Going to the gym: should i take a personal trainer?
Hello everybody! tomorrow is a big day for me! I am going to the gym;-) Just wanted to ask for advice guys. Should i take a personal trainer or should i try first to do everything myself? Who has an experience of working out with personal trainer? Is it worth of money? Thanks for any help!!

It's pricey, but might be worth it for a few sessions if you are totally new to the gym, and need to be shown a few basic movements. Group classes (which are usually covered as a part of your membership) are also worth starting with, since the classes will take you through a workout without having to figure things out all on your own.
You can also check out some of the older threads around here, for recommendations for designing/starting workout regimens. The important thing here is to do what you CAN - and then build from there. Don't jump in the deep end and compare yourself to anyone else; just keep moving a little more, a little better. Luck! |
Thanks Defining! Yes i understood it is quite pricey today;-)I've been at the gym many years ago;-)) So I just refreshed in the memory everything i knew and today started to work myself. The trainer in the gym gave me some advices. But i decided to try to hire my first personla trainer;-)) Cross fingers my knees not to spoil everything(( The reason i quit with gym was injure of my knees(( but many years have passed so i hope knees feel better now and will let me to work out to the full;-)))

If you can afford it and have the time to devote to seeing a trainer then why not? When I first started exercising I found it really helpful and I learned a lot. Now I'm all old and crabby and don't want to do anything anyone tells me, I just want to do it my way so now it's not something I have an interest in. But I have a friend who's been seeing a trainer and she's lost a bunch of weight. It's great to have help when you need it.

thanks Wannabeskinny! this is what i want: someone to teach me HOW to work out the best! then i can go on my own) the only problem i see is to find a good trainer( not just some guy who called himself a trainer after watching few videos on Youtube(

Trainers are great and motivational and really just want your money. I found for me I'd train hard with them but after my sessions were done and I had to workout on my own I barely did it, or didn't work as hard.
