Exercise and energy

  • I always hear that exercise is supposed to boost energy, but the simple fact is that exercise makes me more tired. I've always been this way. If I exercise I get tired earlier in the day or evening and I need more sleep. This happens whether the exercise is intense or more moderate. I've been exercising regularly for the past 6 months, but I wish it didn't have this effect on me. Anyone else?

  • IMHO, I think your body is telling you that you need more sleep, maybe you're not getting enough overall sleep at night... I think it's totally normal to be tired if you've had a full day of work, gym, come home take care of the house, DH, kids, etc, etc.... Maybe you could go to bed earlier...
  • OR...... maybe not eating the right foods before or afterwards???
  • You are 140 pounds at 5'11 according to your profile. It could be that you aren't getting enough nutrition. Maybe talk to your doctor and have some blood work done, you could be deficient in some things.

Well, I've experienced exercise-induced fatigue at all weights and calorie intakes. These days i'm eating 2,000 calories per day and don't think I'm lacking in nutrition.

I don't think so. I'm pretty moderate in my exercise habits. Right now I just go for a 40-minute wog (about 2/3 jogging, 1/3 brisk walking) 4 times per week.

I definitely need (and get) more sleep on the days I exercise. If I exercise in the morning, I usually have a nap that afternoon. Fortunately I'm able to incorporate naps into my days because I work from home. Still, I wish I experienced the phenomenon of feeling MORE energetic from exercise. Never have.
