Burning Sensation in Feet

Just returned to 3FC about a month ago and have been increasing walking distance gradually for the past 2 months - made great strides (no pun) in September. Lately, as I approach the 3rd mile of my daily walks, I begin to experience a sort of tingling, slight burning on the soles of my feet.

Anyone have experience/knowledge of what this is about?

Thanks in advance,
Jean

You may or may not have Plantar Fasciitis. Get it check by a podiatrist or a chiropodist. My g/f got over it by getting orthotics and ultra sound therapy...

How old are your shoes? Walking/running shoes start wearing thin (though you can't always see it) after five or six months, depending on how much mileage you're putting on them. You might try getting professionally fitted at a running shoe store to see if that's the problem. Meanwhile, try some gel orthotics that you can buy at any drugstore.

Any diabetes?

You might just be getting tired feet! ;) I would get it checked out though, just to rule anything more serious out!

What kind of socks are you wearing? If you have sensitive feet and are wearing cotton socks that are a bit lumpy or coarse, the rubbing could be making your feet burn. Maybe you should try softer socks - there are all kinds of really comfy running socks of varying thickness available. (The two-layer type are really nice.)

It's the Socks!!!!!!!

Carla, you were spot on regarding the socks! :dizzy: The coarse yarns of my former crew socks were like walking on rope! What a relief! With no diabetes, heel spurs, and having had these shoes professionally fit a little over 2 months ago, I figured it was a freaky feeling of foot fatigue.

This is the one suggestion I didn't take from folks who've been walking for years - "beware of cotton socks." I didn't think it mattered until I had worked up to walking over 4 miles daily and became really disheartened after mile #2.

Thanks again, Carla. Switching socks has made a big difference!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions - much appreciated.

Take care,
Jean

Thank you so much! I have to get different socks now, but it's better than having burning feet. That really helped, Carla.
