I have not but I will check it out. How many times a night do you go to your class?

2frustrated 03-24-2006 04:51 AM

I teach on Mondays, train on Tuesdays, have a double class on Thursdays then a private lesson on Saturdays. It's crazy :dizzy: and fitting in running and weights on top of that is a bit of a push! Oh and DF gets annoyed that I'm tired when it's bed-time. HELLO? It's BED TIME! That's when we're SUPPOSED to be tired...

At the moment I'm just running once a week and weight training full body once a week, so I actually have 2 non-workout days.

I've been asked if I want to be an instructor for real from October. That means money ch-ching! :D

I would train more often if we lived nearer. We used to live just round the corner, then we had to move because of jobs and things but I still go. It's a 40 mile round trip but it's worth it :D

Oh and I was training last night and we were practising jumping side kicks and juping roundhouse kicks, I wasn't touching this guy, but he said, "It's ok, you can kick me..." So I promptly kicked him in the nuts... Not intentional of course :o

NikM789 03-24-2006 09:31 AM

Lol

OH MY GOD :D poor guy...LOL

40miles you go girl I don't know if I would do something like that

Wow you have a busy week but you know men don't want to hear your tired I get yelled at about that to.

midwife 03-24-2006 01:10 PM

Wow~You are flying through your belts! Good for you! It will take me about 2-3 months per belt, but that's actually okay with me. I am sore from kick cardio last night, but it was fun!

2frustrated 03-27-2006 03:23 AM

 I spent about 3 months training for my red, but the green belt test is at the end of May, so I suppose that's 2 months time. I hope to do blue quicker since it's just compass punches and kicks, which are easy!

Well, I am testing to yellow sash in Shaolin Kung-Fu Hung Gar style on Friday. So exciting! Sifu taught us a little chin na tonight, which is tendon manipulation for self defense. It was fun, but very painful. If any of you get the chance, I highly recommend chin na. Effective!

Congrats on your new belt!

 Good luck for Friday! I'm sure you will do brilliantly!

advise on working out with a (minor) injury

over the weekend i dislocated my pinkie toe (d'oh!) and was wondering if anyone had any opinions about when i might be able to go back to kickboxing (safely). classes are m/w/f/sat. mondays and wednesdays are cardio days (mixed with crunches, push-ups, and limited pilates moves) and fridays and saturdays are pad work (not sparring but partnering with someone-- one has pads, one has gloves and doing structured punch/kick routines then switching, etc). i didn't go last night (because i'm still pretty hobble-y) but i thought i might try and go tomorrow (wednesday) and altogether skip the pad workouts for the next couple of weeks.

any thoughts???

2frustrated 04-12-2006 05:02 AM

Ow!

If the pad work is mainly upper body, then I would go.

Have you got it all taped up so it doesn't move? I broke my little toe on someone's elbow and I think I missed a week or two of classes, but went back and did what I could after that.

Can you go and just do what you can do? Or is your instructor a martial-bully? See how you feel and don't forget to let the instructor know you won't be doing anything that hurts your foot!

midwife 04-12-2006 12:07 PM

Hi guys, I am so bummed. I have a horrible cough so I called in sick for work and then of course I could not justify going to kick cardio last night and I missed it so much. Kicking stuff is just sooooo much fun. I let my inner toddler shine (to paraphrase what someone else said about their inner athlete on another thread!).

 for you - sometimes it's good to take time off. I personally hate it and will train through bad backs, broken bits etc, but it wears you down in the end!

Look after yourself

punkrockgrryl 04-13-2006 11:48 AM

i made it in to kickboxing last night and spoke with the instructor before hand-- she made sure my toes were taped up properly and said i was good to go. i took the intensity down a bit and didn't do much jumping or fast shuffling but hey, something is better than nothing. i think i'll skip the pads classes at least for this next week though. i'm pretty pleased with myself for going-- usually the tiniest sniffle or ow-y is enough to make me stay home.
