Retaining water from exercise, should I take a day or two off?
For the past 8 days I have exercised every day. Sometimes at the gym and sometimes just going on ridiculously long walks (2-4 hours). I'm stiff in the mornings and evenings and when I walk I can feel my leg muscles. Additionally I've seen a 10lb increase in my weight (mind you, TOM has also come to visit).
I'm pretty sure I'm retaining water from the exercise, judging from my stiffness. Should I stop for a day or two? Or just keep trucking? |
If you're in a lot of pain, take a break. If not, your body will get used to it.

I generally take one rest day per week, you might find that helpful.

If I'm really sore I go to a yoga class with the intention of getting a really good stretch (not attempting any crazy or strenuous poses). Definitely stretch out, take some ibuprofen, drink plenty of water, and rest.

If you're so stiff you can't function, give it a rest for a day, or do some light stretching and Yoga. Otherwise, I count muscle soreness as a good thing! It means your muscles are growing and doing what you want them to do :).
