Hi, Guys! Great new thread! We are movin, movin, movin!!!

Off to the gym tonite...I'm also going to try to get out to the track tomorrow morning. I have take my poor Winston in to get his balls chopped off...heh heh...I'm sure he'll act better. He's been pissing all over the place and driving me and my Babycakes crazy!

Emmy, you must really be doing great! I'm so happy for you! Now, when you feel discouraged, you can just look at your old shorts and see how far you've come! You know, my TOM hasn't been that bad in a while! I hope I don't get one like that...I tend to want just chocolate and sweet things..it will be hard to handle, but I know we can do it! God wouldn't have given us the "gift" if he didn't think we could handle it!

Anne, you have been doing really great on your workouts! How did you suddenly get inspired, and where can I get some? Congratulations on your loss! Maybe a loss on Thursday will get me more motivated!

womaninlove, Judy, debbie, denise, nona, all of you...you must be out moving your bodies!!!! Good for you!

BTW, Debbie, a friend of mine is a walker like you and walks all day at work. She was saying that she thought a pedometer would be a good idea be cause she's really interested in how many steps she takes in a day. I am thinking about getting one for her. Do you have an effective yet inexpensive suggestion? She may not like it after all, and never use it again!

Okay, I'm going to finish up here at work and head out to the gym. Talk to you all soon!!

PS- one more final left!!!

Girlie!

I wish I knew! I think I have been reading too many fitness magazines and I really want to work my darndest to look good. To be guite honest I was down early because of my two week straight of gains and tonight I had a really good loss. I feel so much better. All I can say is we all need to keep each other going. When we are feeling down post it and maybe it can be worked out. If you are feeling happy and energetic post it. It will inspire the ones that are down. We can do this!

JudyK 05-08-2001 11:30 PM

Yes, We Can Do It!

 I have a pedometer called the Sportbrain...it was expensive though...$99 on Amazon.com. It has a port that plugs into a telephone line and it transfers all of your info into your own website. It tells how far you walk, how fast, number of steps, calories burned and all kinds of neat information....:D:I just love it and it really does motivate me to get all my steps in every day. Those fitness mags really makes you want to look better. My problem is loose skin. Because of my age (62) my skin doesn't have the elasticity that some of you younger ones have  Time for bed. Didn't get that walk in today so I must do more tomorrow :) Have a good one all.....

Girlie 05-09-2001 01:51 AM

Whew

I did a little workout tonite. I walked/jogged on the treadmill for 15 minutes then did 35 minutes on the elliptical, then walked around the track as a cool down.

I only used 20 points today (out of 29) so I was starving when I got home, so I made a FF turkey hot dog for 2pts. Mmm it was good. Only about 100 cals though...I feel bad because I try to never eat after I work out at night.

But that hot dog was sure good!

Oh well. Judy, thank you for telling me about your high tech gadget! Sounds too complicated for me!

Anne, well you keep up with that motivation! I'm trying...

Ok, here's a general question for you ladies. I am noticing that my heels are getting calloused. IT always happens when I start wearing my summer shoes, my EZ Spirit leather slides. They are comfy, but for some reason my heels always start to look like crap with them on, maybe from being exposed. Any suggestions on how to get rid of it? A pumice stone maybe?

Thanks for your help!

I'm sure we'll hear from the others soon. I'm off to bed!

Girlie

Hello!

Hi Everyone!! Well I exercised this morning!! Felt pretty good until I went to the grocery and gave in to a few of my cravings!! Last month I breezed right through my TOM but this month the cravings are unreal!! Maybe I am not taking in enough fat throughout the month or something. I am so hoping to get control of my cravings before I do too much damage to all my hard work. I WILL get back on track NOW!!

I hope everyone is having a great day today. My son is home sick today ( well, so he said he was) He was just up dancing to cartoons!! Only 12 school days left til summer break anyway.

Have a great day. Take care!!

deb2593 05-09-2001 01:20 PM

Hello!!

I didn't get to do my exercise yesterday. I had to go speak to my neighbor. I am going to be filling in for him monitoring the fitness center at our apartment complex while he is away on vacation in July. After that I came up & started putting away laundry. By the time all was said & done it was 9pm. I can't do my exercise that late because my vcr is in my bedroom & people live downstairs. Oh well! Today I will be doing the tape. Tomorrow is weigh in. Let's hope it's a good one considering TOM is next week. UGH!

Hope everyone has a great day!

JudyK 05-09-2001 06:47 PM

Hi everyone....~Girlie~ The SportBrain isn't hard to use at all..It really is a very neat tool! :D: I don't think you are eating enough to be exercising so much...remember that your body needs fuel to do all that and you should always eat at least your low end of your points...(don't mean to lecture you) just info....Remember your metabolism slows if you do not eat enough..I know I have tried that before and it just didn't work and then I got too hungry and overdid it! I haven't done my exercise yet today but I am about to walk and walk and walk  ~Debbie~ Good Luck at Weigh In tomorrow...~Anne & Emmy~ You are just doing great! Keep up the good work! We are eating SubWay tonight so I don't have to cook :D: Those SubWays do have their advantages  Off for my walk...Have a great evening all....

JudyK 05-09-2001 06:56 PM

Question for Debbie?

~Debbie~ How do you put your quote in bold letters and how do you use bold letters in the body of your reply? I am still learning how to use some of this stuff  Thanks.

deb2593 05-09-2001 07:28 PM

Judy to bold I put the the letter "b" in brackets [] at the beginning of what I want bolded & I put "/b" in brackets at the end of what I want bolded without the quotations.

JudyK 05-09-2001 08:50 PM

:D Thanks Debbie, it worked...and good luck tomorrow! I just got back from a 5.5 mile walk and it felt good. :)

deb2593 05-09-2001 09:01 PM

Woohoo!! Judy you are doing great!! I just did my 3 mile tape with my 2 lb weighted gloves. I really felt the difference between the 1 lb & 2 lb weighted gloves. I have walked 6.38 miles so far today including my tape. Whew! I feel good too :) Thanks for the well wishes for weigh in. I'll update tomorrow morning to let you all know how I did. Even if I don't lose I feel good because I did my tape 4x this week plus I got in some good walking in addition to my tapes.

Hope everyone is well....

TTYL...

Girlie 05-09-2001 09:06 PM

Ha

Let's see if this works

Just playing around..I don't know how to do all the fancy stuff either, Judy!

Judy, you know, I was thinking that. Normally, I go right to the top of my pts...then for some reason the last few days I have been stopping around 22-24. But I feel like I've eaten a lot! My big thing is that I hardly eat anything for breakfast, so I make myself have something...then lunch is something quick, then during the evenings at work I munch and have a decent dinner...so I eat most of my pts during the afternoon and evenings and feel full.

This is what I ate today

Breakfast: 1 cup of Sun Soy milk - 1

Lunch:
2 FF turkey dogs on lite buns - 4
Pirate's Booty - 2
Snackwell's Cookies - 4

Then, for dinner/snacks today:
LF ham on lite wheat - 2
Pirate's Booty - 2
Bowl of veggies w/2 FF turkey dogs cut up - 2
Mc Salad Shaker - 3
Fruit cup - 2
Crackers - 2

That makes 24. I think my low is 25 or maybe 24.

I just feel like I ate too much! And you're right though...I need to eat when I exercise, even though it seem like I'm conflicting myself. See, and I plan to work out again tonite and I did this morning too...I guess I'm paranoid about weigh-in tomorrow and I hardly exercised this week.

Today at work I went to some pool training...with a client product, so I was on my knees (and on my tummy at times!) installing these pool cleaners! I guess I maybe burned some good calories doing that...maybe I won't go to the gym tonite. I have been trying so hard to get under 200 pounds...I'm really focusing on that right now.

Judy and Debbie, you have been doing really great with your exercising. Debbie, a day missed is no biggie..it's when one day turns into a week like me! Ha! but I'm back on track!

Anne, how are you feeling? I hope that the bad bug has finally left you! You have been doing a wonderful job!

Talk to you all soon....after the dreaded weigh in.....

JudyK 05-09-2001 09:48 PM

Hey Girlie ~ What is that Pirates Booty? I think I saw Rosie O'Donnell talking about it but I have never seen it in my area....Looks like you are doing alright with your points. I always need more for breakfast because I am hungry when I get up in the morn...I have Kashi cereal w/skim milk and an orange. The cereal is really high in fiber and good for me in lots of ways.. and fills me up! I know some people just don't like breakfast and I didn't used to, but I really need it now and especially when I walk or go to the gym in the morning. Good Luck with the weigh in tomorrow! :) My grandson was going to Weight Watchers (he will be 18 Saturday) but he has kind of dropped out over the winter....I must get him motivated now that I am home. It is so hard for guys to go and especially teenagers. I feel sorry for him but he is so obese and I worry about the long term health aspects of it. Later all...

Girlie 05-09-2001 10:05 PM

Booty

Ha..Judy, have you ever seen in the stores the "corn pops" type snack, puffs of corn that have been baked or fried and they taste like cheese puffs or buttery puffs..that's what Pirate's Booty is. Just a low fat version. I love cheese puffs, and with PB, you get a good helping - 1/4 of the bag for 2pts. I separate the bag into 4 servings, usually fills up one sandwich bag for a serving. Very handy. My local grocery store sells it for $1.89 each, so I bought 5 bags! I now take it to movies with me instead of popcorn.
That brand also makes something called Power Puffs, these are shaped like conventional cheese puffs, but are made with ginseng and bee pollen and taste sweet. Those are also 2pts for 1/4 bag.

Wow for you grandson...I can only imagine how hard it would be growing up obese. It's hard enough just trying to find acceptance in high school anyway!

I like Kashi too...I got the GoLean and have that with bits of dried apple and soy milk if I want (and have time for) a hearty breakfast!

Talk to you tomorrow!!!!

Girlie

deb2593 05-10-2001 08:07 AM

Good Morning:)

Well, weighed in today & I lost 0.5 lb...Woohoo! I am so happy because this is the week before TOM & I usually show a gain. I also took my measurements & lost 1" in my waist & 1" in my hips since April 2nd. I am happy with that. Today will be the 2 mile walk tape. Gotta keep doing those tapes :)

Girlie, let us know how weigh in goes...good luck :)

Hope everyone has a great day!!

FOOT FREEZE
If your feet get numb during cardio workouts, tight shoelaces or holding the
same position too long on an elliptical trainer or bike may be causing your feet
to fall asleep. Shift your feet frequently, wiggle your toes or alternate
machines to keep blood circulating.

ARE YOU AN EXERCISE ADDICT?
Some 10% of all amateur exercisers become addicted to exercise, notes Steven W.
Edwards, PhD, professor of applied health and educational psychology at Oklahoma
State University (Tulsa). You may be a rabid gym rat if you:

- Ignore pain. Continuing to train with a serious physical problem caused,
aggravated or prolonged by exercise is bad news. Take a break when an injury
flares up, and if it recurs, see a specialist.
- Feel invincible. Just because your intense training hasn’t gotten you into
trouble yet doesn’t mean it won’t a few days, weeks or months down the road. To
avoid flirting with danger, use good form, stretch, eat right to fuel your
training and get adequate rest.
- Shut out the rest of your life. Is exercise becoming more important than
everything else, including family, friends, even work? If you start to view
these as mere obstacles to working out, step back and re-examine your
priorities.
- Go through withdrawal. Having to skip a workout can cause an addict to suffer
symptoms that include lack of appetite, sleeplessness, headaches, tension and
overall irritability - not to mention intense feelings of guilt and anxiety.

THESE WEIGHTS ARE MADE FOR WALKING
To make walking a more challenging workout, some people carry weights. This will
provide some cardiovascular benefit - it helps burn more calories and increases
your oxygen consumption and heart rate - but does so safely only if you:

- Use weights that are designed for walking.
- Begin with 1-pound weights and increase gradually up to 3 pounds.
- Swing your arms to chest level in a controlled manner.
- Monitor your heart rate and compare it to your rate without weights. If your
rate doesn’t increase, you aren’t getting any additional aerobic benefit.
- As an alternative to hand weights, consider wearing a backpack with the
desired amount of weight or a weighted vest.
- Never use ankle weights. They can easily lead to improper body mechanics.

YOU’VE GOT BREAKFAST BEAT
You start each day with a high fiber cereal, skim milk and berries. It’s great
you have the breakfast habit down but you may be depriving yourself of a wide
array of nutrients. Instead try shaking things up a bit. Here are some quick
easy suggestions for breakfast:

- Nonfat yogurt with fresh fruit and wheat germ
- Whole grain wheat bread with peanut butter or almond butter
- Whole wheat English muffin with cottage cheese and apple butter
- Egg white omelet filled with your favorite veggies

PEC SPECS
Don’t bother monopolizing the flat bench to work your chest. Flat presses are a
favorite for a reason, but it’s difficult to maximally contract the large
pectoral muscle with a single movement in just one plane of motion. In other
words, don’t ignore the incline and decline benches - they’ll help you vary your
angle of attack and involve fibers from all parts of the muscle. Raise head of
the bench slightly to shift the emphasis from the middle portion of the pecs to
the upper region, and lower it for slightly greater stimulation of the lower pec
region. Resist the urge to use heavy weights: Start out light to get the hang of
movements at unfamiliar angles.

JudyK 05-10-2001 04:04 PM

 Good for you Debbie :D I know a lot of people are never satisfied with those tenths of a lb.....but they all add up and I am always happy :) and like you said you probably have a little water retention too....Lucky me, I don't have to deal with that anymore...that comes with old age  but it sure is nice! Thanks for all the info Anne...I don't think I will ever be addicted to exercise....I do it, but I don't love it... It is just something you have to do if you want to lose...later all

Girlie 05-10-2001 05:19 PM

Bummed!!!!

I feel like I'll never get there!!!

I know, I know....I'm just having a down moment here..my friend and I were accountable to each other all week, and she kind of slipped where I pretty much stayed OP...and she lost over 3lbs...and me......

1.2lbs

What a bummer. I know that's okay..but I was expecting more. Oh well. I REALLY want to get below 200...it's been taking so long...I know...I should be patient...at this rate, if I lost 1lb per week, in a year I'll have my goal...geez....wow...I'll just keep trucking along and not complain! One girl at our meeting lost 8 lbs her first week!!! Wow!

I'll be better next week. Thanks for your help!

JudyK 05-10-2001 06:14 PM

~Girlie ~ You are doing great! Just be patient and it will come. When I started, I did not have that big loss my first week, in fact I did not have any big losses at one time....everyone loses differently. I know how hard it is to be patient (been there, done that) We will try to help you...maybe next week will be better for you..good luck

deb2593 05-10-2001 06:16 PM

Girlie don't feel bummed. You did great!! WW says that normal weight loss is 0.5-2 lbs a week. You are well within that range. Everyone loses at a different rate. Just keep doing what you are doing & you will do fine. Think of it this way...that's 1.2 lbs lighter than you were last week. Losing 1 lbs is no easy feat & losing 1.2 is wonderful. I have only lost 2 lbs since December but I am more toned. Just keep up with your exercising, journal & drink your water. I don't know if WW still does the 10% thing but maybe you can set a smaller goal for yourself. Instead of looking at your goal weight set a smaller goal like 10% which would be 20 lbs. It makes it easier when you look at it that way. When I started WW I needed to lose 66 lbs. I never thought I would get there. Now I am 12 lbs away. Sometimes we need to take baby steps to get to the end. There is no rush. This is a lifetime committment to YOURSELF and you will get to your goal no matter how long it takes. Just hang tough and you will do just fine.

Congrats on your wonderful loss...YOU GO GIRL!!

TTYL..

Girlie 05-10-2001 08:33 PM

Awww

Okay, I feel better...

Yeah, I feel a bit better...I mean, I'm SO close to 199! I have decided to change a few things about my program and see how that goes. What a rough first week. I feel good though, so that's good.

Do you guys do Race for the Cure?

Ours is on Saturday. It's really neat. Good exercise, but most of all, all the WOMEN!!! I remember at my first Race for the Cure, I ran the race, and didn't stop once. Ha..it took me quite a while, but next year, I'm running!

Anne,

Thank you for that article. That was a good tip about the elliptical machine!

Judy & Debbie,
I know...I am so bad at patience...I just want to see and feel visual results...but they will come, I know they will! I know I am SO much healthier than I was a month ago. Less than 2 months ago I was 216lbs, so hey..there is an accomplishment! I never want to feel like that again! I was miserable! Half of feeling better is just DOING something about it!

Thanks again!

Girlie

JudyK 05-10-2001 11:02 PM

~Girlie~Glad you are feeling better about this whole thing...I know, we wanted it yesterday! and we put all this on in a month too  One thing I did when I got on that plateau (which seemed like forever) was to cut my carbs....I think that really helped. We have also been eating SubWays 2 or 3 days a week now and I think it is helping me start to lose again! SubWays are good and you don't have to cook! :D My hubby likes them too! We feel like we don't need a big meal every night....sometimes we have a sub and a salad or applesauce....Just an idea....I know WW only says count points but if you eat too many carbs I think it does make a difference in losing and not losing. I would like to do one of those Race for the Cure walks. I don't know if they are going to have one where I live. I may check on that! Have a good evening.

mals1 05-11-2001 10:34 AM

Girlie

Glad you are feeling better. I know what you mean about wanting to get under 200. At one point I was .4 away from it! I was so bummed and upset. Then finally it happend and I lost 3 pounds. Like this week I thought I did terrible felt yucky about weighing in and you never know what to expect because I lost 2.4 pounds. Its like where the heck did that come from? :lol Other weeks you think you did so well and you don't lose as much, not at all or gain. I try to go to the scale with a blank mind. I don't get my hopes up. Just blank thoughts. So if its not a great week then I think oh well do better next week. :)

Well I am going to be getting some outdoor exercise this weekend. We get to plant our vegetable garden. I can't wait. Its a community garden that we have paid for a 20 by 20 plot. I think its going to be hard work, but when the fresh vegies starting coming in I will be in heaven. Yummy! I may have to hit the pool at the YMCA after this outdoor workout. :)

Girlie 05-11-2001 05:42 PM

Smiley

Anne
Thank you for your encouragement! I know it will happen for me too! I remember you were struggling a week or so ago about it, and then all of a sudden you lost. I'm going to really have to work on going to the scale with "blank" mind!!

Judy
Yes, I do believe you are right about the carbs...and that's exactly what I decided to do...I had been counting this bread that I eat as .5/pt ..I'm going to start counting it as 1pt now because it's close to 1pt. Yes, the Race for the Cure is huge..there were
30,000 women there, let alone the lines of men and women standing along the course! It's really neat! Talk about Girl Power! My city, Peoria, I believe, is where the Susan G. Komen foundation is headquartered. Imagine how much $$$ they make from this, all to support breast cancer!

Rose O'Donnell
I watched a bit of Rosie today...you all know she's on WW..she recommended a store in NY that sells ALL fat free foods! I visited their website, www.fatfreefoods.com
It shows the actual store and it's HUGE, and everything in the store is fat free! They have baskets like Chocoholics, sugar free, and calorie free gift baskets! It looks really neat. You can order a brochure on the website! I did!

Talk to you all later!

Girlie

PS: Judy, I had Subway today! I love it! I was actually considering a part time job at one while I'm out of class over the summer, to make some extra cash besides what I make already. I wanted something that would let me interact with people rather than sit at a computer all day like I do now, and something I can stay on my feet for...and this job would give me free/ very discounted food, GOOD, healthy food!

womaninlove 05-11-2001 07:19 PM

Remember me?

Hi everybody!

I am so sorry I've been so bad about posting. I have felt really lousy lately. Major sinus infection and My right shoulder blade is sticking out kind of funny and it is sore. :( I don't know what is going on with my body. I'm still hitting the gym regularly and Wednesday my trainer said I was really looking good! That was nice to hear.

I'm really glad to hear of everyone's successes! Way to go all!!! :D

Judy: so glad you joined us! ;)

Girlie: I'm still pulling for you! You are doing great on your WW!! You are sooo on your way below 200...be gentle with yourself--you will get there! :)

Deb:, Anne, and everyone else: you are doing fabulously!! Keep up the good work!

I'm gonna try the gym tommorrow and lay off of my arms. Hope everyone has a great weekend and Happy Mother's Day to whom it applies!

womaninlove

JudyK 05-11-2001 09:37 PM

 Was able to get in my 5.5 mile walk today before we got a little rain. It has been raining off and on all day today. We really need it. Never thought we would be wanting rain in May. ~Girlie Sounds like you are on the right track. That part time job at SubWay sounds like a winner. We really do like them and they are so filling. I checked out that website and signed up for a catalog. We are going to NY in July, maybe we can check out that store! :D I checked on those Walk Runs and the one in Indianapolis was held in April. None others in this area. Oh well. It was a good idea. Such a great cause. ~ Woman In Love ~ Good to see you back...sorry you have been feeling so lousy...hard to exercise when you are not at the top of your game (or at least it is for me!) Makes you feel good when someone notices your hard work! You hate to waste all that sweat for nothing  I haven't returned to the gym since I got home to Indiana but I plan to next week. I have been enjoying walking since the weather is so nice and a little cooler! :D Later all....

Girlie 05-12-2001 01:43 AM

Good Night

Just saying good night! Boy it's late and I have to get up early...a little too awake from working out. Amazingly, I actually used the treadmill, just for 30 minutes and did a mixture of jogging and walking. It was good for me because it's harder for me to run on a treadmill for 10 minutes than to do the elliptical machine for 45. Not sure why.

One Good Thing
I am able to wear my trusty old blue Adidas pants. Not all the way, but enough to wear at the gym again. I'm looking forward to them getting baggier....

Talk to you soon!

Girlie

deb2593 05-12-2001 08:40 AM

Good Morning Everyone

Judy you are doing so great with the walking. Good for you :) It's funny you said you are going to NY in July, so am I :) It should be fun. It's been awhile.

Girlie, I know you are happy those Adidas pants are fitting. That always gives a big boost. Great job on the exercising and I am glad you are feeling better. It's better to lose it slowly & keep it off than lose it quickly & put it back on plus some. You are doing just great!!!

Womaninlove sorry you haven't been feeling too good. I know that your trainer's compliment really made you feel good. You have been working so hard at it & to get a compliment like that makes you want to keep going :) Keep up the great work!!

Hope everyone else is doing well.

I am good. Yesterday I skipped exercise because I was watching Miss Universe & doing a cross stitch  Today I will get in some good walking because we will be out shopping all day. Hopefully if I am not too whipped I will be able to get my tape in. We will see.

Anyway, I'll try to pop back in later...Hope you all have a great day!

JudyK 05-12-2001 06:27 PM

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

 No exercise today...had to go shopping and grocery shopping and stop and visit my Mother. It did turn out to be a nice day, but we are going out to dinner with my Father-In-Law & Mother-In-Law tonight. They have been on a 2 week trip to Hawaii so we haven't seen them since we have been back. He is 86! Isn't that great! I am having the family for dinner tomorrow. My daughter left on a cruise today, so my grandsons, son & d-i-l, my Mother and Father-In-Law & Mother-In-Law are coming. I always cook low fat & WW and they always like it.....or at least they say they do  As long as you have lots of veggies and low fat desserts most people don't even know the difference...anyhow, they know that is the way I cook. Everyone have a Happy Mother's Day (to the ones it applies to) and have a great day tomorrow! Hoping for a good weigh in this week. I will have to be careful tomorrow. I like that saying "Don't let what you want at the moment, get in the way of what you want most"...later all :)

deb2593 05-12-2001 09:22 PM

Girls, I am exhausted!! We just got back home after 7hrs of shopping. I have walked 8.68 miles so far today. I am whipped. I just wanted to pop in to wish all the Moms a Happy Mother's Day. Enjoy your day with your families. I'll talk to you all tomorrow. I am too tired to type....

See ya!

mals1 05-12-2001 09:22 PM

Ouch!!

We didn't make it to the gym but put our garden in instead. Boy do I hurt and we aren't finished yet. How many exercise points do you think I earned today? :lol Well I having a glass of wine. Yum :)

Hope everyone had a good day. To all the Mom's in the group, I hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day tomorrow.

Okay, I'm starving! Who is making dinner? :lol

JudyK 05-13-2001 08:15 PM

 Whew! Mother's Day is over. :D Had the family for dinner and it was a great day, but a lot of work...Oh well, I didn't have much time to think about eating trying to take care of everyone else. Didn't get to walk today so I will get back on track tomorrow. I guess it doesn't hurt to take off once in a while. Got to get at it tomorrow! Have a nice evening all.....
