How Many Days Is Best to Do Yoga

For those who do yoga to maintain good flexibility, how many days a week do you think would be optimal?

Well, to further my practice I find that going 5 days in a row is best for me. However, just to maintain flexibility I think that 3-4 times is reasonable.

I do it at varying intensity 4-5 days a week, but I think 3-4 times a week is enough, too. I do a mix of yoga classes and videos at home.

My exercise schedule depends on my wacky rotating work schedule. I aim to run 2-3 times a week, go to yoga class 2-3 times a week, and do a yoga video at home the remaining days. For example, last week was 2 yoga classes, 2 runs, 3 yoga videos. This week so far has been 2 yoga classes, 1 run, 1 yoga video, and 1 missed day, planning on yoga class tomorrow and run Saturday. But I'm trying to lose weight, increase my fitness, and destress, which is why I'm trying to exercise every day.

For your goals, aiming for 4 days a week and being happy with 3 days a week sounds pretty reasonable to me. But I'm no expert, just a recovering fat chick. :p

What are some of your favorite yoga exercise videos, and how many minutes are your yoga exercise sessions?

I go to a class so don't do videos. I do 60 minutes of hot yoga (similar to Bikram) 4-5 times a week.

I practice hot yoga (60-90 minutes) every second day, this gives my body a bit of a rest and time to heal - I tend to push myself a little bit too hard sometimes ;)

I have the Biggest Loser dvd - the first level is 30 minutes - I thinks the 2nd and 3rd levels are 20 and 15 minutes. It's tough - when I first started it, I'd be sweaty and trembly-armed by then end. My favorite dvds are Namaste Yoga - it used to be a series on FitTV. They're 22 minutes each, and gentler. Each episode gets tougher - I still can't do all the moves in the last 2 shows.

I do mostly 90 minute classes at the yoga studio. Some of them are hot, some are not. They even do a warm candlelight class in the evenings, which I love. The hot vinyasa class is HARD, but I feel so strong (and sweaty) when it's done.

I'm definitely still a beginner, but I'm hooked. :D

Sure, if I want to. I never feel like I need to, though.

Yoga really works?

So I have a question, can yoga help with significant weight loss or does it just make you more flexible? :?:

I do it to stay flexible and to improve my posture.

I think cardio is probably best for burning calories. Strength training helps build muscle, which also burns calories.
