I spent money a few months ago getting a decent treadmill and I don't regret it. It means I it doesn't matter how I dress when I exercise, I don't get sunburnt and I really do prefer exercising in private. I use my treadmill for walking as I think it would be too hard on my knees to run (maybe when I'm thinner). I like listening to music when I exercise more so than watching something on a tv. I tried watching tv while exercising and I didn't like it.

I've been noticing back problems that coincide with my running. I LOVE running outside and bought adidas Boost shoes that running mags say have about the best cushioning around.
I thought treadmills were beyond us in price. But we went through Sears today to another store. On way back I looked at them. Probably going to get an 'entry' level one that is still major bucks. I am also tempted to buy a yearly maintenance plan. It comes out to $60 bucks a year and they do the yearly maintenance stuff. Reading on the Internet it seems a good idea. It is the Nordic Track C700. With a coupon it will be $750. It has iFit. My wife is running now also. Between our joints and knees and Texas heat we feel this is a nice and justified health 'treat' for us. |
I have a home treadmill and we really love it. I like walking outside when I can. I live in an area which is a little hilly so I think I could a better workout walking outside (the treadmill has an incline but it's not the same). But it gets way too hot here in the summer so last summer I gained 10 pounds after it was too hot to walk outside! So, we bought the treadmill and it has been great for when the weather won't cooperate. We have it set up in the bedroom so we can walk and watch TV.

Really, that do that. It will be one of the greatest gifts you'd give yourselves! Just make sure you get one on which you'd love to get on often.

koshka, I got it set up by my bed too!

I bought a really good treadmill several years ago off of Craigslist, and it's one of the best purchases I've ever made. In fact, I consider it a necessity, and if it were to break, I would get another one pronto! What makes it so valuable to me is that my husband made me a homemade "tread desk" (watch this YouTube video). I do a lot of computer work at home, and I'm a naturally fast walker, so I cover at least three miles a day on my tread desk, and the best thing about it is that I get work done in the process of burning calories. I still go to the gym 5-6 days a week because I attend a CrossFit class that I love, but the extra calorie burn from my treadmill allows me to eat 2000-2200 calories a day and still maintain my weight (for more than two years now).
So, despite the fact that people often joke about buying a treadmill and using it to hang clothes on, I have gotten much more than my money's worth from mine. |
wow lin43. That great!!! Mine has been collecting dust for 2 weeks though. Bad times and logistics problems. But I'm keeping up with my diet anyway. Feeling fly!!! go treadmillers!!!

I love love love my treadmill!
I miss it terribly when I'm away from home because it's difficult for me to stay active without it. Currently, I'm on it everyday. A little while back I used a trick someone suggested. I put my workout gear on and get on the treadmill every day. That's the minimum expectation I ave for myself. If I feel like running, I will. If not, I'll get off. Of course, you always feel obliged too ;) it always works for me. Anyway, I have it sitting in the middle of the kitchen. - Always staring at me so I have to get on it. Even if just to walk. |
That great! I'll be moving mine from the hall to the bedroom soon. And get back on it!!

If you have a smartphone, you could try downloading the 5k runner app too (if your are interested in running). It help me make the jump from walking to running because it increases the intensity every few days.
