speed of walking, jogging, running
hello...
I dont post much, but i do read lots of posts and find them to be very helpful Just wondering what exactly everyone thinks of when they say they walk/jog/or run...i guess its pretty relative to what you can do, but how fast is a jog vs a run? for me i guess it changed since i started to really train walking=well any speed not at jogging or running pace...duh :) jogging=5-6.7 mph on a treadmill, or highest around a 9 1/2 min mile running= i guess anything above that, but the highest i ever get is about 8 mph on the treadmill...or about 7 1/2 min mile...but that doesnt last too long i dont know, i guess i just wondered if this is slow or around the right speed to be running...i would love to sprint a 6 min mile....but i dont see that in near the future...yet |
Sorry, I'm not much help here! I don't really jog or run at this point; I walk at 3.5-4.0 miles

I consider myself a runner, and my fastest speed has been a 9:30 mile. I usually run between a 10 and a 10:30 mile.
I read once that the difference between a runner and a jogger is that once you have run your first race, you are a runner. When I take my dog with me, I say i am jogging because we are always stopping and playing. :D |
I do a quick walk at 3.8 mph. I know I know I'm sloooow.
I started out walking at 3.0 and that was pain. Then 3.5 and that was really tough. It's taken me a while to get up to comfortably moving along at 3.8. I would love to get up to 4.5 which I think for me would be a light jog. I really have to take it slow at first. Maybe by March I'll be comfortable around 4.5. |
I don't think the difference between walking/jogging/running is so much the actual time but rather than way you do them. To me, any stride that leaves one foot on the ground at any given time is walking. Anything that has a "jumping" type motion is jogging. Running is the same as jogging but with a longer stride, more forward motion and less up & down.
