Coast to Coast sign-up thread is out there

:) Hi ladies! I hope you all had a great weekend.

Dance, thanks for drumming up the interest for the Coast to Coast challenge.
I just put the sign-up e-mail out there. I figured we could start Saturday. That'll give people a chance to sign-up. Plus I'll have my new sneaks and my new pedometer.

Lydia, I hope you sleep better tonight. I am glad the storm missed your town.

steps for Sunday=8,044 (need to get that total, I had a little computer glitch this weekend)

...gotta run, I hope everyone has a nice evening.

Misti in Seattle 03-20-2006 11:16 PM

Yay that is great, HealthierMe!! I am going to run over and sign up. I am sorry I am behind in posting the step counts... was a very busy weekend and Monday but I will get caught up! My steps for today were 14,048.

HealthierMe 03-21-2006 06:41 AM

Dance, 14,048, wow, you were busy!

My steps for Monday= 12,004 (had to keep stepping to break that 12K mark)

So far it's the three of us for the Coast to Coast challenge, but hopefully now that it's stickied, we'll have more people sign-up. We want to get to Seattle before next winter, LOL.

Have a great day!

Michele L 03-21-2006 07:36 AM

My Monday steps were 8430, which makes a total of 208867. It was teacher inservice day, which means TONS of meetings. Then we had to go to a town 40 minutes away to sign our taxes, which meant more sitting, between the drive, the meeting and supper out. I was wiped out when I got home, even though it was only 7:30. Today will be a "normal" day, so I should go back to 10000+.

Michele

Misti in Seattle 03-21-2006 07:58 AM

I think we will get more sign-ups since the thread is up. That is great that you got it stickied!! Yay! And I am hoping that my new pedometer is not measuring too high but I DID really move during both breaks and lunch hour yesterday, and also I do a lot of running around on the job. But even if it is I figure since I am up for an hour or so before I put it on and I take it off when I get home from work (so miss those steps) it will balance it out. I think I am going to try to find one of the Omron ones like Lena's. Lena, what was the model number of it again???

LadyFirelyght 03-21-2006 08:45 AM

My steps for yesterday (monday) were... get ready...

3,005. :p I really did not do anything except help unload my dad's pickup truck. I just sort of lazed around all day... played with the kitty outside. He sure does love to chase butterflies! Hopefully today will be better. It's a cool day, so I plan on starting my Couch to 5k plan. That should get the steps up!

Edit: so including yesterday's steps, my total is 147,659

Misti in Seattle 03-21-2006 08:58 AM

That's okay, Lydia... you will get in TONS of steps come Saturday when we leave Hopedale LOL

I am going to google to try to find their website so I can "see" where I am walking LOL

Less of Lena 03-21-2006 09:46 AM

Good Tuesday morning, everyone!!!

Lydia, I've gotten to love t-storms since we move to the Mid-West. When I lived out East, we had storms but here in the Mid-West, we have STORMS! Beautiful, awesome, specatular displays of light and sound!

Tornadoes are a whole different story, though. Not fond of them at all. And DS hates them. Because this area has been known to have a few tornadoes, we've arranged a tornado kit in the basement (battery powered TV and lights, a phone, table and chairs, food and water, etc.).

We're coming into tornado season. Better make sure I have plenty of batteries.

Hey, good luck with the Couch-to-5K plan! Lots of folks credit it with getting them really going!

Dance, the ped is Omron HJ-112. I know it's carried at Walgreens. Not sure where else. Great job on those steps, by the way!

You, too, Michele! I'm amazed you could generate such a high number even during conferences! That's great and shows a lot of determination!

And look at Chris (HealthierMe) go! I love it!

I had a good steppin' day yesterday (Monday, March 20), at 11,043. Total since start = 277,241

Misti in Seattle 03-22-2006 12:05 AM

Wow I got behind but hope I have it all caught up now!! :) Our total steps walked are 1,162,525.

My total for today was 14,226. I decided my pedometer is working! I used to get 10-12,000 when I was walking before but I was taking lots of breaks and leaning on all the poles, LOL. Now I move! I have increased my speed and distance and almost never take a break on my lunch walk so I guess I really am GETTING that many LOL

I am excited about Saturday. I googled the website of Hopedale MA and am studying up on where I will be walking LOL. Wow I read the history and it is fascinating! And I found a site with a whole bunch of pictures! Wow some snowstorm on Feb. 12. :)

Michele L 03-22-2006 07:40 AM

I had a GREAT day Tuesday!!! 16462 steps!!!

March total of 225329 steps!

Happy walking, ladies!

Michele

Misti in Seattle 03-22-2006 07:51 AM

Wow, Michele! That is awesome!

Misti in Seattle 03-22-2006 08:45 AM

Hey everybody

I am thinking we should keep this thread going until Friday or whenever HM posts the new chat thread (assuming there is one coming) for the Coast to Coast... and then all jump over there and post a link here... what do you think?

LadyFirelyght 03-22-2006 09:41 AM

Well, yesterday I started the C25K program. I... well, I couldn't even finish the first workout. But eh, I did my best, pushed myself as far as I could safely go, and I'm not gonna worry about the fact that I didn't do it all.

Yesterday (tuesday) my steps totaled 5,062, bringing my total for the challenge up to 152,721. Hooray!

Less of Lena 03-22-2006 03:56 PM

Sounds like a good idea, Dance. If I were you, I might even consider having this thread closed and locked (after putting up the link). By the way, have I said thank you for being so diligent in keeping the totals? You've done a fantastic job and I know having to be accountable has really helped me stay on track!

Your 14K in a day is great, too! You must be so proud of yourself, you've really taken to this walking routine!

Wowsers, Michele! That's some great day, alright! Good job!!! Is that your highest daily total ever?

Hooray for Lydia on starting your C25K program! I don't think I could do it at all! I'm so proud of you! And hooray for cracking the 150K mark!

As for me, I had to struggle a bit to get 10K in yesterday. Had to hop on the treaddy for an additional 10 minutes to bump the total up. Steps for yesterday, March 21 = 10,191. Total contribution = 287,432.

I think I'll make it my goal to have contributed 300K before we close up this thread! That's certainly doable between today and Friday! Heck, if I get real ambitious, I could maybe knock it out today!

HealthierMe 03-22-2006 08:00 PM

Hi everyone!

Things have been really crazy so I haven't had much time to post.

I lost my pedometer :( Luckily I'm planning to get the new one on Saturday. I did try a new cardi kickbox class at the wellness center at work. I went Monday and again today. It was tough but I modified a bit and got through. So I am proud of that.

The new thread WILL be up on Saturday, and we'll walk our way out of Hopedale. There are 8 of us now. Yay. We'll have to walk in a single file line. can you tell I have a little guy? ;)

Dance 14K, you are cranking! It is an interesting little town. It's small and pretty old-fashioned, we call it Mayberry sometimes.

Michele, you too, wow, you GO GIRL!

Lydia, what is the Couch to 5K plan? Am I just being dense? and almost 150K, that's great!

Lena, you got in your 10K, good going!

Chat more with you all soon.

Misti in Seattle 03-22-2006 08:04 PM

Wow, everyone is doing just great and I feel we are in good shape to start out across the country LOL. I was telling one of my friends about this and she was laughing and said she could just "see" us all traipsing down I90! :)

Lena I did not know you could close and lock a thread... that is a good idea. Do I just email a moderator? I think we should move over there ASAP with chat since there are some new people signing up and we need to let them know how welcome they are!!

And HM... I don't know what a Couch to 5k plan is either LOL. Come on, Lydia, tell tell... inquiring minds want to know!! :)

BTW I am planning to make a new walking ticker with the whole 3000 or whatever miles on it as soon as we get the info!!! I will make it different at big cities or when we cross a state line, etc... and also say what it is and "Join Us"...

HealthierMe 03-22-2006 08:19 PM

Dance, I love that new ticker idea:)

LadyFirelyght 03-22-2006 08:24 PM

Couch to 5K plan: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
I heard a bunch of people on here talking about it, so I decided to give it a try!

Misti in Seattle 03-22-2006 08:26 PM

Glad you like the idea HM! Maybe others will pick up on it and make them too! :)

Lydia, thanks for the info! I can't run yet -- my legs want to but I am too topheavy LOL and THAT end can't take it!! :)

Less of Lena 03-22-2006 10:05 PM

Dance, yes, I think you can just email or message a mod and they can lock the thread for you.

Oh, Chris! I feel for you, losing your pedo. I'd feel lost without mine -- it's become such a part of me now!

I'm so impressed with you, Lydia, doing the C25K. Are you doing it on a treadmill or outside? I can't even do 20 seconds of jogging without feeling like my heart's gonna explode. Not to mention EVERYthing flops and jiggles around too much for comfort -- thighs, jaws, butt, the "ladies"... Sad, eh?

But I can walk for days!

LadyFirelyght 03-22-2006 10:23 PM

I'm doing it outside. Unfortunately, no treadmill (right now), and no money for a gym. I'm thinking about asking my mom if she wants to go in together to get a treadmill. It might take 6 months for us to save up together, but it would be great!

I know what you mean about the jigglies. My girls are, luckily or not depending on perspective :p, smaller in comparison to the other parts, so any bra really does the trick in keeping them in line. But my butt and thighs absolutely drive me insane. I feel like I'm going to fall over sometimes because I get out of balance. All the more reason to keep running, though! I figure that if I can run even a little bit, that'll do a ton more good than the same amount of walking. The faster I can get the jigglies reduced, theh better!

Misti in Seattle 03-22-2006 11:29 PM

HM, sorry you lost your pedo... you will have a brand new one to go with your new sneakers!!

LOL Lydia, I am the opposite. If my butt was my biggest problem I would be doing great! :) I have small legs, small butt... but my stomach is a mess and "ladies" as you call them... yikes! There is no bra built that can hold these things up!! I was actually seriously considering surgery with my doctor's approval but have decided to try to beat off the weight instead as I do lose there.

Lena, thanks for the info... I think I will have the thread locked as soon as HM gets the new one up.

HealthierMe 03-23-2006 06:50 AM

It's up, It's up

Good morning everyone-
I've got to dash off to work, but I wanted to let you know the Coast to Coast challenge thread is up and going. have a great day, I'll check back tonight.

LENA, I am glad that "you can walk for days" We'll need those miles to make it to Seattle, LOL.

Michele L 03-23-2006 07:50 AM

Wednesday's steps: 7999

Total for March: 233328

Hoping for a better day today.

Happy Walking!

Michele

dalai_lala 03-23-2006 08:16 AM

Hey, if you guys do the Million More March, I'd like to come in. I am going to try to remember to get a pedometer this weekend so that I can start counting steps in April. Are you going to start a new thread or keep this one?

-lala

Misti in Seattle 03-23-2006 08:30 AM

Hi Lala

Welcome!! Rather than a million more march we are going to do the Coast to Coast Challenge, starting Saturday! The sign up thread is here

http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79436

so hope you will march over there and join us! HealthierMe has set this up for us and will have a related chat thread also on Saturday.

So we won't be in THIS thread but we will still be around!! Hope to see you there!!!

LadyFirelyght 03-23-2006 09:22 AM

Dance: My weight is pretty evenly distributed, which is pretty good for me. It makes it seem like I weigh less than I actually do! When I told some close family members and friends how much I weighed, they were shocked! Even at my highest weight (180) I still fit into a size 12 jean and a medium shirt (most of the time). Unfortunately for me, I think my "girls" have been the thing to shrink the most since I lost weight. I was afraid of that, but at least I was prepared. I'm sure that once I get down to my goal weight, I'm going to be like my second oldest sister: flat as a fritter  It's all good, though. Quality, not quantity, eh? ;)

I logged 5,038 steps yesterday. Not a bad day, considering I did almost nothing :p. That brings my total up to 157,759. Today is another C25K day. Wish me luck!

Less of Lena 03-23-2006 10:04 AM

Good morning, everyone!

I'm another who's fairly well distributed, neck to ankles. Even my doctor said I don't look like I weigh as much as I do. I have an odd hourglass (bust and butt, so I stick out front and back, not side to side). Pregnancy permanently stretched out my waistline (but it was sooooo worth it, so no complaints!).

I'm hoping it will come off evenly.

Hi there, Lala! Glad you're going to be joining up! This is going to be fun!

Great job on the steps yesterday, folks! I didn't *quite* squeak out enough to pass the 300K mark yesterday, but I'll definitely get it today. I pulled in 10,507 (Wednesday, March 22), for a total of 297,939.

LadyFirelyght 03-23-2006 12:03 PM

Well folks, it's 11am and I've already got over 7,700 steps. You think this is going to be a great day for me? :D

HealthierMe 03-23-2006 07:47 PM

Wow Lydia, 7,700 by 11am. You go girl!

Misti in Seattle 03-23-2006 08:38 PM

Will post more later... just checking in briefly as I have Mongolian Grill takeout for dinner and it is calling my name LOL. I am envious of you evenly distributed people LOL. But at least I don't have the big problem of butt and thighs that is common. Actually I am told my weight distribution is typical for hypothryoid.

Hey I was afraid my ped was giving too high a reading so I counted 1000 steps... it was exact! I really am getting all those steps LOL... today it was 12,609. Wow Lydia you sure got a lot for so early!

Michele L 03-24-2006 07:47 AM

Way to go, everyone! We'll make that Coast to Coast in no time! Are we starting with Saturday's steps (which I won't post til Sunday)?

Anyway.....my week has been a little slow, which seems crazy when I'M the only parent since Wed morning. My steps SHOULD be higher. Heaven knows I'm running around more! But I think what's happened is that I'm sitting more at school. I'm grading papers, testing classes or listening to presentations from them. Monday is the end of the term, so this all HAS to be done ASAP. Starting Tuesday, it will start to go back to my being up and moving more. I guess I just need to get up every once in a while and take a walk just to be moving (especially during my prep).

Thursday's numbers: 9108 steps
March total: 242436 steps

Hoping to hit 300,000 by the end of the month. I'm at 860398 for the year. I don't know if I can hit a million by Easter, but that's my goal. Guess I better kick it up a notch!

Happy Friday!

Michele

Misti in Seattle 03-24-2006 08:17 AM

Great job, Michele! Yes I think we should post Friday's here and then close the thread... I will post our totals for all our steps and then how about if we consider this our "warmup" session for the cross country challenge LOL. Tonight I will post a notice here with a link over there... and then after the weekend (so everyone has a chance to see the total) I will email the moderators to see about closing the thread. But in the meantime put a big STOP message and link.

LadyFirelyght 03-24-2006 09:48 AM

My total for yesterday was 9,330! Not only did I make it up to 167,089 for the challenge, I completed my 50-mile walking goal for March! I'm so excited :D

Less of Lena 03-24-2006 10:02 AM

Morning, Steppers! And a great TGIF to you all!

Wow, Lydia, you did fantastic! Congrats on hitting the 50 mile mark! Do you realize that is enough to cover the entire State of Rhode Island, north to south, with a few miles into Connecticut? Go, Lydia, go!

Michele, do you teach elementary school? How many students do you have? Your numbers are great! You'll definitely hit 300K for March if you keep up at this rate!

Don't you love it when you do an audit and have it come out just right, Dance? That has to make you feel so good that you're really, really racking up those steps and it's not just the ped playing tricks on you! You have done so well, and I'm so proud of you!

As for me, I got in 12,261 yesterday, Thursday, March 23. That brings my personal total for March 2006 to 201,091! I'm thrilled to have passed 200K -- aiming for 250 for the month!

My total contribution for March of the Chicks = 310,200! I'm so happy to have hit 300 before we closed the thread!

I think we are 100% ready to hit the big time! Let's go! :running:

Michele L 03-24-2006 10:15 AM

Lena, I am a High School Spanish teacher. I have about 65 kids in 3 classes. The problem is, I have 11 in Spanish II and 24 and 27 in Spanish I. Anything more than 20 is too many for quality instruction! Unfortunately, many of our freshmen and sophomores are not motivated to do their homework, so after Monday my classes will shrink. They can't continue if they fail. I'm disappointed, but they HAVE to learn to do the work and accept the consequences if they don't!

Sorry for the rambling and venting!

Chat with you later!

Michele

Misti in Seattle 03-24-2006 10:27 PM

Okay here we go.... what has been posted so far we have gone

1,289,913 steps

with some more for Friday still to come in. We are all in great shape for the Coast to Coast... see you tomorrow morning in Hopedale LOL!

This is SO much fun... far more fun than sitting around whining about having to be on "diets" LOL Wheweeewwweeeew tomorrow night my ticker will get to start moving LOL

Less of Lena 03-24-2006 11:39 PM

Hmmmm I just realized today that we're starting the Coast-to-Coast on a Saturday! Historically, my Saturdays have been somewhat less than stellar in the steps department (remember my 1,792 day? Yep, a Saturday!)

Well, in honor of the Challenge we have set before us, I hereby declare I'm a-gonna march my little shoes off tomorrow! Well, at least by Saturday standards!

Wheeeeee off we go!

Misti in Seattle 03-24-2006 11:45 PM

LOL Lena, no one ever accused you of being QUICK, did they? :) I am the opposite... Saturday is usually my BIG stepper day but since I work at Love INC (food bank) tomorrow there is no way I will be able to do as much stepping as usual!! This is going to be toooooo fun though! And since the thread is stickied I think we will get more people as we go along!!! I hope so or I may be spending the winter in Detroit or somewhere LOL

Misti

Michele L 03-25-2006 08:18 AM

Friday's steps: 10915
March total: 253351

Here we go on our trek from Coast to Coast!!!!

Happy walking!
