Yesterday was my day off. Went to the gym during the afternoon & did some ab exercises, then ran 4 miles. My time was 36:24.

fitmom 08-12-2011 10:39 AM

My running time this morning was 24 minutes (exactly) for 3.2 miles. A personal best. Might not seem like much to the more seasoned runners but considering that I just started two months ago and I'm not exactly twenty ;), I think it's something to be proud of, lol.

Wow! I'm on the otherside of 40 and have been running for 4 months and I have your time for 2 miles (maybe a minute or 2 less), not three! Your speed is just shy of 8 minute miles. My goal is to get to 10. I think you'll reach your goal of 4 miles sooner than your siggie says and much, much faster than an hour. Congrats!

envelope 08-12-2011 02:33 PM

You all are faster than me. :) My personal best for a 5K is 42m37s. I typically average 15 min miles.

The thing I love about jogging is that I am not out to beat anyone else...just myself. Well, I guess I am out to beat the cut off time for any race I might be in.

Emme 08-12-2011 02:45 PM

'Morning, everyone! I bought two new pairs of running shoes and, wow, does it make a difference. I could tell that I wasn't struggling as much and actually enjoyed my run today. Next week I am going to up my mileage a bit. I have 9 weeks left until my first 5K, so I'm hoping that's enough time to get up to 3.1 miles. I'm at 1.5 now and I'm going to slowly work my way up. I'm nervous, lol!! :dizzy:

Really? I never know if my time is good or not since I'm still such a newbie. Sometimes I feel shy to post my time here because it seems like everyone is so experienced in running compared to me. I, too, think I could do 4 miles in like 40-45 minutes...maybe. Thanks for the vote of confidence, I really needed it today. You're doing well yourself. :D

fattymcfatty 08-12-2011 05:20 PM

Thanks again for all the advice ladies. I'm working on running for a longer period of time, so I guess working on the endurance rather than speed.

FatPantsSkinnyJeans 08-12-2011 07:13 PM

Did my 8 miler!! I was extremely slow, and I'm sore, but happy I finished. I only stopped for water-- no walking! I feel rather proud... :)

Good luck this weekend Ncuneo!!

ncuneo 08-14-2011 06:20 AM

Here we go! Just over an hour till race time! Given that I've eaten horrifically over the last week I feel pretty good. I took it easy the last two days and stopped the alcohol too. I know I haven't been drinking enough water though, hopefully that's not an issue given that it's 91% humidity today, only 66 out though so it should be ok.

3, 2, 1 - go! I'll report back later, everyone think sub 2:19!

ncuneo 08-14-2011 01:52 PM

Finished just ahead of the 2:15 pace runners so I'm pretty confident I beat my 2:19! Would have been able to do it faster but there were SO many people and it would have taken a lot of weaving and I wasn't in the mood. My foot has also been bothering me (planter fascists I think) and it started up about half way. Regardless, had a blast! Now it's time to reduce milage to let my foot heal and get back on the weight loss train for a bit, but I want to crack 1000 this year so I'll need to keep it at about 20 miles per week.

mkroyer 08-14-2011 02:17 PM

Congrats ncueno! Sorry about ur foot....take a break, u earned it! :)but i know u have ben Trying to drop weight again, but i think u look great in the race picture! Now that u aren't training tho, u can def focus more on it

envelope 08-14-2011 02:21 PM

Congratulations Ncueno!

Awww, thanks! I'm about 10 - 15 above my lowest, hard to say I've been on vacation for a week and pigging out, well kinda. I think the gain weight gain was a good thing for me. I've learned a lot and learned it's not the end of the world and I know what to do about it and I will do it. It's just been on hold because of my training. Once I get above 20 miles per week weight loss is really hard for me, so I'm welcoming the reduction:) I also feel like getting into the low 30s was a good wake up call for what my body can handle. I had no injuries last year and now 3 so far this year, 1 sprain, one from old orthopedics, and now an overuse injury. So it really is time to slow it down a little, especially since running was one of my main forms of maintenance and I'm not a big fan of it's replacements (i.e. Cycling).

fitmom 08-14-2011 06:39 PM

That's awesome ncuneo! And your son is so cute...I remember when my two boys were little like that.

fitmom 08-14-2011 06:53 PM

So my run yesterday was a complete wash...literally. It stormed all day long so I haven't run since Friday and I'm getting antsy, lol. Anyway, today is my day off so I spent it with my family. Tomorrow's weather is supposed to be better so I'm taking my oldest son with me to do some hill sprinting intervals with me. I told him to set the alarm for 5 a.m. and he said, "God, Mom, that's like hardcore." I'm so excited to take him with me. He's been coming with me more and more when I run, he's very interested in joining the track team when he gets to middle school. It's great to exercise with him now that he's older. It seems like just yesterday, I was pushing him in the stroller. Now he's up to my shoulder and runs beside me. Hope everyone else is doing well.

fozentusic 08-14-2011 10:18 PM

ncuneo - you are an inspiration. I hope to be where you are one day!

I'm trying. I'd like to build my endurance a bit more. I know I can complete the 5k easy, but I'd really like to come in between the 30-35minute mark. I can do 5k in 35 on a treadmill now. I currently train so much indoors that it's going to take some extra effort to get that time outdoors.

I didn't get to run this weekend. :'( I felt so gross and was afraid to run thinking my stomach would give out on me. It was my own fault for eating crap food and making my body angry. Back at it tomorrow for some interval work! I also finally ordered the garmin footpod for indoor running. I'm addicted to my Forerunner 405cx and can't wait for the weather to cool off so I can play with it outside some more.

milmin2043 08-15-2011 01:50 AM

I ran the Hottest Half, half marathon, here in my great state of Texas, this morning. My fifth since March of this year. Chip time was 2:13:57, a personal record for me. I am training to run the Dallas White Rock Marathon in Dec., so I used today's run as my long training run. It was so much more fun doing it with other people.

I actually don't worry too much about weight loss when I'm running actively. True to myself though and my obsessions, running has taken over my obsession to eat too much. I may never figure out what really drives my compulsions, but for now, I am happy and as healthy as a person with Parkinson's can be. Life is good.

Awesome job!! :cheer: I live about 30 minutes away from Chicago and the half was all over the news. It was so neat seeing footage of all the runners! Great job!

NTexas 08-15-2011 11:23 AM

Congrats, ncuneo! Way to beat your time! And congrats to milmin2043 - kudos to running in this Texas heat.

I did 3 miles this morning. Just a walk in the park to you guys, but fantastic for me :P

milmin2043 08-15-2011 05:12 PM

NTexas-good for you! 3 miles is nothing to sneeze at and as for me, many days, in this heat, 3 miles is grueling!! Definitely no walk in the park. You look great, by the way. Congratulations on your loss so far.

FatPantsSkinnyJeans 08-16-2011 08:50 AM

5 miler today per my training schedule... :)

I am starting to feel like it's true that running and hard training really make weight loss tough. I look forward to the challenge and fun of this race, but have intentions to cut back after it's over.

The hard, long runs really mess with your appetite and your body's ability to let go of weight. But, I'm having fun and enjoying the process of pushing my muscles and achieving new goals.

Happy Running, and lookin' good everyone!

Don't say that...3 miles is a huge accomplishment! Good for you. :)

fitmom 08-16-2011 11:30 AM

Tomorrow I'll be adding another 1/10 of a mile so we'll see how my time and endurance are, lol. I'm gonna be so sad when the weather by me gets really cold and snowy and I can't run outside anymore. :( Happy running to all.

envelope 08-16-2011 12:43 PM

milmin2043 - Congrats on your PR! I am doing my first 1/2 on Sept. 10.

Ncuneo - How is your foot doing? I think I may have hit the spot in training where I am not losing weight. I have been right around 168.2 for 11 days...so either this is just my longest pause or I will not lose much more until after my race. I was really hoping to be near the mid 150s for the 1/2. Oh well, I am not going to stop training just to lose a few more pounds at this point.

ncuneo 08-16-2011 04:41 PM

Awesome job NT!

Envelope - 11 days isn't really that long of a stall. Just hang tight and know you can kick butt after your race.

Foot is ok, it's being a little inconsistent which is making it hard to self diagnose:) after the race it hurt like he** but I took Alieve and a nap and it felt fine when I woke up. It seems to only bother me after running or walking for a long period of time. I bought some additional arch support to wear on the trip since we were walking so much and I might try them out on tomorrow mornings run. I'm thinking 6 miles tomorrow. To stay on track to reach 1000 miles for the year I need to try and be around 20 miles each week and since I didn't run Monday or today I'll need a 6/4/10 to get it this week. We'll see how I feel, I may take it easier this week and make it up somewhere else later.

Oh and more good news, looks like I only gained about 5-7 lbs (hard to tell what's just water) from all my debauchery the last 11 days! Guess working out while on vacation does pay off!

fitmom 08-17-2011 04:40 PM

Well, I nixed the run idea this morning and did sprinting intervals with my almost ten-year old son. I had such a blast. He's become like my little workout buddy. I'm sore as heck but it felt great to get outside again. We've had like a week straight of driving rain. :(

But I am itching to get back to my regular running. So, Friday I'll be running 3.2 plus 10% to try to add some mileage on...working toward the four miles. Hopefully, I can do without conking out, lol.

Kidding me...in some places depending on your race size...this could be a placement prize for age group!

My fastest pace is 24min for 3.1!

twinmommaplusone 08-18-2011 12:52 AM

Hi all....reading and keep up !

My race is Sunday!

13.1 here I come!

Last year I was still overweight and running and came in 2:29

A few weeks ago I did a fast paced 14 miler and my Garmin said 1:56 for 13.1 so that's my time to beat for Sunday!

Happy Running!

Seriously? Like I stated previously, I'm a newbie to the world of running so I never really know what's an acceptable time, lol. I used to run track in elementary school and was actually quite good at it. But that was three decades ago so when I picked up my running shoes in June, I was not expecting much. I've still got a ways to go in my book but thanks for the vote of confidence. And good luck on the race as well! :)

mkroyer 08-18-2011 12:05 PM

hey all
havent posted much about my ruinning lately , because frankly, i HAVENT been running, at least not structured..... i got my period back late this spring, and i dont want to do ANYTHING to tip the boat, so... for the first time in my life i am only running when and where i WANT to, not because i HAVE to... its great... this mostly means im just trail running on the weekends, with an occasssional lunchtime run herer and there... and its been ok
Unfortunately, ive had a BIG setback
i injured my leg at the end of june.. it was stupid... i was doing box jumps in my Cross0fit class and i nailed the corner of one with my shin and gauged a big hole in my shin... went through most of my skin and required 33 stitches... fast forward to recently... still not healing, and then i re-injured it in the EXACT same place on the EXACT SAME box, in the EXACT same way (what are the odds?lol) anyway, i went back to the Dr to have it re-stitched, and he wasnt able to, because there was LITERALY no skin left to stitch... but it was so infected that he took a culture, and guess what?
i have a STAPH infection in my leg! Im on antibiotics that are for anthrax LOL and i cant be outside inthe sunlight GRRRRRRrrrr... so there goes trail runnig.... i feel sorry for myself ;)
oh! but i DID get a new tatoo! YAY!! (trying to get some pics attached)...

ncuneo 08-18-2011 03:17 PM

Good Lord MK! Sorry to hear that :( Get yourself well and even though you're not running as much, don't forget about us :)

I'm super excited today! For one I've already lost 6 lbs of vacation water weight 2 to go and I'll be back to prevacay weight and ready to lose the 10 I gained durning "maintenance". For two my GPS on my phone has been wigging out on me and I finally made the plunge and ordered a Garmin! Super excited to have my first fitness watch with lots of stats to OCD about (my favorite past time;)). It arrives tomorrow.

Lastly I put together a nice little running schedule to finish out the year and get me to 1000 miles give or take depending on my injuries. I'm pretty happy with it and think that it has enough flexibility and rest to get me injury free. I may through in another 1/2 mary at the end of the year, but my schedule takes that into consideration and it won't effect me either way if I decide to do it or decide not to.

Foot is still bugging me a little bit and I'm pretty sure it's planter facitus just waiting for me to push myself too hard to really put me out of commision. So I'm doing my best to cut back my milage and get that taken care of.

Anyhoo - happy girl today.

fitmom 08-19-2011 09:51 AM

I'm back everyone, I am back!!! I ran 3.3 miles in 21 minutes this morning!!!! I cannot believe it. :carrot: I used to run track when I was much younger and was really fast and this morning 'that girl' from a long time ago emerged, lol. I'm so darn excited right now. I feel...amazing. Woot!

Anyway, I'm still aiming for my 4 miles in the next month or so which means I realize that my time might slow a bit as I'm adding on 1/10 of a mile. And to think I almost didn't run this morning because I was so tired from my intervals yesterday but I pushed through my reservations.

Hope everyone is doing well. Have a nice weekend. :)

ncuneo 08-19-2011 03:26 PM

Damn fitmom! You're one fast chicky! That's awesome!

5 miles for me today. The day could not end soon enough I just want to go home and see if my Garmin arrived so I can play with it. Hopefully it doesn't need to be signed for and I end up having to go to UPS tomorrow.

On an awesome not, ALL my vacation weight was water and I am back down to my prevacay weight as of this morning. It flew off in 3 days! So relieved. So now I can get to work on getting back to my comfy zone of 140-143 and then go from there.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Well, I am officially not reading your posts anymore, speedy gonzales! Just kidding - wow that's fast. I think you are ready to go 4 miles right now, but at a more moderate pace - like mine, LOL. I ran 4 miles the week after I finished the C25K running only 3 miles for the previous 3 runs. Go for it! Great job!

BTW - I ran 3 miles yesterday (*whispering* in 38 minutes)

fitmom 08-19-2011 08:16 PM

LOL, speedy gonzales -- that's what my kids and hubby called me. I'm still scared to all-out do the four miles, I have to build it up slowly. The last thing I need is to blow out my knee or something like that. 3 miles in 38 minutes is nothing, I repeat, nothing to sneeze at. That's great time!! Congrats to you. :)

Emme 08-20-2011 10:12 AM

Hey everyone! Mkroyer, I'm sorry to hear about your injury!!! Take good care of yourself.

Well, I ran for the first time outside today instead of on the treadmill. On the treadmill I have been running 2 miles in 26:30 at 5.0 speed and 1.0 incline. Wow, what a difference running outside makes!! The time goes by so much faster and I wore my heart rate monitor to track time and all that good stuff...and I actually ran faster outside. I did 2 miles in 21:21, so I shave 5 minutes off my time when I run outside. I think I might start running outside more often! :)

ncuneo 08-20-2011 06:54 PM

Got my Garmin! AWESOME! Everything I ever wanted to know about my fitness and more! So glad to have something new and fun to feed my OCD :) I've only used it on a short walk so far, can't wait for tomorrow's long run to give it a real go!

fitmom 08-20-2011 07:09 PM

Nixed the run this morning because it was way too hot and was too pooped from a week of doing primarily intervals. So, Monday I'll run again. I can't knock the intervals though because the sprinting has helped me a lot with my speed so...it's all good.

fozentusic 08-21-2011 07:32 PM

I've had a great running weekend! Saturday I did 60 minutes on the treadmill- 50 were running with only three walk breaks of a minute each. I've learned that I need to pace myself so I don't get burnt out. My long slow run was about 5.0 mph and I did 7.3 kms in an hour (including warm up and cool down walk)

Today I was heading to the gym when I thought that I'd take an outdoor run instead. I did a personal best 5k time of 35:59. Doesn't seem like much but that is huge for me especially since it was outdoors including some small hills. Such a change from the treadmill. My pace was around 7:10/km. I need to improve on that slightly for my 5k in October. I would really like to come in sub-33 for that race. We shall see.

fozentusic 08-21-2011 07:41 PM

Also... I'm pondering doing a 5k on Sept 18th in addition to the one on October 16. Talk me into it. ;)
