Treadmill Intervals this morning 5 min warmup, 9x2min @ 2min recovery - ramped up the intervals from 7.6 to 8.0. 8.0 was probably a bit too fast. Doable but I felt my gait wasn't smooth which leads to bad things. Did 3 at 8.0 and brought it back down.

Soreness is beginning to subside, thank goodness. I'm gonna try to run again on Thursday I think. Slow easy and short run, haha.

Project SuperCorgi Update:

Friday I ran him 9 miles (about 90 min of running and 15 min walking). He didn't drag at all! And it was even a new, more challenging route, with a half-mile-long hill at a grade of about 45deg! We are getting closer and closer to our goal of running a half-marathon w/ challenging hills. I realize we won't set any records time-wise when compared to triathletes and marathon runners, but maybe we will become legendary as a duo of an overweight chick and her small-breed dog...

Sunday I ran him 4.5 miles on a mostly-flat surface. He didn't drag then, either. His endurance and strength are getting even better--after the hard run Friday he wasn't even tired!

Just thought i'd chip in and say WOW!! 10 pages of running thread in less than one month! Nice work runners!!!

I didn't run at all for about 5 weeks over christmas whilst i was on holiday etc but have been out 6 times this last two weeks ranging from 20min to 70min.

Fun fun fun (even though it's rained every time i think!). It's good to get out and get some fresh air and get back in to it.

I'm doing a 50km charity trek in the mountains in May, so what i'd really like to get on with doing is combine some increased running training with trekking training and plan a few 3-6hr long walk/run efforts over the next few months.

NW - i like the Supercorgi project! It's all good as long as he's enjoying it, but dragging along a reluctant dog is no fun, i've done that before!!

devadiva 01-25-2012 07:16 PM

all I have to say is more POWER to you I love MY PRY but I can not drag him any where and have the hurt knees to prove it !!! He weighs more than me we had his hair shaved this week {allergies} and I NOW see he is solid mucsle and not HAIR like I once thought!!! He looks like a white mastiff!!! So AGAIN MY HATS OFF TO ANOTHER RUNNER I continue to bow not...just because of my age!

Lol, SuperCorgi doesn't drag because he's tired--except for that one time I calibrated my pedometer wrong and ran him for over 2 hours trying to get the thing to read at least 6 miles. Maybe 1 mile away from home that night he went "sploot" (a lie-down position Corgi owners affectionately refer to as "flying squirrel) in some grass and refused to move so I had to sit down with him for 5 min or so before he agreed to move on. I have since re-calibrated my pedometer.

But I digress. These days SuperCorgi only drags because he has a) just had a 1-mile increase added to our route and he is not in shape for it yet, b) he has seen a rabbit running into the bushes, c) he sees ducks/geese and wants to herd them into the nearby lake, or d) there is duck or rabbit poo on the grass next to the sidewalk and he wants very badly to eat it. You'd be surprised how much force a very buff 35-lb stumpy dog can exert when he lunges on his leash. He gives my upper body just as much of a workout as my lower body when he drags.

On days he doesn't drag, he's being a good boy and staying focused. For maybe 15 min out of our long-distance runs, we walk because we are near areas where he might become skittish and dive-bomb my legs to get away from loud buses. These days, however, as we approach the 12-mile goal, when he is physically tired and starts to drag I walk him for about 1 minute to let him recover. When he's recovered, he tells me so by looking up at me with a very pointed doggy grin. This is how he tells me he wants to run again.

The vet always remarks on how healthy he is--very shiny coat, nice waistline and very strong legs and chest. SuperCorgi is a hard worker, so let him decide when he needs to recover and when he's ready to push himself again. Not surprisingly, he loves pushing himself!

Great job running with the pooches, I have no patience for that, not to mention I have a beagle who'd stop every five seconds for something;)

6 miles today, nothing interesting to report other than the hunger has been a bit difficult to deal with this week, oh well! Fortunately it's a cutback week so hopefully that will improve. Mid-week over eating always throws me so I'm a bit off today:)

Great work everyone!

Lots of miles being logged! You ladies are doing awesome!
Did 5.3 on tuesday and 6 on a treadmill yesterday. Feeling really good. Planning on 4 today, but want to bump up my incline. Been lifting really consistently too. Now if I could only get my calories in check I'd be all round doing great.

Not to say I'm glad you're hungry, but I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who deals with hunger issues. If I have a calorie deficit >500, my stomach starts rumbling, even though I am getting enough nutrition. How do you deal with it? I am still looking for ways to cope with it and not give in and eat a little something more. Half the time I start with a >500cal deficit, then go for a run and wind up so ravenous afterward I need to eat about 150cal more to stop my limbs from feeling hollow. :?:

Ran out of time at the gym to get in my tempo run. Did a couple miles on the tread at home but wimped out early.

ncuneo 01-28-2012 09:42 AM

How to deal with hunger...oh if I had a good answer to that I'd be a millionaire! It depends honestly, I can usually tell if I'm legitimately hungry cause I need fuel or if I'm hungry because of stress or hormone imbalance or if I'm hungry because I've eaten too many carbs or too much sugar. If it's the first I will add a snack. If it's one of the later, I can usually drink a cup of coffee and that will do the trick, but sometimes this backfires and the caffine spikes my hunger later. If your arms are feeling hollow - EAT! I'm set up to lose 1/2 lb per week (so only a 250 cal deficit) but I usually try to get 500 so I can eat a little more over the weekend and still lose that 1/2 lb. It's working pretty well. I tend to need to eat more to lose weight, but when I say more that means more clean whole foods.

So it's cutback week this week, 12 miles tomorrow...then...the big prep for the 20 miler! Have a great weekend everyone!

CherryPie99 01-29-2012 05:45 PM

Just checking in! I ran 7 miles for the second time today. 77:14. I still haven't ever gotten to the point where I didn't want to quit after about 2 miles - LOL. I wonder if there will ever come a day where I just love running.

I do love my heart rate monitor showing 500 calories burned though!

philana 01-30-2012 10:12 AM

OMG. So, I am really new to running and was working on the c25k plan in week 5 now. But I got so bored and thought I could do more. Today I just set a 2mile route and decided I wanted to run it. No matter how slow, I wanted to just do it.

And I did, in 22 minutes. I have never before ran for longer than 8minutes without walking breaks. So I am SOOOO happy. I started feeling a bit queesy the last 3 minutes but nothing too bad.

Here is my map

Maybe any of you experienced runners can tell me if my average speed was okay or if I should slow it down some? I feel like I spread my energy quite evenly, the second half took me only 1 minute longer than the first half.

(Oh, and I ran this with our German Shepherd, she is just amazing, she had enough energy to play after the run. LOL - my trick to keeping her focussed is having her run in the middle of the 'road' away from the grass and smells. Works like a charm.)

devadiva 01-30-2012 01:34 PM

Took sun off totally got 3.6 in today felt great still NO PAIN will try kicking up the miles to 5 later in the week...its 4 weeks till my 10k.
