Now how the heck am I still in the list? I haven't exercised in nearly a month. LOL Not since they closed the pool. Walking leaves me in bed with a terrible backache. Waiting to be induced tomorrow, then NO exercise until I heal.

Dinahgirl 10-02-2005 11:34 AM

I joined the PC today. This will be a good challenge for me, as I travel a lot for my job and it's sometimes difficult to stay on top of my exercise. This will help me stay accountable.

Tealeaf 10-03-2005 01:02 PM

Almost Heavan,

You're still on the list because you recorded *some* exercise during the month. We only had 10 active participants, so you could have entered 1 point and made it. I'm not removing inactive people because, well, getting into a healthy lifestyle can be a very start and stop process. I know that I tried it a few times before it actually stuck. If someone does it for a while, stops, and then decided to do it again I wanted them to have all their points and stuff available, and not have to go through the log in process again.

This program has actually helped me. Before I started, I thought I was exercising regularly. I really did. But after actually tracking it, and getting stars for it (stars! How quaint! How... 1st Grade.) I found that was rarely actually getting stars. Seems I was good at finding excuses to blow off a day here or there during the week. Didn't seem like it was as often as I was really doing it, though, but the stars don't lie. It caused me to focus on what I was *really* doing, and make some changes. I've gotten full stars for 8 or 9 weeks running now. I don't know that I would be at the activity level I am were it not for this program.

I came across this post and thought it sounded like fun. I already record my stuff on fitday so this isn't any more trouble than that and it gives a little extra push because now I know that others will know what I'm doing (or not doing, lol). So here I go. Wish me luck. And good luck to everyone else out there.

time4aChange 10-03-2005 03:16 PM

Hey thanks for posting this! I am new to this and I just joined the PC. This should be interesting LOL!

iowasteph2 10-03-2005 10:34 PM

I just joined!! I need a little extra motivation lately! Yeah!

Betani 10-04-2005 09:40 AM

I'm surprised I'm still up there. I've been in and out of commission this past month. It'll be a while till I get that silver, but I'm working at it!

KAR73 10-04-2005 10:48 AM

Thanks for posting the PC website. I joined last night to help keep me motivated and challenged. I look forward to tracking my fitness progress and sharing with you all .

Can we get the PC link made a sticky?? I know I will end up forgetting to log my results!!!! I joined today!!!

Tealeaf 10-04-2005 01:38 PM

I guess it couldn't hurt to request that the login be made a sticky. I'll email the 3FC admins. There are already alot of stickies, so I wouldn't be too upset should the answer be "no". We'll see how it goes.

Tealeaf 10-05-2005 02:16 AM

Thanks to IIene for making the sticky happen!

Chickadee 10-07-2005 05:36 PM

I just joined you all in this challenge. Very cool stuff!

Yippee!! I have a star! I feel like I'm back in kindergarten :dizzy:

amylizmc 10-09-2005 09:05 AM

Hi,

I just joined in this challenge, too. I'm really glad it's here. It's helping keep me motivated!

FL_Chickie 10-09-2005 09:57 AM

I just joined too, now off to the gym with me!

Tealeaf 10-12-2005 12:12 PM

Getting stars, as kindergarten as is it, really did motivate me at first. I might not have felt like walking that day, but I didn't want to miss out on getting another star! Now my exercise is more of a habit, and I routinely do more than I need to get the stars. But getting into a good habit can be hard, and I don't think I would have done as well at it were it not for this program.

Dinahgirl 10-12-2005 07:53 PM

Don't misunderstand me--I do like my stars!

Tealeaf 10-13-2005 01:46 PM

Sorry if I sounded like I was making it seem like you were dissing the stars! I bet there was some huge government study to see what symbol people would respond to the best.

AquaWarlock 10-14-2005 02:55 PM

Yep the stars are a good motivator! I just wish they have auto-login features :\

Anyhoo, I joined the challenge last week and officially joined this challenge group today! Go everyone! :cheer:

EDIT: heh, did my day 6's worth of exercise, now I also wish the program would make a graphic for people for going beyond 5 days (glowing star? star with an outline? ;) )

Also, question: Anyone who does Denise Austin DVD's aerobics (specifically Personal Training System & Power Zone) - do you log the cardio portion as moderate or vigorous aerobics?

chick_in_the_hat 10-14-2005 05:20 PM

i joined,too....can't wait til i get my gold star :D

Dinahgirl 10-14-2005 07:16 PM

AquaWarlock, I think you should log that depending on your perceived exertion. For me, the cardio on that DVD is intense right now. But for someone else (and as I build my own stamina) it will be less. Does that make sense?

I'm proud to say I have TWO BIG STARS! But only because they count "household activities". One night I didn't do any exercise per se, but I did laundry, sweeping, etc. Seems like cheating somehow, but I'll take it!

Tealeaf 10-15-2005 02:00 AM

Well, you don't get special glowy stars or anything for going above the minium needed, but you are still earning points. I hate to admit this, but I'm competitive enough that knowing that I am working towards being/staying in the top ten for the monthly postings is something of a motivator. I also like seeing how I'm doing against all other people in the program who are in my age group or state.

My state is apparently filled with a bunch of slackers!

SweetKisses03 10-15-2005 03:15 AM

I joined it today :)

R-ME wife 10-15-2005 04:07 AM

Hello everyone... I joined the President's Challenge just now and am excited about getting started! I seriously needed something to motivate me to get off my bee-hind. I just joined 3FatChicks.com a couple of nights ago... I just stumbled onto the site and am SO glad I did. I joined Weight Watchers 9 weeks ago, 3 weeks after my daughter was born. I have lost 18 lbs so far. My husband comes home from Iraq at the end of this year, so I really want to lose a lot of weight before he gets back! I hope I get the hang of this website pretty soon, cause I've finding it sort of difficult to navigate, but I'm half-stupid most of the time, anyway! LOL..... good luck to all!

Tealeaf 10-15-2005 05:27 AM

Welcome aboard! We love newbies here! I hope the program is as useful to you in motivating you to exercise as it was for me.

Chickadee 10-17-2005 05:09 PM

I'm loving this challenge! I'm trying to get to 20,000 points for my bronze award and somehow it helps to be accountable. I'm also competetive and doing pretty darn good for an old lady!

It's exciting to me that this Presidental Challenge group is getting so much attention. When I started the group, I wasn't sure if anyone else would join or not. Now I have to believe we are one of the bigger groups out there.

I can't wait till the start of next month to post our stats on how we did.
