Today I hope to start the 30 Day Shred. I know it will be hard but I need to begin immediately. I told myself I would never see 140+ on the scale again and here I am, reaching out for 150.
I skipped coffee this morning and am carrying a water bottle. I've had yogurt and after work will go buy eggs, turkey, and veggies. I'm worried because I'm tired, for over a week I was sick (another motivation for increasing my health) and could only sleep during the day; I'm still sleeping backwards. But I know I will feel better about myself for doing it and that exercise could wake me up when I get home.
I had excellent results with 30DS and I did several cycles of it, although it's been a while since I did it. I kind of went off Jillian and lost my DVD but I recently repurchased it and want to get my Michelle O arms in gear with it. Even more than weight loss with this DVD, I always experienced really good inch loss.

Hello,
I was diagnosed with hypothyroid just over two years ago. Before then, I worked out regularly for about 25 years. I was ready to start exercising again and bought Jillian's 30-day shred. That was back in February. What I realized is that for me (I'm 55), I needed to start gradually. I did that workout for one week and was completely exhausted. I got so discouraged because I couldn't keep up that I just quit. I'm so out of shape. If I had been working out regularly like I used to I'm sure I would have loved it. But because of my thyroid, I have to start with mild things like walking and yoga.
My commitment to myself is: Monday - Friday workouts. Kundalini Yoga 2 days (one of the yoga DVD's is called "Fat Free" and focuses on weight loss), Leslie Sansone's "Walk Fitness" DVD 1 day, then another 2 days of the yoga. So far so good. Later when I get back in shape I will add more difficult workouts again. My muscles are sore and I feel great!
If you're young and don't have any other health issues, I'd say do the 30-day shred and even modify it a little in the beginning it it's too strenuous. As long as you don't burn yourself out like I did!
I'm also learning to be patient and not to expect everything to happen instantly. I have always wanted immediate results. Now I know I have to take it slow and steady, like the turtle right? I will eventually get there and it will probably become a lifestyle that lasts, rather than a quick to lose scheme that usually doesn't last!
AshliRose: You wouldn't believe in 2009 when i first started, my first 2 DVDs were Leslie Sansone's 5-mile Fat-burning walk AND Ravi and Ana's Fat-Free Kundalini Yoga video which is the one i think you're talking about. After working with those two for a couple of months, I started 30 day shred and when i finished that, i got into running and started the C25k program. You're definitely on the right track. Leslie is great for building fitness and endurance and Ravi and Ana's fat free video is good for toning up!

Ha, ha! That's interesting. It's good to hear you used the same workout videos. What are the odds?
I decided to do Leslie Sansone's walk DVD on Wednesdays just to break it up a little because my muscles are sore from the Yoga. I also have Sansone's 5-mile walk DVD, but I'll do that one later after I build up some endurance.
I've started 30DS today! I've attempted the first level before but only got to 12 minutes ha ha. I was tempted again too but I'm glad I pressed on because it get's a bit easier, the first cycle is definitely the hardest regarding using arms. It's those damn push ups that kill me!
Apart from to lose weight, my main objective for doing 30DS is to get stronger. I am so weak, I struggle with doors and with jugs of water and as a trainee doctor I find it very embarrassing that I can't lift male patient's legs to examine them!! I can run about 20 minutes at the minute, and I find the main reason I finish at 20 is because my legs and arms are so tired! I do hope to somehow fit in running over the next month because I would love to run 5k at some point! I stupidly bought 2kg weights that I really can't use, so at the minute I'm just using a couple of tin cans as weights. I only used them because I thought I may have better form with something to lift, but my arms are definitely sore afterwards! I hope to be able to use my 2kg weights at some point, otherwise I may have to invest in some 1kg ones.
Has anyone done 30DS before? Do you notice a big difference in your strength? And how about your weight also? I've heard it's not great for weight loss, but it does change your shape. I have weighed myself today (weep) but I don't intend to weigh myself for another month, because I find I can get a bit obsessive over it and it just ends up stressing me out. The same with calories... I'm trying to make myself give up myfitnesspal and just try to adapt a healthier life style, because that also makes me miserable too.
