Valentine's Day Walking Challenge

:D Hello Everyone! IT's one month to Valentine's Day and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a walking challenge? It would be for four weeks, and will end on Valentine's day! If you are interested post your goal here! On Monday come back and post your distances. I will keep track for everyone and will post how everyone is doing! Come on join in!

I meant to start this 2 days ago, so by all means count whatever you did beginning on Jan. 14th!

(Psst! It doesn't just have to be distance or even walking for that matter, it could be minutes exercised/ how many times a week you want toexercise/ running/ weight training/ whatever! Let's just do it , and motivate each other!

My Goal is 30 miles on elliptical or walking.
13 sessions of weight training
240 minutes Yoga/ Pilates/kickboxing/ballet/etc.

:cb: I have in 2 miles so far.

Kina 01-17-2003 12:29 AM

Hey Melody! I haven't been able to find you all until now. I have still been active on the thread but just not on the same ones as you.

Count me in girl. I need something to be accountable for, that always seemed to keep me going. Let me see...

Elliptical machine...100 miles
Yoga......................2 X a week
Ab roller.................100 reps in 4 weeks

ooow that one is going to be tough. I have been in funky mood these past few days but I got on my elliptical machine for the first time in a couple of weeks and it seemed to do wonders for me. Well anyway I hope that we will get some others that will join us otherwise it's just you and me, kid! LOL

Okay I am off to bed. Talk later.
Kina

Kina 01-17-2003 12:27 PM

I'm about to vaccuum the living room so that I will be able to get my yoga in. My little bird leaves so much bird seed on the ground. I figured if I have to check in on Monday I better get atleast some yoga in this week.

Bye.
Kina

lodyangel 01-17-2003 11:58 PM

Hey Kina! How are you! Good I hope.

Here's what I did today!

10 minutes Boot Camp workout
7 minutes Elliptical .5 mile
10 minutes Kickboxing
10 minutes Yoga

I am going to try to get in another 10 minutes of Yoga after I get off of this computer! You have a huge goal! You must be really active. I know how you feel about being in a funk. If I don't work out I get the same way, something about releasing endorphins when you are moving those buns! Well I will see you baCK HERE ON mONDAY IF NOT BEFORE!

Kina 01-18-2003 10:48 AM

Hi Melody. Well I would really like to focus mainly on the ab roller because my abs is my biggest problem spot. But I know I can't live on ab rolling alone. Needless to say after I vaccuumed I began other things and didn't get my yoga in but I think I am going to sit yoga out for the weekends. I think that will give me the workout but not the jumping everywhere so that I don't wake up anyone. So yoga today. Talk to you later. We are going out of town to visit my little brother. Bye.
Kina

laney1733 01-19-2003 06:12 PM

Hello ladies! I'd like to join. I'll put in for 65 miles on the treadmill between today and Valentines Day. I need to kick up the pace a bit. Did 4 miles yesterday and off today. Do we have a weekly check in? Thanks for having me!! TTFN,

laney1733 01-19-2003 06:13 PM

By the way, I am now off to the movies to eat movie theater popcorn, I'll have to do 6 miles tomorrow!!!!! But, I aved up the points so I don't feel too bad about it, I'm working to keep my guilt in check!

Kina 01-19-2003 09:52 PM

Please, join us Laney. The more the merrier. I think posting your weekly even daily results is a great habit to get into, atleast for me, it keeps me honest. You know what I mean ;) ! Well if it eases your guilt any Laney today is PopCorn Day. And popcorn in moderation couldn't hurt anyone. Just be thoughtful of how much you eat. Also try to go for the small bag that way you will have LESS to eat. I read somewhere that when you order a big bag you usually end up eating all of it without noticing because you are so engrossed in the movie...so true!

Well I am out of here. Hugs to you.
Kina

jacksonmom 01-20-2003 12:13 PM

O.K. everyone I'm back! I know i know it's been a long time. My goal is 40 miles. I've already did 1 yesterday and planning to do 2-3 today since the weather is so nice. I'll check in later on in the week. Thanks for keeping this thread alive!

madtypist 01-20-2003 12:48 PM

Hi Ladies:

I'm in for a 45 mile goal, I am into the walk away the pounds walking tapes, I do 2 miles a day and am working toward the 3 mile tape.

I have done 10 miles last week, I find these tapes easier than actually going outside and doing a walk, which is good because it is a little too cold for walking outside the past week or so.

Hope you girls have a great week.

Suzanne

lodyangel 01-20-2003 01:24 PM

It's Monday! Time to post your totals for last week! Welcome to everyone...Laney, Jacksons Mom, Madtypist...Glad to see you back!

Here are my totals :

Elliptical 2.5 miles
weight training: 1 session
Yoga/ pilates/kickboxing/ ballet: 40 mins.

Gosh, looking at it all aid out on the computer like that it doesn't look like I did all that much!

laney1733 01-20-2003 01:43 PM

Hello everyone.I'm having a great day so far! I ate a healthy breakfast and lunch and I'm trying a new salmon recipe for dinner. But best of all, I got 5 miles in on the treadmill in 1 hr and 10 mins. I am so excited!! I got it back in October and that is the longest distance I've managed so far. All of the kids were cooperating today, so I just kept going!:) I've been working my way up to jogging slowly. I can maintain 5 mph for ten minutes at a time!! THat is absolutely amazing for me because I am so not the athletic type, never have been either. I am working to the day I can jog a continuous mile. I'm so close!!! I have a ways to go to reach my goal of 65 miles. I have a private goal of that for the month of Jan, but my dd was in the hospital and I got behind. I'm hoping to catch up before the end of the month. That's why I set my goal for this challenge at 65 miles too. If I don't make the Jan one, I definately plan to make the Valentines Day one!!
I see you all are doing a couple of different activities. I have a yoga tape and the 2 mile WATP tape but I just can't get into them. I think I need to try harder! I think variety is very important. I want to take a spinning class too, does anyone do that? If so, what do/did you think of it? Biking is my favorite form of exercise in the summer but I can't affod a stationary bike for a couple of more months. Maybe I should get the bike first and work on it for a while before I sign up for a spinning class? I hear they can be brutal. I donno, I'm just rambling now so, everyone have a great day and TTFN,

IRunForFun 01-20-2003 07:54 PM

I'll join, even though it's a week late. I guess mine will be a 3 week challenge, right? ;) Here are my goals...

- Stairclimber 2x a week
- Calisthenics every night
- 20 minutes of anything every day

Normally I'd have loftier goals, but I'm studying for finals this week, so I don't have as much time as usual. I'll post back tomorrow!

laney1733 01-20-2003 08:07 PM

Duh! All that rambling on and I forgot to post my weekly stats! I got 17&1/2 miles in this week. I'm hoping for at least 20 next week. Have a great one! TTFN,

lodyangel 01-21-2003 02:40 PM

laney1733 01-21-2003 04:41 PM

You know, this challenge just started on the 19th? I counted my miles for all of last week to come up with the 17.5 miles. Going from the 19th, I've only got 9.75. Five yesterday and 4.75 today. Geesh, here I am already trying to cheat!! How do I live with myself? You all's schedules sound so much more varied than mine. I need to at least add in some weights for my upper body. Next challenge, I will!!:D Have a great one ladies!! TTFN,

Kina 01-21-2003 07:58 PM

Okay I have to truthfully say that I cannot get that yoga into my schedule. Melody I want to add my stepper to my challenge.

So this is what my goals are along with my calculations:
As of Monday 1/20/03...........................................total s
Elliptical machine...100 miles in 4 weeks...............9 miles
Yoga......................2 X a week..............................none yet
Ab roller.................100 reps in 4 weeks...............20 reps
Stepper.................1600 step reps in 4 weeks......400 step reps

My mom bought a second cardio glide (I think that is what it is called?) and she is going to sale me one and so I may add that to my routine. Now the trick is to get it to fit into my week. I'm going to try afterall isn't that what these challenges are for to get us to try harder?

Okay I have homework and I want to go and get my nails done and then get back early enough to get on my elliptical machine. Talk to you all later. BTW! Meloday thank you.

Kina

lodyangel 01-22-2003 08:32 AM

Laney- We "back dated" our challenge to the 14th, so count everything you have done from then.

Kina- Great start!

I finally got a pedometer yesterday! :) So I have a new goal...184,000 steps by Feb 14th. :)

Kina 01-22-2003 04:17 PM

I didn't go back as far as the 14th but those are my calculations for the 16th and up to Monday.

Long day and yet not enough hours to get it all done. I have homework like you wouldn't believe and I am so upset that it seems I may not have time to get some more exercise in. Luckily I got some in this morning. But I like to have some exercise in at the end of the day only to unwind and get some kinks out.

Talk to you all later. I have to get to that homework.
Kina

madtypist 01-22-2003 10:04 PM

My total so far is 10 miles.

This week is going very well, I have been doing the walking tapes everyday, I did 4 miles on Monday so that was good.

Everyone is off to a great start, have a great week.

Suzanne

Tahoemom 01-23-2003 10:01 PM

Hello everyone, Kina suggested I join your challenge since I seem to need a kick in the fanny.

My goal is to get in at least a 2 miles of walking/jogging a day and weights twice a week. I am starting today 1/23/03.

I have tried a yoga tape and just couldn't get the hang of it. Does anyone have a good aka easy one to suggest?

Kina 01-23-2003 11:36 PM

Hi Tahoemom...okay everybody LINE UP for her complimentary kick in the fanny welcome...ROTFL! I couldn't resist that one Tahoemom. WELCOME to the thread.

You know the yoga one I use is called "Yoga for Dummies" would you believe. It's on DVD and I bought it at Wal Mart for about 10 bucks. It goes slow enough for me to keep up. The best thing is that it shows each step before going into the whole routine.

Okay everybody you know there are no MAGIC WANDS here it's up to ourselves to make the difference in our lives...we either choose to become healthier and live longer so that we can enjoy more that life has to offer or we take short end of the stick and have a miserable ending. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?

I screwed up my eating at lunch time with mom. But I will be paying for it all weekend. I plan to workout each day instead of taking a break as I had first planned.

On the other hand I am very proud of myself because I am getting up and getting my exercise in in the morning I guess my body knows I won't get it done in the evening.

UGH...you guys...I went and got my nails done and the lady tore off my cuticle and OMG I am in like such pain. But my nails do look good. Okay well homework is sitting right in front of me and I have to get it done or I never will. Oh! I made a friend in class the other day and she thinks I am smart...teehee...*ssshh* what she doesn't know won't hurt her...LOL.

Talk to you all later. Tahoemom GET MOVIN' GIRLFRIEND!
Kina

Tahoemom 01-27-2003 11:16 AM

Good Morning,

I wan't sure when we were suppose to check in, so I will do it on Monday mornings, when I do my weigh ins. Since Thursday, I have done weights once and have jogged 4 miles. It looks like I better put in at least 3 miles this morning.

My treadmill is calling, so I will wish you all well.

madtypist 01-27-2003 03:09 PM

Hey, how is everyone doing.???????

Welcome Tahoemom, I'm sure you will enjoy this challenge, it really keeps you moving.

I have been very well with my exercise this past week, however the eating is another story. :p

Since Christmas I have been having a problem getting a handle on the eating, so starting today I am going to try and behave.

My total for last week is 10 miles.

Total to date is 20 miles.

Have a great week!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Suzanne

Kina 01-27-2003 05:14 PM

Woohoo! I got the cardio glide from my mom this weekend. I haven't calculated my hours for the week.

I will get back to you all on it.

How's everyone doing?

laney1733 01-28-2003 11:22 AM

Wow, I did 26.25 miles on the treadmill this week. I think I'm pushing too hard though cuz my knee is hurting and I h'm getting a blister from my shoes rubbing. I'm taking today off to rest and recoup. Hopefully I'll feel refreshed tomorrow!! Everyone looks great, you're all working so hard! It just doesn't seem fair that it is so HARD to lose weight. WWAAHH...
Congrats on the Cardio glide Kina!! And I know what you mean about getting a handle on the eating, madtypist, it seems like I have no problem sticking with the exercise, it's following a healthy eating plan that I screw up on constantly!!!! Take care all, TTFN,

lodyangel 01-29-2003 08:22 AM

Amen to that Serina!

Kina 01-30-2003 01:11 AM

Busy Busy that's what I am up to.
Totals up to date: Totals

Yoga......................2 X a week..............................none yet
Ab roller.................100 reps in 4 weeks...............60 reps
Stepper.................1600 step reps in 4 weeks......800 step reps

School has me going crazy and I am so exhausted. I think I seriously need to take my multi-vitamin and get that exercise in DAILY.

Serina~~~you are doing great; keep up the good work.
Melody~~~how are you doing; is your baby feeling better.
Tahoemom~~~come on you can do it; I KNOW YOU CAN!

Kina

madtypist 02-03-2003 02:33 PM

How is everyone doing, so far so good for me, last week I put in 9 miles of the walking tapes.

Today the roads are bare, I really want to go for a bike ride outside it is very tempting but it is a little cold today for that, by the time I got on snow pants etc. I would not be able to ride. :dizzy: so I will be doing my 2 mile walking tape. I did it once this morning and will get in another one by the end of the day.

My total to date is 29 miles.

I hope you have a great week, keep it moving :D

Suzanne

Kina 02-04-2003 07:47 PM

Hi, Suzanne. I have to say last week was not a great success. I mentioned getting the cardio glide from Mom; well it made my knees hurt like you would not believe. So that kept me from doing much exercise other than getting around campus. But lots of good things happening in my life. I don't think I mentioned but I was invited to join Alpha Betta Gamma Honor Society at the college I attend. I wasn't sure if I should take the honor...well I did decide to go through with it. Then my DH and I were approved for a auto loan! We are new proud owners of a Ford F-150 you can see our new baby by clicking on this link http://r_aniroc.tripod.com/writingpo...002/index.html Then DH aslso started a new job.

Ooops visitors just arrived. Will continue later. If you get to my website please include your sentiments on my guestbook. Talk to you all later. I will return to complete this.
Kina

Tahoemom 02-05-2003 11:20 AM

Hello everyone,

Kina I am glad you accepted the honor of joining Alpha Beta Gamma honor Society. Congrats :) A new car, how fun.

Well I haven't checked in in a while but I have been exercising. My running totals so far are:
treadmill/jogging 16 miles I am going for 46
Weights (my class) 4 times I'm going for 7
I see I am going to have to bump up my jog to at least 2.5 miles a day if I am going to meet my challenge.

Hope all is going well for the rest of you.
Tahoemom

madtypist 02-10-2003 10:12 AM

Hey, how is everyone doing????????

Congrat's Kina on your joining the Alpha Beta Gamma
honour society.

Just a few more days till this event is over.

My milage is pretty good, last week I walked 14 miles so I am happy with that and I just finished 2 miles so far today toward this week, so all is good.

Hope you ladies are still moving, have a great week.

:) Suzanne

Tahoemom 02-10-2003 10:46 AM

Hello everyone,

Just a quick update on mileage.

Jogged 23.5 miles out of 46
Weights 5 out of 7

It doesn't look like I will meet my jogging challenge by Valentine's Day :( I'm not feeling to bad about it. I am finally feeling good about the exercise. I have added a Pilates for Dummies tape that I am trying to do on the days I don't have my weights class.

Hope the rest of you were more successful on completing the challenge. Or maybe you are feeling the way I do that I have succeeded even though I won't complete all the aimed for miles.

lodyangel 02-10-2003 09:07 PM

Hello all. Sorry I felloff there for awhile. I have been around just haven't had time to get here. I blew it last week. I don't know if I will make any of my goals, but I am going to bust my AZZ this week to try to make some.

I hope everyone is doing well. I will post again tomorrow my totals so far.

Kina 02-11-2003 08:03 AM

Hey Tahoemom, you are doing so well. That is fantastic. I was watching Oprah the other day and something made alot of sense...this lady that was very overweight came on the show with such results. Oprah asked "how did you do it" and the lady said "The first 30 days I just committed to moving; anything to get some exercise for the day. Then later dealt with the eating." I was like wow. So that is what I committed to doing yesterday.

I wasn't able to do much the past few weeks with school and the pain that that cardio glide gave me. But then I ran into the picnic table and gave myself a huge bruise on my knee...ouch. As if that was all I needed. But I jumped on my elliptical machine yesterday and I will jump on this afternoon.

Okay I will calculate at the end of the week. I am glad to see that you all are doing wonderful. Thank you Suzanne; I hope to be able to uphold the honor of the society.

I have a lot of work to get done before the end of the week; I am going to work my hardest. Talk to you all later.
Kina

Tahoemom 02-12-2003 11:26 AM

Hello everyone,

Kina, I watched that Oprah as well (my kids weren't to happy with me they wanted Justice League). I loved it, it was so motivating. I was so happy to hear that woman say that she thought you should concentrate on moving the first month. I totally agree with her that if you are trying to be perfect about what you eat and exercise from the start you (or should I say me) are more apt to fail. I am now making sure I jog everyday and am also trying to get in so tummy exercises ( as little as 5 minutes worth is okay with me) and am not beatting myself up when I don't eat as well as I should. I know that I do have to watch what I eat because I am no longer a teenager that only has to move to lose. But that is oay with me, the weight will come off.

I have now stepped off my soapbox and am going to wish everyone and great rest of the week. Please send me good vibes to keep away from the sugar cookies I have tomake today for my daughter's kindegarten class.
Anne

Tahoemom 02-14-2003 11:23 AM

Happy Valentine's Day everyone,

I am just checking in with my finally totals.

Jogged 36 of my goal of 46 miles
Did weights 7 out of the 7 times I had hoped for. ( this part was easy because I go to my weights class 2 times a week)

I know I didn't do as much as I hoped for but I did enjoy the challenge. Is anyone up for another one?

Anne

madtypist 02-14-2003 06:12 PM

Well another challenge is over, it sure goes by fast.

I have done 41 miles, not 45 as I had set out to do, but that is ok, I will certainly be up for the next one.

I hope all you ladies did well and can step up and do another one.

I will be around for the next event.

Have a great weekend.

Suzanne.
