Default Do I need different shoes?

I've been going to the gym every other day for a little over a month now. I've been wearing my work shoes when I workout because they are the better pair of shoes that I have. They are Reebok ZigNano. I walk a lot where I work and I wanted comfortable shoes and they've done a great job so I figured they would be good for the gym instead of my well over a year old other work shoes that I've retired. Here recently the outside of my right foot has been hurting. It doesn't really hurt when I'm working out but the next day it hurts to walk. I've been looking into different shoes and which ones would be best but now I'm starting to think that I might be doing something wrong when I workout. I do weight machines and I start out on the cross trainer eliptical. Any suggestions would be great! And thanks in advance!
