Injured myself, both physically and emotionally...

I was doing great, I started the Boot Camp Challenge, an exercise routine that is based on how you are trained in the army, which really spoke to me since I am the daughter of two army veterans. I was moving along nicely, until Wednesday. After my workout I went for a walk for about an hour and a half to do some shopping (the benefits of not having a car), and by the time I got home I noticed my ankles were a bit sore. I didn't think much of it, put some Icy Hot on it, and watched a movie on Netflix. When it was over, I sat up and while standing up had EXCRUCIATING pain in my ankles and knees. It just got worse from there.
Yesterday was bad, but bearable, but after going to work which entails standing for about 7 hours on a concrete floor on a foam pad which does pretty much nothing, I almost collapsed by the end of the day. As soon as I got home I took off my boots (which were probably holding me up since they are a hiking-type thing that come up over the ankle) I noticed my ankles were very swollen. I was up most of last night tossing and turning because they hurt so bad.
This morning is pretty bad, taking 3 ibuprofen and am going to probably go back to sleep before I have to get up for work at 10.
I did some research, and probably messed up my joints from jogging. It just makes me feel awful about myself. It was circuit training. At most I jogged for 2mins at a time. I felt AWESOME. I was short of breath, sure, but I felt so great afterwards, my calves didn't even burn anymore!! But that was too much? I'm really that fat that I can't jog for at most 6mins a day, not even all at once??
I just feel really bad about myself. I should be doing the next part now, but I just can't bring myself to do it. Any weight on my ankles and I feel like I'm going to die. I had to go up and down the stairs this morning to say goodbye to my boyfriend, clinging to the rail for dear life, in so much pain.
WHAT DID I DO TO MYSELF?
When this gets better, should I exercise with ace bandages on my feet or something? I'm going to replace the jogging in place with marching in place when I resume my 3x a week workouts on Monday. (as long as I'm not in pain by then)
What is a safe weight to start jogging again, since apparently it's too much right now?
I'm just so mad and frustrated, I'm sorry.
:?::mad::bomb::cry::tantrum: yup that about sums up how I'm feeling.

And to add to it, my weight jumped from 268->270. Not a big deal normally but it isn't helping. I understand it happens. But still.

It sounds like you started a too strenuous exercise program for your level of fitness. It takes a long time to damage joints. The swelling is probably from overuse of muscles.

It comes on so sudden? One day I'm great and the next like this? I'm actually having trouble walking.

omg! Hope you get well soon.

I think the exercises you did are too intense for you?

TheVikingNinja 07-10-2012 08:20 AM

I ended up going to the hospital because the pain was so intense my boyfriend had to literally help me walk. Turns out I damaged tendons. My knees and left ankle are good now, but my right still needs to be wrapped 24/7. They referred me to a specialist, but the lack of insurance thing is probably not going to let that happen. Today I am finally returning to work. Sometimes it can take months for things like this to heal, but I hope it doesn't take that long. I can exercise once the pain is gone and I can jump without feeling any pain. Still taking 3 ibuprofen every couple of hours, but at least I'm getting some relief from them unlike before.
No more jogging. I can march in place but until my weight is down to say, 180-190 I can't jog. Wonderful feeling to be told you are too fat to jog....
Anyways.
On the road to recovery as they say.
And the cause? Jogging in skate shoes. Go figure. Before that I was barefoot. So guess I need to either wear my boots (kind of like a sneaker/boot) or try to find an old pair of sneakers at my parents house.

So for all you emo kids or punks out there, don't jog in that style of shoe. Haha.

Given that you've already injured yourself trying to run in improper shoes, I'd strongly suggest not trying it again in an old pair of sneakers or sneakerboots. Get proper running shoes.

Wow. That really sucks! I'm still not sure what was the cause but about 2 months ago, I got a serious pulled abdominal muscle (or a hernia? I have no health insurance either) and I am still unable to exercise. It blows big time.

I wish you a speedy recovery and I totally second the idea of getting the right shoes so you don't get injured again or anything like that.

OMG, NO! The same thing happened to my husband (and he's muscular and not overweight at all) from jogging in skate shoes!

Get some running shoes... Skate shoes are not made for running, they put your ankles in all the wrong angles.

I hope you feel better soon!
