Yoga-licious!

  • Is anyone out there doing yoga? Doesn't matter what kind: ashtanga, iyengar, bikram, power, hatha, kundalini, or a combination. Let's talk about poses here.

I take a yoga once a week. It's taught by the most flexible 55-year old woman I've ever seen. She holds the class in her rec room, so it's very small (5 people max). We get lots of personal attention.

She sometimes leads us in a power workout that totally kicks butt; other times she concentrates on the stretching and breathing. Every class ends with deep relaxation/guided visualization.

I've been taking the class for a little over a year and grown far more flexible and strong.

How about you? What's your favorite pose? Least favorite?
  • i've seriously thought about yoga a few times but with the extra padding i'm equipped with...not so sure it's feasible right now. as an alternative to those post workout stretches the instructor asks of me; i've taken up a one or two of the easier poses. such as...sukasana or the hero pose. feels great on the back and thighs. (they can be done in the comfort of my bedroom and i can incorporate the breathing techniques without feeling like a doof. cause i'm facing it, once i start exerting...)
  • I had been doing yoga for about eight months even before I started my 100-pound weight-loss journey. Yoga surely isn't exclusively a thin-person's domain. Indeed, it is one of the few exercises that can be readily adjusted for the overweight, and, along with walking, was my primary source of exercise for the first four or five months of my weight-loss.
