Yes it is ellipitcal. But its different than the Precor. I have been using it for about a month. Of which I have missed a week due to friends be in town and me having to go out of town. So now I am getting back into a routine. I went tonight and did pretty well. I'm up to 1.32 miles at 20 minutes. A heck of alot better than I was doing on the treadmill.

Girlie 04-12-2001 09:54 PM

Holy Moly!

Where in the world was I for the past half hour! You ladies tore up that last thread!!!

Womaninlove: It's nice to see you! I'm glad you enjoyed your mini-vacation! I'm really anxious about Philadelphia...I've been eating the house down! Pretty soon I'll have eaten the front door and I'll have to use my body to block the wind!! Ha..sorry....silly humor! Besides the elliptical, I can't really deal with much other machines..I don't know why..I did decide that I would do my 35min elliptical tonite and try 10-15 minutes on a treadmill. That's really great for legs.

Anne: Wow, we're both basically at the same weight. Are you vertically challenged? I'm 5'4...my goal is 155, what I was when I graduated from high school, a size 12. I can deal with that! It's alittle high sounding, but underneath all this flubb is muscle, and I know I can maintain it. I love the sound of your home elliptical. May I ask where you bought it, and about how much you paid? I've been thinking about it myself....

Everyone else, have a great night! Hope to hear from you soon, Emmy, Debbie and Denise! I didn't miss anyone, did I? Oh my...I don't think so....talk to you ALL soon!

mals1 04-12-2001 09:59 PM

Girlie

I didn't buy it. I use it at the YMCA I belong to.

I am 5'4 also! I am shooting for 125 wwgoal but I really want to get back to 120. We will see about that. I'm not 20 years old anymore!

susanje 04-13-2001 12:28 AM

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the welcomes! I'll post more tomorrow.

But to the Noo Yawkers---I am Manhattan born and Bronx raised!!!! You can definitely read my posts with the accent thrown in.......my California friends make fun of me awl da time!

TGIF!!!

Hi everybody!

I went to the gym today! I did my weight training and started on the treadmill for 10 min then...I tried the elliptical!! I was gonna do it for 10 min, then I liked it so much I went for 20! That thing kicked my butt!

I feel whooped. My fingers were actually a little pruny from all the sweat! I'll be back tommorow!

Girlie: You totally crack me up! (tip: couches tasted better with a little peanut butter smeared on them! ha ha! Silly!) You will be FINE! Enjoy your time at home!!!

mals: sounds like you have a good attitude about re-starting...it's hard to start up again after any absence...even a short one, isn't it? Good for you! You'll be flying on that thing in no time!

Susan: How YOU doin'? ;)

Deb, Denise everyone...Happy Friday--enjoy your holiday weekend!!!! (easy on the marshmallow peeps! tee hee!)

Girlie 04-13-2001 10:48 AM

Friday!

Hey y'all! Just a quick note before I go to the eye doctor.

Susan: Hey, another New Yawker! You see, that, Debbie? Maybe you guys know each other...well, there are a LOT of people in the Bronx!!

Womaninlove: Hey, way to go on the elliptical! It's really great, isn't it? I don't get easily bored on it. Tip for you: use good elliptical posture. Stand straight up and use the bars only for stability, not to hold yourself up. I'm sure you're kicking *** on it! I find it easier not to hold on at all. My balance must be decent...I've almost fallen off a couple of times though!

Hey to everyone else!! I'll post later!

Girlie

emmy32 04-13-2001 02:17 PM

Hello

Hello Everybody!! I hope all is well with everyone! I am still on track. Lacking a bit in my water today but I will get it down. I walked outside today to the post office about 4599 steps so that is a good walk. I did the tape three miles yesterday.

I would have been on to post yesterday but I didn't turn my computer on because once I get on here not much house cleaning gets done, so I spent the day cleaning. I scooted my big heavy hutch across the floor with my behind. Boy, was my behind sore today!! Hey does that count as exercise?

Have a great day everyone. Take care

womaninlove 04-14-2001 10:30 AM

Easter weekend!

Looks like everybody is busy enjoying the holiday weekend! Just wanted to wish everyone a great holiday! Enjoy!

Happy Easter Weekend!

Hope everyone is doing well and has beautiful weather. I have to hit the gym this morning and go grocery shopping. I already did 60 crunches on the FitBall. I love this thing. It makes me feel like a little kid. We have a smaller one (20 inches) and it didn't do the job. This one is 26" and is perfect. Have you guys tried one of these things?

susanje 04-14-2001 04:17 PM

Anne,

WHAT is a fit ball???? I want to get some kind of ab thingy for home.

I changed gyms this weekend. Too much nonsense at my old gym. I actually will have 2 gyms for a month but I don't CARE. I also have an elliptical trainer coming to my home one of these days....can't wait!

I have an appt with a fitness trainer in a couple of hours to introduce me to the machines at my new gym. I am doing BFL so I don't need them to come up with a plan but it will be nice to have someone walk me through all the machines.

:)

hope everyone has a nice weekend!
Susan

Girlie 04-14-2001 04:57 PM

Hey!

What a great weekend! Too bad I've hardly done anything! I've got to get some research done for my class now, just wanted to check in. We're doing a 20 mile bike ride this evening and hopefully again tomorrow. I'm feeling sluggish and bloated...the scale went up 2lbs but I'm sure it's just that "time" of the month stuff!

Talk to you all soon...try not to eat too much tomorrow! My big vice is gonna be the sugar cookies I bake tonite to take to the fam...I always want to "sample" my masterpieces!!

Girlie

Take a look at this:

http://www.fitball.com you can do all kinds of exercises on it. I have the 26". I know they also make a 30". They are excellent and kind on your back. Take a look. There are other brands available. Just make sure you get one large enough. I'm 5'4 so this one works great.

mals1 04-14-2001 10:21 PM

Heart Rate Monitor?

Do any of you use a heart rate monitor when exercising? What kind and what do you think of it?

deb2593 04-14-2001 11:27 PM

Hi Everyone!

Just wanted to pop in quick to wish everyone a very Happy Holiday weekend. I have my points all figured out for tomorrow & I'm looking forward to that turkey :) I found a new vice....1 dessert shell (like the angel food cake) 1.5pts, 4 tbsp lite cool whip 1pt, 3/4 cup frozen red raspberries 0pts. I just split the shell in half & layered with cool whip & berries & then did the same with the other half. For 2.5pts it is GOOD!!! I am going to make that as a dessert for tomorrow.

I got my VCR...WOOHOOO! Tomorrow is tape time again :) I did get in 14,000 steps today & a little over 4 miles. Not bad...

Have a good one & enjoy
Debbie

nakeddaze 04-15-2001 09:04 PM

I made a post under the 1st thread..before I saw this one ...please go back and read! Thanks

mals1 04-15-2001 09:16 PM

I caught it!

deb2593 04-15-2001 10:37 PM

Welcome Anne!

This group is great for motivation :) You'll really like it here. I also do the Leslie Sansone tape. I really like her. What tape do you have? I have the 2 mile walk tape & just ordered the Power Walk-3 Miles tape.

I hope everyone had a great Easter. I have to say I did great with my points. I planned well & kept to my points. I wanted to stay on the low range today because the last 2 days I've eaten at my Max range. I want to try to mix it up a little to see if that helps jog the weight loss. I ended up using 5pts for breakfast, 5pts for lunch & 7pts for dinner & a 2.5pt dessert. Hopefully this will be a good week. I didn't do my tape :( because I was just so tired. I was up late because we had some nasty storms roll through here yesterday. I ended up taking a nap with my little one ... I feel much better now :) Tomorrow should be a good day for my tape. My son is off from school and I'll have the time to do it....

Anyway, hope you all enjoyed your day...have a good night...

See ya

Girlie 04-16-2001 08:13 PM

Monday!

Hey guys! Way to go with the thread! It sounds like we all are doing so well!

Debbie: Wow! 14,000 steps! That is SO AWESOME! You'll be getting the weight loss going again! I can't wait until I get on a plateau..I need to lose some weight first! I've made a version of your desert with fresh strawberries, and yes, it's yummy. Except..ha..I used TWO of the cups! Good for you for thinking smart and cutting yours in half! how does your pedometer work? How does it know how many steps you take? I thought you had to press a button or something every step you take....I'm sorry, I'm out of it...oh...hoooooray for the VCR!!!

Lisa:
Welcome! I caught your message in the other thread. It's okay, we all do that stuff! Did you get my PM back? I just wanted to make sure because the site was having some technical difficulties this morning! Anyway, thank you, it was very nice of you to think of me! How's the walking going?

Anne: Hey, sorry, I don't use the monitor. I just take my rate around the middle of my workout to make sure I'm at max level. They have these signs in the gym that I follow that shows my age and at what levels my heart rate should be at during activities. I don't know if I'm doing it right though. Oh, I use something like a fitball at the gym...I have back problems and since I started working out, I haven't been to the chiropractor. I think it was because of the extra weight I had, so after I lost the weight that I have, my back doesn't feel bad. So anyway, I stretch my back on the ball...I probably look silly, but I feel weightless lying on it, and I kind of roll the ball forward and backward to stretch out my back and parts of my shoulders after a workout...feels goooood.....

Emmy: I've been reading your posts talking about how you walk everywhere...so Sunday morning I rode my bike to my brother's apartment....but.....I made him drive me home because it was rainy! Ha! Now my bike is at his place!

Susan: How was your visit to the gym? Did you find a machine that you liked a lot?

Womaninlove: we're waitin' for ya whenever you're ready!

Hope I didn't miss anything! Imagine if we were all in a room together...we'd be a bunch of chattin fools!

deb2593 04-16-2001 08:33 PM

Hey Girlie Girl!! Good to "see" you again :) Isn't that dessert good?? Girl, I work around things I like & figure out ways to cut the points so I get what I like to eat but don't waste a lot of points on any one thing. I did do my tape today. I really missed it. I feel really good right about now :) As far as the pedometer, I have the 1-2-3 pedometer. I know some people say it's not that accurate but mine does come within the 5 step margin it gives. I had to input my stride (you have to measure the distance you take in 10 steps), I also had to input my weight to the nearest 10 lbs. As I walk it registers how many steps I have taken. There have been 2 days this week that I have not gotten in my 10,000 steps but the other days I have gotten more than the 10,000. When I do the tape I always do really good because with the tape alone I get in about 4,000 steps or so plus any other walking I do throughout the day. It's good because if I see I don't have many steps I make sure I move around more to get them in. I'm here patiently waiting for my 3 mile power walk tape. Emmy, have you had a chance to do it? How is it?

Womaninlove, where are you??? Update whenever you get a chance.

I hope everyone else is having a great day!!

See ya
Debbie

Girlie 04-16-2001 08:42 PM

Hey!

I'm glad I'm not here alone!

Debbie, how does the pedometer know you're walking? I know I'm an idiot!!! It's just something I've never thought about before! Do you hook something up to you? Does it sense motion? That must be really neat to have it say 0 when you wake up and then 10,000 when you go to bed! It reminds me of the elliptical machine's counter. I only do between 5000-6000 when I do 30mins of it.

Oh, yeah, make sure you let me know when you find more little treats like that! I like to do that too! I'm not on WW, but I used to be, and usually keep pts in mind when I'm eating (I'm just too wussy to write it down!). If you like chocolate...heh heh..the forbidden C word! Anyway, if you look in the Kosher section, there are these peppermint patties that are BETTER than York and are a pt for two. There are only like 10 in a package, but they are SO yummy...the brand is Manschewitz...something like that!

Also in the Kosher section are those Kedem brand tea biscuits....6 for a point..the whole package of 30 is 5 points! They taste like cookies!

Anyway, gotta finish some reports before I go home. I'm doing a presentation tomorrow in class and I'm nervous...gonna work some sweat tonite to get psyched up!

Girlie

Sorry I've been away so long!

Hi everybody! I'm back! I am sooooo tired though! This holiday weekend has me beat! Our computer got a virus yesterday and with it being Easter, of course we were running around to relatives houses and had no time to fix the problem. We had someone over for dinner tonight, so right after I got home from work I was cleaning like crazy, etc.

I did make it to the gym this morning and did the elliptical like a wild woman, but my knee started to swell up and got painful so I only did my strangth training arms and thighs and had to quit. It feels better now, so we'll see about tommorow!

I did ok with my eating I guess. I have lost a total of 10 lbs though!!! I'm at 180! I'm dying to break back into the 170's...

It sounds like you all are doing fabulous!!! I was so excited to finally get back on the board and see everyone feeling so positive!! Welcome to our newbies!! I will be posting as much as I can...thanks for missing me & letting me know I'm thought of when I'm away...I certainly think about you guys even when I'm not logged on!

Have a great night everyone!

Yay! 10lbs is great! I'm really glad for you! All of your work has really paid off! As soon as I get back from PA, I'm going to start again. I just want to maintain what I've got now...SOMEday I'll be back down there with you! The next 10lbs will fall off just like the first 10lbs! I'm sure your Sweetie is so happy for you!

Heck, maybe I'll lose while I'm in PA...I'll be working out while I'm there too.

At least I've seen some difference in my clothes. My overalls are looser than they used to be. And a sad note: I wear these three stacked rings on my ring finger...they are falling off now! I bought them a little too big back in December...the top ring and the bottom ring are size 8 and the middle is size 9. I really liked them so I got them thought they were too big, and I figured the 8's would hold the 9 on, but now I can't exercise without clenching my fist or they'll fall off. My finger is really a size 7. I guess it's back to my other rings! My Luvvy went to basic training in Texas a couple of years ago, and he had a jade/silver ring made for me while he was there, and he brought it back and it's a size 7...now I can wear it again! I was ashamed to admit that it didn't fit anymore!

Gotta do work now, finally! Talk to you all soon! Great to hear from you Womaninlove!

Happy Monday !!

I just got home from walking at the track with fellow teachers ....two miles tonight ..I am just getting started back.

I am so glad to see everyone walking and doing Leslie Sansone. I have one of her older tapes, and one mile kills me. She really works you.

I am also on Weight Watchers, but am sad to say I haven't been in about a month, so I am hoping I can ease back into that too.

EVERYONE GET WALKING AND EXERCISING AND DON'T FORGET YOUR WATER!!!!

di4chat2 04-16-2001 10:41 PM

hello

Hi all,
Girlie invited me to come here. It sounds like you all are avid exercisers. I work out with step aerobics 3 times a week for an hour and I also try to ride my cardio glide in between. I am going to start walking soon, what are these walking tapes I am seeing in these posts? I would love to have a tape for walking. I have a pedometer that I have used in the past.. Will have to dust it off and use it next time I walk. LOL
Bye the way I am 37 a married sahm and have two girls. I am trying to lose about 30-40 pounds just watching my fat and cals and exercising. I think if I can do it on my own I feel like I can keep it off better. Only lost 9 pounds in the last 6 weeks. Looking to lose at least 9 more by Memorial day. I don't belong to a gym but am thinking of maybe joining one someday. I do not know alot about the machines they use there, but would love to learn. Well I am glad to have joined here and hope to chat with you all soon.
Diana :)

walking tapes

They are videos by leslie sansone....she has an informercial out now ...late at night ...i believe the girl from general hospital is in the informercial with her....the tapes are a very good all around work out.....

deb2593 04-17-2001 09:32 AM

Good Morning:)

womaninlove-- 10 lbs down...WOOOHOOO! You go girl!!! Keep it up & you will be slim & trim in no time....

Girlie-- I wear the pedometer on the waist band of my pants so evertime I move it registers a step. It's cool...

Diana-- Welcome!! :) What cardioglide machine do you have? I have the Weslo cardioglide. I haven't really been using it because I kind of got bored. I do the Leslie Sansone 2 mile walk tape instead. It's way easier on my knees :) You can check out her tapes on http://www.walkaerobics.com, http://www.amazon.com, http://www.bn.com, http://www.collagevideo.com and you can read reviews at http://www.videofitness.com Losing 9 lbs in 6wks is great!! That's a 1.5lbs a week. A healthy rate of weight loss is 0.5 lb -2lbs a week so you are right on target. Keep up the great work!! :)

Susan-- I missed your post about you being a fellow New Yorker. It's funny because I think I still have a little of my accent though not as pronounced as it used to be. My Aunt tells me I sound like a southerner. I don't think I do. I got reprogrammed when I lived in Florida. I was a customer service rep & they had to teach me how to talk & finish my words  I was actually born in Puerto Rico but raised in Brooklyn from the time I was 1 mo old. We are planning on going back to NY this summer. I can't wait to see everyone out there as it's been almost 6yrs since I've been back.

Lisa, Emmy-- you are doing great with the exercise. Keep up the great work!!!

Denise-- hopefully your schedule is getting back to normal & you'll be able to join us over here soon :)

I was finally able to get my butt moving & do my 2mile tape last night. I was going to do it a 2nd time but I didn't want to overdo it & then have to skip today. It felt great to get moving again :) By the time I went to bed last night I had clocked 16,000 steps & 5 miles..WOOHOO! Guess folding & putting away laundry from room to room helps add some steps on that ole pedometer..

Hope you all have a great day!!!

See ya!
Debbie

emmy32 04-17-2001 10:26 AM

Hello!!

Hi everyone!! Sounds like everyone is doing well.

I received my 3 mile tape yesterday and I did the whole workout. Leslie really works on the upper body in this one. I think I will alternate it with my other 3 mile tape and see how it goes. I have lost 9 pounds so far and I am feeling healthier everyday. I have a long way to go but I will succeed!!

Deb, I think you will like the 3 mile power walk. She uses weighted gloves in it but you can use any kind of weights with it.

I will be checking in later to see how everyone is doing.
Have a great day everyone.

mals1 04-17-2001 10:32 AM

Checking In

I am alive, but barely. I have a wonderful cold that my husband gave me. Aren't they so sweet? :) Haven't been to the gym since Saturday. If I go back to work tomorrow I will go to the gym. I hate being sick. :(

susanje 04-17-2001 10:43 AM

ooooooooooh I hate being sick. It screws up EVERYTHING!!!!

I went to my new gym last night and worked out on the cross trainer and the recumbent bike. What a workout!
My elliptical hasn't come yet but I'm getting good workouts at the gym now.

Hope everyone is doing well!
Susan

deb2593 04-17-2001 10:46 AM

Hi Emmy! Sounds like the 3 mile power walk is exactly what I was looking for. I was looking for a tape that was longer than mine and that worked the arms. Cool. Is it easy to do with regular weights versus the gloves? I have 2, 3, & 5 lb weights. I would probably start with the 2 lb weights because my arms are pretty weak at this point. You are doing great!

Anne, I'm sorry to hear you are sick  I hope you feel better real soon. Husbands are infamous for sharing their germs. My husband always passes them on to me & then miraculously recovers. UGH! Get better soon :)

TTYL

Quick Check in!

Diana:
I'm really glad that you joined us! I hope you like it! Enjoy, and way to go with your walking! You can definitely lose weight on your own program! Stay in touch with us and stay motivated!

Debbie: Weird, about the pedometer thing, but really cool. That really is a good way to measure, and see how you do from day to day!

Wow...we have so many more people on the thread now! It's hard to keep track anymore! I'll get to it though! I thought about posting one thread with everyone's names on it or something, just so we all can see who we have...I might do it tonite.

I'll write more later. I didn't do anything but use dumbells last night.... :( I'm gonna be so busy today and tomorrow packing and cleaning the house to get ready for my vacation! Whoo hooo!

Girlie

nakeddaze 04-17-2001 09:03 PM

keep it up !!!

everyone is doing a great job!!! I only got in one mile tonight at the track because the lights werent on =(

womaninlove 04-17-2001 09:20 PM

we already need a new thread! WOW!!

Hi guys! Looks like we need a new thread started! Yippee!!!

See you at #3...I'll post more there!

PS) Please don't be shy! If you feel we need a new thread started due to lots of great posts, please feel free to do so! This thread belongs to everyone that helps keep it going with positive energy! :)
