Problems with my feet while exercising
Lastnight I tried my 1st fairly intense workout. I was walking up and down one step. Within 5-10 min I had to stop. The arch of my foot was in serious pain. I felt like I was about to get a severe foot cramp. I get this feeling while walking distance as well but not as bad as this time. No matter what shoes I am wearing or if I am barefoot, it is still there.

I fell like it is crippling me. I wanted to push through a good workout but I couldn't get past the pain.

Any suggestions?

I had problems with my ankles and calves because I naturally walk and run in a way that allows my ankles to collapse in. Also, I've had quite severe foot pain whilst doing Zumba recently but it's pretty much gone away with just a few adjustments to how I'm placing my feet (distributing weight more evenly, trying to be more balanced etc).

Maybe looking at some good shoes and the way in which you're moving could make the world of difference? Many running shops (at least where I live) will film your feet whilst you run on a treadmill and will be able to suggest good shoes to make you more comfortable and stop you from hurting yourself. Getting new shoes this way definitely helped me...they can cost quite a bit but I think it's worth it in the long run.

However, it could be a completely different issue which is actually to do with your feet...perhaps go to the doctor to make sure everything is okay first?

I think it's probably just weight related and nothing too serious. When I was 220-230lbs I couldn't hardly walk for 15 minutes straight without my feet starting to go numb, and now I'm a lot lighter, I don't get that problem at all.

But if you want peace of mind, then definitely go and see your doctor; it can't hurt :)

As for exercise, just continue what you're doing and only do as much as you can without it being too painful; I bet as you start to lose weight it will ease up. Just don't feel like you need to do strenuous workouts straightaway to see results; any movement will help. GL!

Apart from looking at shoes I'd recommend you to work on mobility in your ankles and stretching your calves at different points of the day. If it doesn't improve in more than a week or two with an arch support and good shoes, I'd get it checked out by a specialist (orthopedic surgeon or podiatrist). I had severe pain in the arch of one foot after doing heavy lifting during a move. There was some swelling too. It lasted for a few weeks without improving and I finally went to the doctor to find out it was an inflammation of the posterior tibial tendon (google for details). He prescribed a special orthotic for just that one foot. Not just an arch support, it extends up all around my heel and down to just before the ball of my foot. It took a few adjustments to get it right, but there was almost immediate improvement and I still wear it most of the time.

I'm not sure I agree with it being weight related. I just ran a half marathon at 230 so I think that there's something more than just being heavy. I don't think it's serious but it may be something that flares up (like achilles or plantars) with stairs.

I think you'd probably benefit from seeing a GP who might be able to give you some stretches to help you out.

I have plantar fasciitis in both feet I'm not saying that is what you have but try taking a 20 oz pop bottle fill it with water and freeze it. Then roll it back and forth under your foot, see if it helps.
