first official 10k!

  • So I posted yesterday before my first official 10k to say how nervous I was, and I'd like to report that everything went swimmingly! (runningly?) The weather was beautiful, and there was a great sense of camaraderie amongst the runners. I started sprinting when I saw the finish line, and I got a huge rush from hearing the faster runners compliment me on a strong finish. I was happy with my time (9:34 pace), and I'm looking forward to more races in my future. I like running on my own, but there's something really enjoyable about running a course with hundreds of other participants.

I'm less than 20 minutes away from running my first official 10k, and I am oddly nervous! I keep trying to remind myself that I've run further than this before, but I've still got major jitters! Does this happen to anyone else?
  • I've run several 10K's and I did one yesterday and STILL was nervous and excited.

    Good luck!!!

  • Thanks, Jen! The race went really well. I think I'm addicted now! I've already signed up for a 5k later in August and one in December, and I think I'm going to try to gear up for a half marathon, as well.
  • Races are TOTALLY addictive.

    How did you do??

I ran my first 1/2 in May, but according to my Garmin it was a short course, so I feel like I haven't REALLY run an official one. So I am looking forward to the one in September that I am doing.

  • Congratulations!
  • Well done. I managed to run 10K for the first time last Friday. It was such an achievement for me. I try to run 5 miles every day. To get to 6.2 miles I took a rest day and pulled back on the speed a bit. It worked a treat. I did it in about one hour.

I am going for seven miles next.
