Ah, thank you so much, Somni and Annita! :D

I love the high I get from jogging, and it's hard to beat the calorie burn. Also, to me, jogging is somehow just less boring than walking. However, I don't jog because I have too much weight on me, and I'm always afraid of doing longterm damage to my joints. (As a side note, a friend of mine who was in her late thirties & not really overweight was regularly jogging on a gym treadmill, and she fractured her hip. Yikes! That made me even more wary).

If you're interested in intervals, you may want to buy something called a Gym Boss (Google it). It's a great little device that times the intervals for you, letting you know with an alarm and a vibration (depending on what you want). You can set the intervals for whatever length of time you want. I use the Gym Boss oftentimes for my strength training, when I don't feel like counting.

Hi Amadeus! I'm in my late thirties and a newbie to jogging too. :) I started running two months ago. I began really slow and walked a lot of the half-hour, lol. Now I am up to 3.1 miles in 27 minutes (with no walking breaks). My belly fat is nearly gone now because of running as well. Don't let anyone try to scare/discourage you with the risk of injury, etc. Just go slow and build your endurance. You'll eventually get to the point where you can jog the whole time but it takes several weeks - at least it did for me. You can do it!! Good luck.

EEP! You all give me so much hope! Sometimes (even though it's only almost day 3) I wonder if I shall ever be able to jog even 3 minutes without stopping!

I have, and still do, worry about injuries, but I still want to do this. I pray that Lord keeps my body intact, haha. xD

I am going to go google Gym Boss right now, lin43! Thank you for the suggestion! I don't have a job right now, though I shall be looking for one soon, but it will definitely be something for me to keep in mind. :)

Awesome job, fitmom! I can't wait until I am able to do the same! :)

Ib found a free app on my smart phone that keeps track of time so ican listen to my mp3 and just wait for the vibrate to switch.. only used it once but it worked well.. I am doing c25k on the tredmill but I hate watching all the stuff on the treadmill so I cover it all up but the speed up and down buttons... really seams to go by faster!!!

I finally gave in and got some podcasts. xD I like the idea about the free app, but I haven't got anything to download it with. Lord willing someday I will. The first thing I want to get, when I land a job, is a phone! xD

Another option for timing is a watch with a countdown timer.

Or just go by how your body feels--run until you need to walk, walk until you want to run again. Continue for 20 minutes. Repeat a few times a week. There's no magic schedule that will turn you into a runner in X time.

I do have a watch that I could use. I just gotta find it! xD

And I think I'm beginning to understand that, haha. But I feel so much better than the first day of running. I am encouraged. :)
