Ankle pain when walking.
I just started walking/working out about a week ago. I've been walking anywhere from 1-2 miles a day. On about the third day I started getting bad ankle pain. My right one hurts more than the left but today was almost unbearable. The pain is an awful burning/tightening sensation. It started at about .4 of a mile and the pain always stops as soon as I stop walking and sit down. It mainly hurts the most around the bone that pokes out. Does anyone have any advice? Walking has become such a great stress reducer for me and I would hate to have to stop because of the pain :(. I don't think I've injured it. I have sprained it a little before but it's been a long time since then.

This happens to me too when I use the elliptical for longer than 15 minutes... would love to know what it is.

maybe you can walk the same distance, but broken up into smaller chunks? and you can build up the distance from there. my right foot and ankle and foot has been hurting as of late when i walk also. i think it's because i haven't really been doing much for a while now and my body's trying to adjust. perhaps it's the same situation for you? if it hurts really bad, you should talk to your doctor about it and s/he can give you a suitable solution.

I have posterior tibial tendonitis/dysfunction... this is how my symptoms started. PLEASE get it checked out by a doctor just to be sure. Maybe you just need to stretch but seeing a doctor is best.

That used to happen occasionally to me before I started losing weight, but as I lost, it happened less and less frequently. Always wondered what it was, though!
