Never ran before in my life.. started C25K!

  • Today I stepped out in my excercise gear carrying a bottle of water and my iPod, pressed play on Rob Ullrey's C25K week 1 podcast and started running!

I was doing great until I really started finding it hard to recover in the 90 seconds walk slots, and with two more run bursts to go I had to press pause for an extra minute's rest, but I finished the thirty minutes!

I used to think I was not too unfit, as I've been a fairly regular exerciser (usually do Jillian Michaels' 30DS) but if this is supposed to be straight from the couch level and I had to pause it, I must be bad!!
  • Congrats on finishing the 30m! You may not be as bad as you think, it could just be your body need to adjust to the new way of exercising.

I haven't tried C25K yet, I plan to but for now I am too chicken. You go Girl!
  • I did week 1 day 1 last night as well. I'm sure I sounded bad during the 60 second runs puffing away but I made it. Finishing always feels like a huge accomplishment.

    Congrats!
  • Well done I really want to start C25K but i am unbelievably unfit! I suppose today is as good as any to start..!
  • Great job! I just did w1/d1 today too! I tried it once before but gave up half way through and walked home in shame lol. I kept saying I was too heavy to start now but I'm freaking 20 years old and should be outside running lol. Hope to keep up with your progress! Have you listened to the Chubby Jones podcast?
  • Awesome! I started out with c25k a few months ago and now I am running 10k. I honestly never would have believed it possible.

The biggest advice I would give anyone that starts c25k is - run SLOW. Seriously, just make sure you can finish the time or the distance you are doing, but don't try and be speedy about it. Speed matters nothing untill you have the endurance to run 30minutes. It should be the least important thing on your mind. Run like you are jogging in slow motion if you have to.

Goodluck and keep it up! It get's easier and in a few weeks you are gonna feel so accomplished that you can run more than 5mins or 8 mins or even 20mins without breaks!
  • Hang in there. I am on W7 and it does get better. I would have NEVER believed that I could run 25 minutes straight when I was in W1. I actually thought W1 was going to kill me. It's amazing how the body adjusts.....Cheering all of us on to W9.

    PHILANA...So inspiring!!!! I can't even fathom a 10k right now
