Need suggestions on class/video

  • Hello Everyone,

    I need some advice/suggestions please. :-)
I would love to take a Jazzercise or Dance Aerobics type class, but I live in a very small town, and there is nothing like that offered anywhere closeby. Does anyone know of a good dance aerobic type video (preferably something modern, with a good beat, *s*)? I know doing the videos alone or with a friend won't be the same as a class, but at least maybe it will be something a little different and will get me motivated to get back to work.

    Thanks!,

  • Are you so sure that there's no Jazzercise classes in your area? Try going to www.jazzercise.com - they have a class locator for the US and international. Jazzercise is just so much fun and motivating that I'd hate for you to miss out!

  • MrsJim,

Wow, thanks for the jazzercise website. I found that there is a class location that isn't too terribly far from the town I work in (about 25-30 minutes away); however, it is about 1 1/2 hrs from my home and since the class times are such that I would only be able to attend on my days off, it's going to be a bit of a drive. I think I might see if my sister will go and try a class with me though. My work schedule is going to change in the next couple of weeks, and maybe then I'll be able to attend a class before or after work. :-) Hhhmm...I think I'll e-mail or call the instructor too, because it only shows Jazzercise and Circuit Training available at this location, and I read about Jazzercise LITE and Simply Jazzercise, which might be more what I need to start with. I'm not sure....how intense are the regular Jazzercise classes?

    Thanks again!,

  • A hour and a half away...jeez. You might want to send an e-mail to Jazzercise Inc and let them know you all need a franchise out there!

Jazzercise is as intense as you want to make it. Mostly, it's a lot of fun -- most of the instructors I've met have been exteremly supportive and understanding, and have a pretty good grasp on fitness knowledge. The classes I've been to there are women (and some guys) of all ages and - yes - sizes, so noone need feel left out. Everyone goes at their own pace. There are some other Jazzercisers who post here as well - check some threads farther down on the Exercise board...actually I must confess right here that due to my busy work schedule I no longer go to Jazzercise (I work out early in the morning at a nearby 24 hour Fitness and at the gym at work). BUT I do have fond memories of my class -- first time I really looked FORWARD to daily exercise -- Donna (my regular Jazzercise instructor) made us all love exercise and feel like real dancers! Go for it - who knows, maybe one day YOU'LL become a Jazzercise instructor!! (Yes it can happen!!!)

  • I LOVE Jazzercise. We didn't have a location near us for quite awhile. Although I really enjoyed it, I tried to go to classes in the town where I worked. I found it very hard due to getting home pretty late and then having to carry on the household.

I would contact Jazz and see if they have anyone in the area or an instructor that would travel to your area.

I have tried the Jazzercise Funk workout vidoe and it is pretty good.

You can make Jazz low impact by taking out the bounce. I have bad knees due to snow skiing and I always do low impact and still see results!

    Good Luck

  • Hey! If you're looking for videos, check out collagevideo.com. It gives you a complete run down on the type of workout, intensity level, choreography level, etc. I've taught dance aerobics classes for 16 years and any time I need some new moves, I get a new tape to spice up my classes. Judy Sheppard Missett (creator of Jazzercise) had some tapes out years ago, but I'm not sure if they're still available.
  • Hi, I am back!
I got a couple of The Firm tapes. WOW, I can feel it working. They say you are guaranteed results with 10 workouts and I believe it. I just got the 5-day abs and lower body sculpting and it is a great suppliment to my Jazzercise Cardio classes. The Ab tape is 5, 5-7 min. abs only workouts, really quick and good too.
They also have cardio and body sculpting tapes. You might check to see if the library has any to try.
I am impressed with them as I ususally don't like videos and these I look forward too.
