Exercise sneakers

Any exercise sneaker recommendations?? The sneakers I have really aren't for exercise and because the sole of the shoe is so flat, it always hurts the arch particularly in my left foot. Right now, my exercise consists of Turbo Jam which is a cardio routine and Billy's Bootcamp. When the weather is nicer I would like to add walking to my schedule. So, good ahead, tell me about the kicks that have rocked your world. I've heard the SHOX from Nike are very good, what sneaker works for you??

I have worn Avia's for years. I wear them to work too. They feel good, stand up well and the price is not too bad.

I would go to a specialized shoe store ie Runner's World and have them evaluate your foot re: weight distribution, arch type and gait type. I always recommend that you invest in a really good shoe in order to help prevent injury. Personally I like New Balance montion control shoes, but I'm a bad overpronator. Good luck!

I'd have to second boarderchick's suggestion of going into a speciality store and getting fitted properly. Depending on my workout, I wear New Balance 1007 cross-trainers and some ugly-but-oh-so-comfy Brooks Synergy 2 walking shoes.

We have a friend that is a podiatrist and recommends New Balance tennies.

I bought a pair of Nike Shox, they are somewhat pricey, but I think they are worth every penny.

I have really wide feet so I opted for comfort over brand and Ryka are my workout shoes. I also bought a comfort sole for in them and it is like walking on air! Best shoes I've ever owned!

As a person with lifelong foot problems and multiple foot surgeries, I will tell you that everyone's feet are different. I echo the others that you should go to a running store -- NOT a sports store -- and be fitted by a certified pedorthist. The big box stores like Sports Authority, Oshman's, etc. do not generally have people on staff who know anything about feet. A running store pedorthist deals with soccer teams, sports injuries, etc and they know how to fit you best. You will help yourself avoid injury if you wear the right shoes.

I went to a running shop today to get some new shoes and the difference was amazing. They actually took the time to look at my running style, listen to what I wanted and find something that was good for me. I don't think I'll ever go back to a pile 'em high sports shop again after that!

I like that -- "pile 'em high sports shop"! Another thing about those stores is that they get a lower quality/discount quality shoe from the manufacturers. That's why you'll see New Balances on sale for $35.
