Supplements and running: Glucosamine chondroitin, cissus and knee pain

  • I used to have knee pain after running which stopped me running daily.

Anyway, ReillyJ dropped in a thread that I should try supplements such as glucosamine chondroitin.

    So I did.

And by Gosh, they work. I can run daily now.

Anyone else had success with these supplements?
  • Not me personally, but my Rottweiler almost could not walk by the time he was a year old due to severe hip displaysia. Those are the supplements we gave him and they totally changed his quality of life! I became a believer in supplements then when I had always been a skeptic!
  • My husband takes them everyday. He went from not being able to walk longer than a half hour to taking 2 hour bike rides.

I'm glad it's working for you also.

Ian those are pretty much the standards for any type of arthritis and there are many more supplements to support joint health, also icing the knee after a run and go by pain, if it really hurts, rest it and DON'T overwork it, i am SO GLAD it's helping you, they haven't helped me yet but i am hoping that a couple supplements i started when i started having this knee pain are responsible for it, so i'm dropping them to see if that helps ( i have fibromyalgia so that can make the body react weird to supps) so hopefully i'll be (walking) soon right along with you.
  • Icing my knees and glucosamine/chondroitin/fish oil worked for my knee pain after running. Although now that I've stopped running I managed to develop runner's knee from squats and lunges
  • You've convinced me! I'm going to pick up a bottle of Glucosamine chondroitin tomorrow at Costco and give it a try...
  • While I agree that supplements can work I would suggest to try to find the cause of the knee pain. Look at youtube videos of proper running form and you can also check if you have proper shoes for running.

Yes, I have heard about the joint juice--(glucosamine) doing wonders for joint pain. I'm going to Walmart tomorrow to pick up some.

    I didn't believe this.

But I just bought some new running shoes for heavier set people and the knee pain has now completely gone! I am fixed. So thanks carpediem!
  • woah that's awesome

i've been thinking about getting those Dr. Scholls active series insoles, kinda pricey though but knee pain SUCKS. especially in both knees
