Ab workout's how often?

  • Okay im sure it's been asked before but I did a search and couldn't find any info so, How often can i workout my abs? I love training them and IF i skip a day they feel flabby right away! And- Is there any specific move that helps with the lower abdominals? I had my dd over a year ago and have a "buldge belly" on my lower abs that I would love to get rid of. And Im aware you cannot spot train but I do feel a difference and I am working out in other way's as well I am just curious if anyone knows. Thanks! - kim
  • Kim, have you ever been to www.stumptuous.com. Krista is wonderful and funny. I'm sure you'll enjoy her and her site's advice on workouts.

My inexperienced rule of thumb is 'if it still hurts from last time, it's not time to do it again'

Let's see what the others have to say.
  • My trainer told me to work them every day!! I didnt think you should, due to letting your muscles rest, but he's the trainer!!

  • Meg, one of the trainers on the forum here, went to a seminar not long ago and it was recommended that abs need the same rest as any other muscle group, 1 or 2 days depending on the intensity of your workout......
  • This is good to know!!
    Thanks for the info!

  • I believe you can work out your abs everyday without causing any injuries, just remember to work out your back too. That's what our physiology professor told us anyways. Abs doesn't seem to need the rest time like the rest of the body does.
  • Hmmm, like Ilene said, I attended a workshop given by the head of all personal trainers for the gym chain where I work. He said that doing abs every day will cause microscarring in the muscle and to give them a day off, like any other muscle group. I guess expert opinions differ, but I don't do abs more than three times a week myself.
  • I'm not sure anyone has mentioned that we all have muscles under our belly fat. They must be adequate because they hold our innards in, right?

My 'belly' does not go away until the fat does. Is that statement too simple?
