Hi, can I join you? I'm building up to a 5km race in July and can now manage to last the distance on the treadmill without resorting to walking. I'm not looking forward to doing it round the park with real hills though!

SJ :high: way to go on the Bar!!! We're proud of you, have fun today!!

Welcome YP1  Congrats on your 5k on the treadmill ! But try going outside for a few runs before race day, it's so much more fun although a bit more difficult at first, but only at first, then once you get used to it, you'll be calling the :tread: the 'dreadmill' like I do!

Week 2 of DCFit - 4 miles in 54:09 and the best part ... home by 9am.

I am not going to break any records - I just want to have the stamina and endurance to finish under 6 hours. I really think I can get there. Of course, this still all hinges on what the GP says Wed.

Amino-vital was there with samples after. Does anyone have an opinion?

Thanks

Ilene - I know I need to start running outside more! I did go for a run on Thursday night though to and round the local park, so I'm getting there. I like the treadmill at the moment as I get used to pacing myself and working out how far 5km feels like! I'm hoping to run outside more during summer, so fingers crossed for some nice evenings.

Welcome slimmingsi and YP1!

Congratulations SJ on passing the bar! Enjoy your celebration.

Ilene: I think one of those signs you're becoming a runner is being able to say (or type) the work "fartlek" without giggling insanely. (OK, so it still makes me smile.)

I'm currently trying to fit in a fourth running day into my week. It's difficult on weekdays with dh's work schedule, so this weekend I thought I'd divide the run I've been doing on Sunday in two (20-22k for the last few weeks), and try a short, easy run Saturday am, followed by my usual long, slow run Sunday am. The Saturday part went fine this am (5.5k--planned 5, but slightly underestimated how far from home I was on a new route) and hopefully tomorrow's 14-16k will go well too. If this works, I'll start upping the Sunday distance in a few weeks. My knees haven't been getting sore from running in a while and I don't want that to start again.

16km this morning, including a killer hill. So far so good. I took a new route following a bike path through vieux port and along the St. Laurence, then up (killer hill) through the Plains and headed back home.

The other day while at the park with the kids, I learned that pushing the double stroller around constantly is actually a decent arm workout. I managed to go across the monkey bars twice. No way could I have done that last year at this time. I tried last summer and could only go one or two bars before I had to let go. I couldn't do a chin up on them though.

OnlyMe -- It must be nice to run in Quebec City so very scenic!! My goodgracious there ARE some KILLER hills there... Pushing kids around in a stroller and carrying them everywhere definitely is a great upper body workout...

YP1 -- If you are doing a lot of treadmill runs I suggest you put your incline to 2% to simulate being outside then the transition isn't as difficult...

Only 8.5k this morning for me, I was on the 'dreadmill' so I can only last an hour on there before I die of boredom even with music!!

Hi, I did some incline stuff on the treadmill today and it wasn't as bad as I thought. It was the Leeds half marathon today, and as I was going to the gym and seeing everyone getting ready I got really inspired to try to be on that start line next year. Realistically is that going to be possible - going from 5km to a half marathon in a year? I'm sure it should be, but I think I'd like to lose the belly first or on the way!
