Yoga and cardio

  • This is probably a tired question. But how good is yoga for cardio or weight loss I guess. Whenever I do 30 minutes I'm tired, sweating buckets, cussing, chugging water like its my job and overall feel beat.

What is it going to do for me ?
  • I love yoga... But I'm definitely no expert... Although I usually do some everyday.... and I've done a lot of different classes... Some of which have definitely gotten my heart rate up, but I usually prefer it when I hold the poses longer... and just really get into it.... focusing on my breathing and really feeling the stretch... So for me probably not much cardio benefit, maybe some toning benefit and maybe a little bit of strength benefit... but it's hard to say... The one thing I can say is it's definitely good for improving my mindset... It seems to motivate me to make other healthier choices the rest of the day... Kind of centers me.... So that's a big positive for me...

And actually, I just recently came across a yoga program that I guess is supposed to be like a px90 type yoga boot camp sort of thing that is 108 days long that looks pretty intense... So I'm gonna start that as soon as the weather is a little bit warmer here, because I want to do it outside... Which is how I really love to do yoga...
  • It will stretch you, teach you balance, strengthen your bones, calm your mind, give you discipline, tone your arms, legs, core.

    Need more?
  • I'm all for yoga, but I wouldn't consider it cardio. Strength training, perhaps.

For me personally it has lowered my stress level considerably...I was to the point I was so stressed out all the time that people were telling me I needed medication...after only a couple days of yoga I was so much calmer. After a monthly of doing it near daily I saw significant slimming in my midsection, plus a lot more strength throughout my entire body, but especially my core. I have genetic back problems that have caused me fairly constant issues since I was 12, but I haven't had a take a single pain pill for my back since the first week of yoga. And then there is the added bonus of making me feel really sexy and powerful.
