Hi everyone!

Joanne, here I am. I live in Haines City which is in NE Polk county. I've had my share of fat weekends too.

Florida weather is so unstable. It was 88 degrees today, then it rained cats and dogs this afternoon.

I weighed in 2 pounds lighter last night. This has been a hard week as far as exercise goes. I got my walking in as planned, but missed my strength training session Monday. I guess my body needed rest more than exercise. I have had a healthy food week so far.

Hey There

Vivica, I used to have realatives in Auburndale and probably still do. The names were Raymond and Barrineau. Oldtimers in that town. Everybody knew them.My Daddy's brother had Barrineau Retread for years. My G/Father was a building contracter there. I have not been having a lot of luck losing lately. Maybe my occasional slips are working against me. If they were major slips I could understand. I was only able to walk 2 miles yesterday. My arthritis has really been hurting. Maybe it is the weather change. We should have cooler weather coming in today.
Michaela, Liz ,Keep up the good work. I bought candy for the kids for Halloween. I hope I can stay out of it.
Taz- How are you? How do you like your new tread?
Bye for now...Joanne

Hi Everybody

Today was a good day. I just walked my dog for 20 minutes at her slow pace, and then walked quickly 45 minutes alone. I got in some weight training today too. My current weight is 259. My starting weight was about 280 on September 2.

Joanne: I'm sorry to here about your arthritis. Ask your Dr. if you can try Celebrex. It helped my hubby with his pain. It's commendable that you got any exercise at all since you were hurting. 2 miles is nothing to sneeze at. The weight loss will come when it comes.

Take Care Ladies

  :)

Joanne D 10-26-2001 08:47 PM

Hey There

Vivica- I have been on every kind of arthritis med there is ,I think. Celebrex was the last one. The Dr. took me off and said he didn't want me on it unless I had inflamation and swelling with the pain.I have a very bad stomach from all the meds. I don't take anything but Tylenol and /or Advil anymore. I have learned to live with pain and I try to ignore it until it gets bad. I think the weather change has a lot to do with it. I usually hurt more in the cold weather. Enough of that.!!.. I walked three miles this evening and it was a lot easier.
Hello to all my friends here. Joanne

I used to weigh 212
I now weigh 150
I want to weigh 140:^:

new here, love to walk

Hi everyone:

I was delighted to find this thread. I just joined, and have posted in a few threads. Used to walk about 6 - 8 km a day back in 1994-95, when I went on a serious walking program. However, I was pretty carefree then too. . .now, with working motherhood, demands, demands, demands, I can find any excuse not to get out there.

Has anyone had the experience of going off a walking program and getting back on it several years later? Do you think muscles have "memory"? I'm hoping they do, because I feel really out of shape now and wonder how long it's going to take to have that old feeling again. Actually got to the point the last time where I craved the exercise.

Have about 70 pounds to lose. Horrible. Just bought the scale yesterday. How did it ever get this bad?

Any support out there most welcome.

Hello guys,

I hope you all have been doing well. You are not going to believe this but the treadmill saga is still alive and well.
When the treadmill was delivered on the satuerday after my birthday it came broken and had top be takten back to the warehouse. Sears rescheduled the delivery for the following Wendsday. That one was delivered and set up. Once the delivery men were gone I rtied to walk on it and found that about 6 of the speeds on the control panel isn't working. Now it is sitting in my exercise room waiting to be picked up. Sears offered me a top end treadmill to compensate for my inconvience so when this one is picked up they will deliver a Nordic trec for the same price I paid for the Pro form. I can wait for it now. That Nordic trac has a really nice warrentee and is so quiet when walking plus it has some really cushion to the belt. I'll keep you guys posted on the latest.

I'm still walking everyday but I'm using the track at the gym. It is so short and it takes about 22 laps to make a mile but untill I get this treadmill thing fixed I do what I must. :)

Well I'm cuting this just short of a novel

I hope everyones day is going great!

Joanne: I'm so sorry to hear about your Arthritis. It is good the doctor took you off the meds. You only need to take them during times of a flare up. Ohter wise you'll build up a tollerence to them and they will stop being effective for you.

Jess: Welcome and you are not alone. How did any of us get into such bad shape. We'll work on it together. Muscles don't have memory but they can make a come back

Lynock 10-28-2001 05:39 PM

WOW...feels like forever since I've been on. Lets see..
Weigh in Wednesday...2.6 pounds down...finally out of the slump...haven't lost more than .5 pounds in over 6 weeks...not complaining...just "feels" better to loose at least a pound..I'm much happier when I do!!! The extra walking, has helped!!
Welcome Jess!!! I started walking in March...couldn't walk more than 10-15 minutes the first week, (I was 277 at the time) by the third week, with walking every morning..I as up to 45 minutes. Now....endless. This morning, cause of the extra time I had. My body woke me up when the clock said 5:30am!!! (It thought it was 6:30) Dontcha just love the time change!!, outside by six, walked until 8am!! I worked out, that I did almost 6 miles!!, I'm not walking tonight!!
JoanneD, My mum has arthritis in her hands...she's done it all too, but she loves to knit. (she'll be 62 in January) Tried all kinds of meds, upset her stomach..now she just uses a cream...joint something....doesn't take the pain away completly...but she's hoping moving to Florida will help...the cold really got to her in the winter...Today it was 38 degrees when I walked this morning. Gloves and earmuffs weather...but the walking is brisk...makes for a much better walk!!
Tazz, sorry to hear about your treadmill...but also glad for ya!!!
I've been walking on mine...but it's still harder than regular walking...I can do about .5 miles still...before my heart starts pounding!!!
Good Walking All

Joanne D 10-28-2001 07:24 PM

Hey There

Welcome Jess-- Muscles do come back... Start slow and work up your time and distance weekly. or daily occording to how much you can take. I am walking 5 miles a day now... I do 2.5 in the morning and the same or more in the evening. It depends on the route I take.I was only doing 3 miles a day. But I want to lose another 9 lbs and my body is so used to walking that the only thing ,I think, I can do is increase my walking. You can do this! Get on a good healthy eating plan.. W/W is good.. Before you know it you will be getting new clothes.
Taz- My son just bought a Nordic tract. It is soooo nice. I wish I had one!! I don't like to take meds so I am not unhappy about cuting them out.. They make you gain weight too.
Lynock, I live in Florida and have all my life.. I do crotching, quilting . sew my own clothes and many kinds of handwork. I have osteo arthritis in about every joint. Thank God it has not limited the things I love to do. I won't let it limit me. That is the main reason I walk every day and now I feel guilty when I can't. I guess I am addicted to it. I will be 69 in March.
Bye you all.. Keep walking and getting healthy...Joanne:wave:

Tazmani77 11-01-2001 09:42 AM

Good morning everyone,

I'm sorry guys if I haven't been posting lately. It is only because I'm lazy and posting to too many borads and other threads. I like this thread and I promise to do better from now on.

Holloween is over and I haven't had one piece of candy. I'm way too happy about that.

Joanne: Sorry to hear about your knee pain. I pray it doesn't get to the point of surgery. Try not to stress it and stay off it as much as possible. Are you taking something for the pain? A speedy recovery to you dear. You're in my prayers.

Lynock: CONGRADTULATIONS ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS!!!! WTG!!!!!

A  To you too Liz and Vivica

Jess: I hope you stick around a while. You can only do yourself goods by getting all the support you can get. I hope things are going well for you.

walking it off

Hi everyone:

Well, I fit in 4 walks during my first week. Not bad, I wanted to do 5, but it just didn't work out. Diet worked out pretty well too. even over Halloween! Really have to do that stretching, though. The very front of my lower legs, running from just below the knee to the foot. . .big owie if I don't stretch. It's always been a tender spot.

Thanks for all your encouragement and advice. How I wish I could just fast-track myself back to my old fitness level, but it ain't going to happen overnight.

Something I've discovered -- there's more enjoyment (for me) in walking around our neighbourhood than in mall walking or working on the Gazelle. However, am hoping to be sufficiently motivated by the time bad weather comes that I'll manage to do those things if I can't walk outside.

I've never used a motivation tape while walking, only music. Anyone have ones they like? Just curious.

Talk to ya next week -

jess

Joanne D 11-03-2001 08:26 AM

Hey

Lynock- Good for you and your weight loss. :D It is still in the 80s here. I have all my windows open. I would turn on the air but I guess my husband would have a fit. He said if it gets hot later today we will turn it on. I will wait till he goes outside!
Liz - 4 waves for pounds lost.. That is good. Keep up the good work and try to walk when you can.
Taz- I didn't walk yesterday.. My leg is starting to slip out at the knee and is not so easy to get back in place. My right knee did that before I had surgery a few years ago. I still hope to escape on this one. I have lost a lot of weight since then and as I didn't have a lot of pain hoped it would not get worse. I see my Dr. next week. I'll deal with it whatever it is.
Hello Michaele and Vivica..
You All have a Good Weekend..Joanne:wave:
