Low impact?

Anybody know any low impact exercises I can do? Other than walking. I hurt my back recently, so my doctor wants me to only do low impact exercise. But I still want to see results. Any ideas?

Here are a few low-impact aerobic exercise videos:

If you have access to a local gym, YMCA, or fitness center with a pool, they may offer aqua classes. Very good resistance training and very very low impact since it's in water.

swimming, cycling, rowing, elliptical

Is yoga considered low impact? I know it's not a jarring exercise like running, but it does require some hard to twist into poses.

I am not a doctor so do ask your doctor or physiotherapist before embarking on this but I have a bad hip and I was told exercise biking was fine since there is no impact. It has indeed been fine for the last four days, I don't feel any pain but it burns 240 calories per half hour!

I second the suggestion for water aerobics... I've had some back issues over the years and being able to swim and do aqua "jogging" when I couldn't run was a God send for me...

Water aerobics, chair aerobics, walking/power walking, body flow, kayaking, the elliptical that doesn't incline, tai chi (a great one!), pilates, rollerblading, ball room dancing!
