Plateau?

I've changed my entire lifestyle over the last 5 weeks-- I have restricted to 1400 calories or less and I workout 4-5 days a week for 30-45mins a day. I started at 249 and last Saturday I was down to 242.5 and so excited.

Today at the gym, I weighed 244.5. Nothing unusual about this week except a Valentine's lunch out and a piece of cake yesterday. In the gym, I typically spend 20mins on the elliptical and 20 mins of weights or another 10 of biking/walking.

What would be the reason for this plateau/sudden weight gain? I'm very frustrated by this, as I know I am working hard and I feel like I should be seeing more results.

Anyone have any advice? Am I working out too much and eating too little? Or, should I be doing more t the gym?

Two possibilities come to mind... one is that it could be that time of the month... if so the 2 lbs will go away afterward. OR you could have made a mistake when calculating your calories. If you journal, you could double check to see if you either under estimated the calories or portions etc etc.

Don't feel bad. The way I look at it is every week is an experiment. If I lose weight that's great, if not try something different. You could try to do your cardio for more like 25-30 mins and do weights after that... fat burning usually kicks in after 20 min of cardo... so any time after 20 min is prime fat burning time.

Good luck!

I would think that it was water weight gain or that you are building muscle which is heavier than fat. Either way is good if that what it is. Water weight gain goes away and muscle is good so you can have a sleek, trim body. ;)

Did you use the same scale when you weighed yourself? My scale at home is about 2 pounds different than the one at my parents' house.

I agree on the water weight too... or maybe your body is gearing up for TOM. It could be lots of things. You are living a healthier lifestyle now so don't let a number rule how you feel about yourself. Just keep at it, and you will lose those mystical 2 pounds.
