Yoga

Anyone do it at home? I am thinking of adding it to my "off" days to help with flexibility and to keep me movin' all 7 days of the week...share any certain videos/shows you like...thx:dizzy:

I'm just getting back into exercising, but I have done the YOGAmazing videos (video podcast) and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Thanks for the suggestion!:D

I just checked out about 6 yoga dvds from my library and I can't seem to get into any of them :(
There seems to be too much instructional stuff in them and I get bored easily.

Check out your local library and maybe you'll find one that you like.

I loved the David Swenson Short Forms yoga DVD. He's kind of a skinny, nerdy little guy, but the workouts are great! It was the first one I did, and I haven't found any that I like better. It's great for relaxation and flexibility. It also made me feel leaner. The great thing about this DVD is that there are 3 different workouts you can do: a quick 15 min; a longer 30-min (my favorite!); and a 45-min (which was pretty hard!).

From personal experience - have any of you found any slimming/weight loss benefits to yoga? I would also like to look into it, but only if it will be beneficial to my goals. Otherwise, I just see it as a waste of money & time - neither of which I have to spare :) lol

I used to practice yoga every day back when I was in shape and it is amazing for both your body and mind. It will also help you lose weight but it won't make a huge difference. I suggests you look into pilates which is incredible for weight loss and has many of the same benefits as yoga. Hope it helps:)

Depending on the type it can burn up to 700 calories... It's great for toning and strengthening, which is always good for calorie burning.

I take a yoga class three times a week and practice every night for an hour or so, but it's a program my instructor helps me with, not something I spend any extra money on (the classes are included with my Y membership, so they aren't any extra expense either).

If it's possible to become addicted to it, I have. It may or may not help you lose weight--that depends on the type of yoga you do, how long you do it, how often, and the effort you put into it--but it will certainly leave you more flexible, calmer, and more conscious of your body (in a good way, not in a self-conscious way).

I've found it also helps me look as though I've lost weight. Great posture really helps with that. I've continued to lose weight through diet, and I walk and swim in addition to yoga, so it's hard to say how much it's helped with weight loss. It certainly hasn't hurt, though. :D

I do yoga everyday, as recommended by my Doctor to help manage my stress. I love it, it has really, really toned me up, and coming with toning comes losing inches!!!! I dvr (tivo) a yoga program on the Veria Channel, called Yoga for Life. The instructor is really mellow, but it gives you all sorts of different variations to poses for beginners to experts. I have to agree that Pilates is really great too...

I love yoga, though I haven't been doing it for a few months now. I've done enough yoga that I can make my own routines, but nothing beats going to a live class.

I also enjoy the yogajournal podcasts and Dave Farmar's yoga podcasts (all on iTunes). They're free and great for different levels. Just search youtube, google, and iTunes, and you'll find a ton of podcasts and videos to help you out.

As for fitness benefits, when I was doing yoga, I was in the best shape of my life. It does clear your mind and give you a good workout. Good luck!
