Pedometer/fitness tracker recommendations
I am so sad. My Fitbit One has died on me. :( And so now, obviously, I'm in the market for a replacement.
I loved my One, but this time I think I would rather go with a tracker that I wear on my wrist. That's mainly because I change during the day (I wear jeans and stuff to school, and then when I come home I change into yoga pants; then obviously when I go to bed I change into pajamas.) And I basically have lost count of the number of days that I have looked down at my waistband halfway through the day and realize, "Oh ****, I forgot to switch my Fitbit over!" Pain in the ***, I swear. With a wristband, at least if I forgot to put it on, I would realize it right away, because I'd miss it.) I have been looking at the Fitbit Flex, but to be honest I kind of like being able to see all my stats and since that one just has those lights...I don't think I'd be really motivated by that. I also already have a Polar heart rate sensor and chest strap, so I've been leaning pretty heavily toward the Polar Loop. Whatever I decide on, I won't be able to get it for another couple of weeks anyway, so until then I'll just go to Walmart and pick up a cheap pedometer to at least keep track of my steps. But I was just wondering if anyone has used the Polar Loop, and if so what your impressions are of it. And if anyone else has a fitness tracker wristband that they love, tell me about it! This is a tougher decision than I thought it would be. *L* |
I've been using the Jawbone UP since Halloween when my FitBit Flex decided to bite the dust (or maybe it drowned in my gross sweat? Hard to say).
Between the two I prefer the UP. It tracks general sleeping patterns with the push of a button, unlike the Flex where I had to remember to find my phone, load up the app, and set the sleep mode when all I wanted was to sleep. It also has the option to set an 'idle alert' when it notices you haven't been active for anywhere between 15 minutes to up to 2 hours depending on what you set it for. The downside to it is that it is not as waterproof as the Fitbit Flex claimed to be. It can handle sweat, but they do not recommend showering, swimming, et cetera in it, whereas the Flex said to wear it all the time and the thing survived at least half a year's worth of showers. Overall the band on this one is also more durable than the Flex. The constant need to take the Flex gadget out of the band to charge resulted in a lot of wear and tear, and eventual ripping of the rubber. So far I have yet to notice even a hint of wear on the UP. So overall: Jawbone UP: WINNER |
Get the Fitbit Charge or Charge HR -- you can see stats on it.
The loop wouldn't work for me as it doesn't sync with My Fitness Pal and a lot of people don't like it. GO read some reports of what people don't like on it. |
Thanks for the input! I ended up going with a Jawbone UP24 -- I'm anxiously waiting for it to arrive (I could have bought it locally but scored an AWESOME online deal and ended up getting it for $90 versus $160 instore.)
