Well, I'll be 33 tomorrow, so I'm happy enough to be able to run at *all* at this point (considering that, before I started Couch to 5K, I hadn't run a step since fifth grade gym class!)

My ultimate goal is to participate in the Scotiabank Bluenose Marathon in 2015 to celebrate my 35th birthday (the race is held on the Victoria Day weekend every year, so right around my bday). After that...who knows....maybe I'll have Boston in my sights. :)

Well with that pace that you're running at.... Running a qualifying 3:35 marathon in the next 2 years could definitely be in the cards for you... :)

Snoofie, I made some Rocket Science Maths (...) and I realized that it is actually a freakin 3:45/KM you are running at. I am even MORE FLABBERGASTED.

I sprinted with my boyfriend at the end of our run tonight and held 4:00/km for about 300 meters and I felt I had no control whatsover on my legs after that.

You are my idol. I'm considering building a statue of you and display this in my living room (of course I'm kidding. But like BORDERLINE kidding :P ;))

For a modest fee, I'd be willing to fly to you so that I could personally pose for said statue. (Come to think of it, I could probably just be a stowaway. I'm short enough that I'd fit neatly into an overhead compartment!) :woohoo:

Ah man, I just looked at your height! Now I won't be able to blame my short legs for my slowness. ;)

Lotra91 05-21-2013 07:28 PM

Oh man I'm so glad that I ONLY run outside! I think it's helpful for me to run outside since I can't just get off the treadmill and go sit down when Im feeling like giving up. I actually have to get home! Congrats on your run, snoofie! I now look up to you!

Ahahaha, people have ALWAYS asked me how I manage to walk "so friggin' fast" when I'm only five feet tall...and believe me, not much of that is leg! *L* I always tell them that I've always HAD to walk twice as fast as everyone else just to keep up with tall people! ;)

I'm working on the statues! Jesus, there is a market for this stuff! ;)

Snoofie, I have the down-side of the height issue. People always assume I'm running fast because I have long legs. ''Meeeh, nop. BAD BAD correlations'' :P

luckyme0510 05-22-2013 05:36 AM

If you can run that fast but only for that short amount of time then my advice would simply be to learn to pace yourself. Of course you couldn't go for more than 8 minutes you're practically sprinting lol! If you can run that fast im sure you have the stamina to run a lot longer if you slow down a bit. I'm your height and I've always been a terrible runner. I was in the army and my fastest time I ever finished a two mile was 18 minutes and I was in the best shape of my life. Kudos to you!

I prefer to run outside, because I love being outside in general! But I also know that running outside was harder for me than running on a treadmill. It probably has a lot to do with terrain and dealing with elements of being outside, but I enjoy it more!

Happy birthday, Snoofie!! :bday2you:

(I started a thread but the moderators keep moving them from Weight Loss Support to General Chatter---I never go specifically to General Chatter so I wonder what else I'm missing??)

Awwwww, thank you! I just got back from a fabulous birthday dinner with my parents (fish and chips, OH MY GOD). And cake later! But, as I keep telling myself:

BIRTHDAY CALORIES DON'T COUNT!!!!!

Seriously, though, I don't worry much about one day. I only turn 33 once! Ha!

Hey Snoofie, as everyone has said, wow you run fast! Lol

I started my running journey on the road (nearly one year ago), and up until very recently, the road is all I've known. I joined the gym within the last few weeks because it's approaching winter here in South Africa and its too scary to run in the dark, especially as a female. I only get home at 6pm and then its dark by like 6:15pm lol. I have to admit that running on a treadmill is so boring to me :( There's no scenery, I keep watching the time, and I just feel bored! I only get to run on the road over the weekends because then I can go anytime. Anyway my point is that the transition from the road to the treadmill for me is also weird, just as it was weird for you the other way around. However, I think that the road will make you stronger. As you said, you have to avoid potholes and cracks and that'll give your legs a nice workout. It's also more fun, so hang in there. You'll start seeing that road running is AWESOME once your body has got used to it!

TurboMammoth 05-24-2013 04:07 PM

This afternoon, I decided to do my run at the gym on the treadmill because it is cold and rainy outside (usually, I would have pushed myself to head out anyways despite the weather, but I have a race on Sunday and I don't want to come down with a cold or something by jogging in the crappy s*** Mother Nature is throwing at us :P)

And seriously, through ALL MY RUN, I was thinking of this thread because every single run on do on the treadmill SUCKS SUCKS SUUUUCKS lol

And I mean, not sucky because I get bored (but beleive me, I do ''So, must have run at least a mile by now- WAIT WHAT JUST 0.27 mi!?) but I can't manage to be as fast on the treadmill compared to what I do outside. Seriously, this afternoon I was having trouble maintaining a pace 1 minute slower than a easy casual pace outside.

I have no ideas how you do that, girls, and I am JEALOUS :P LOL
