Tunes for workouts

What music keeps you motivated to keep moving when your legs are dead or you feel like you can't keep going?

Or just makes the time pass more pleasantly.... I'm not picky, i just need to mix up my usual choices.http://www.cosgan.de/images/smilie/sportlich/d045.gif

I need music with a strong beat, and like you I need it mixed, I can't work out to the same thing every day. One of my favourite workout songs is Go With The Flow by Queens Of The Stone Age. Magic :D

Firmgirl 03-06-2006 05:22 PM

I love anmie themes so, dh goes to http://gendou.com/ to find new songs for me. I also love techno so he gets me a lot of that as well as stuff that has a definite beat so I can slow the movements down and do suqats, leg press etc..

Sushi Penguin 03-06-2006 07:18 PM

I find that a lot of songs by Roxette are great to work out to (unless you can't stand the band, that is). There is a beat, the lyrics are catch and easy to follow so you can sing along in your head.

That being said, most of the time I exercise without music. :)

I'm another one that has to have a strong beat and a steady hard-thumping bass line. I generally use my IPod while treadmilling and find a good, comfy tempo for me is about 120 - 150 beats per minute.

That's also the tempo I use when I do my "hip-hop-back-up-dancer" thing.

I'll generally put together a playlist running 30-45 minutes and just let it run.

Were you looking for actual song suggestions? If you like disco/funk/70s&80s, I can make some suggestions.

eadavenp 03-06-2006 08:29 PM

actual songs would be great.

Thanks!

I just put together a playlist. It's 30.8 minutes long. It's kind of an eclectic collection of tunes, but what they all have in common is a hard-driving beat. Some of the tunes may be a bit hard to get (Deee-Lite is out of print, I think -- I have it on an old compilation CD).
  • Groove is in the Heart -- Deee-Lite
  • I'm Too Sexy -- Right Said Fred
  • I Feel for You -- Chaka Khan
  • I Wanna Be Your Lover -- Prince
  • Now That We Found Love -- Heavy D and the Boyz (the Third World version works, too)
  • Another One Bites the Dust -- Queen
  • Big Time -- Peter Gabriel
I think I'll use this list for tomorrow's workout!

I like Shakira's faster songs... I love "whenever, wherever" and her new song "hips don't lie" is impossible NOT to dance to :)

where is this on iTunes??? i came across some techno mixes, but nothing that looked that great (they looked better for a party or if i was really drunk and wanted to dance).

eadavenp 04-23-2006 04:55 PM

exermusic i think was the name. It was ok but it was also a techno mix type thing, not exactly what i was looking for.

Karma, great list, I like a lot of your choices and some good ideas. I also like anything by Missy Elliott for running, really gets me going. And Pump it by BEP.

london_loser 04-28-2006 02:30 AM

I have a playlist of dancing ditties on my computer which I boogie to at night by the shimmering glow of a glitterlamp.

My advice would be to exercise to the music you love. You might be flagging but then one of your all time favourites comes on and it keeps you going a few more minutes. Works for me, anyway :)

I love trance, pop and disco - some of my favourites include (cheese alert):
  • So Good - Rachel Stevens (125 bpm)
  • Lady - Modjo (126 bpm)
  • Can't Get You Out of my Head - Kylie Minogue (126 bpm)
  • Boogie Wonderland - Earth Wind and Fire (129 bpm)
  • Another Chance - Roger Sanchez (130 bpm)
  • Dance Yourself Dizzy - Liquid Gold (131 bpm)
  • Atomic - Blondie (135 bpm)
  • Just Around The Hill - Sash! (136 bpm)

There's a nifty website that lets you find out the bpm for tracks: http://www.all8.com/tools/bpm.htm
