lot of that article sounds a lot like me. And I wasn't completely honest earlier (sorry) - I have suffered from Anorexia in the past. When I was 12-13 I weighed only 85 Lbs (5 foor 4) and then I more or less recovered, but my weight went up to 135. I was uncomfortable with that, so I lost weight back down to what I am now, 120. It is just a bit higher than I am comfortable with... but I thought I had the ana licked. Maybe it has just re-appeared in another form tho. GACK... since I'm doing a tell all here, I might as well add that I have OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). I would really just like to be NORMAL... I know its hard for people who don't have the problem to make suggestions, but i'm at a loss here. any advice on normalfying myself?

Well glassy you are normal where you are now. You are in a 'normal' weight range. Don't let numbers on the scale concern you. I don't care if I am 130 pounds and a size 4 is the same to me as a 120 pounds and a size 4. If you are just worrid about a little tummy flab or something, do some crunches!
