A Question about Whey

Hello!

I decided that I was going to start going back to the gym now. I was chatting with a guy friend online about whey and he mentioned that some whey burn body fat and reduce mass. I'm not sure what to do. Should I add whey into my workout routine?

I think building muscle would be good but I'd really like to lose the weight and not just have muscle and be the same weight. When I was working out a few years ago I was still a fat chick but I had a nice flat stomach, but my weight was like 240. I was kind of depressed that my *** was still fat so I stopped working out. I was taking whey but it was what my brother and mother were drinking which I guess I probably should *not* have been taking at the time since I couldn't seem to lose the weight. My arms are now kinda flabby atm which is really bothering me so I'd like to tighten them up so they're not flabby anymore. I also follow the South Beach Diet.

Is there a whey I can take that will actually help me lose weight? Suggestions? Comments?

Whey is just a good source of protein which you need to build muscle. Losing weight is all about eating less than you burn. So, as long as you don't add whey to your diet without reducing calories somewhere, it should be fine.

But protein can come for many sources. It doesn't have to be whey protein, but yogurt, cottage cheese, chicken, fish, etc.

There's no reason to be afraid of building muscle. For one, women are at a disadvantage genetically on muscle building and most women aren't capable of "bulking up" without using steroids. But one reason I would supplement with protein when dieting is to prevent muscle loss. Your body will cannibalize it's own muscle tissue if it needs protein and isn't getting enough through diet. As muscle fuels your metabolism, you don't want to lose it.
