Lunges---my worst enemy
No matter how hard I try I almost always fall over. I can do squats, I'm certain I have proper form. I know they use a lot of the same muscles. I can't help but wonder if it's partially a center of balance issue/hip joint movement issue. I already am attempting the whole balancing with a table to hang on to me thing (chairs aren't sturdy enough, we both go over)
In which case, I guess if I can't physically do it despite all the practice, maybe there's some sort of alternative? I do best with exercises with both feet on the ground. What can I say, i'm graceful. |
Hi, I'm the same, I'm doing t25 but every time it comes to lunges I just end up falling over, I can do most of the other exercises. :(

Use a wall, or a table, or a stick for balance while working on balancing exercises. A wall won't fall over. Think about sinking straight down and practice using the wall less and less.
Balance is also heavily related to core strength. If your abs and back get stronger, it should get easier. You can try focusing on tightening your core muscles while you do them to see if that gives you some extra support. |
I think a lot of people have that problem. I was working with a trainer once and apologized for my clumsiness every time I stumbled during a lunge. He said I was actually doing better than a lot of people.

Yeah ive been workong on my core. My plank in good form is up to 35 seconds. Ill keep plugging away.

I don't do lunges. I think you get the same result from squats and deadlifts.

Thanks ian, good to know. Deadlifts is on my agenda to learn

Nicki,
Maybe try lowering the weights you use? I had the same issue, but found that lowering weights helped. I HATE HATE HATE lunges, b/c they take so MUCH out of you. But..I do love the way I feel about myself after doing them. I think it's excellent cardio in addition helping your lower body. Best, -Daniela |

Ian, I totally agree with you. As I said, I do love the way I feel after I do them- gives me a sense of accomplishment...similar to the feeling I get after running on a treadmill for 30 minutes...:^: -Daniela |
