ideas for Low Impact Exercise?
Hi chickies...
I am wondering if any of you have some ideas about low impact exercise. I hurt my foot and my podiatrist said I could do any "LOW impact exercise." I start physical therapy for my foot soon and I was thinking the therapist may have some good ideas but until then I was wondering if anyone had any ideas- not asking for medical advice. My internist said swimming, walking and the elliptical are good choices. Any other ideas? Thanks!! |
Hi!
I'm recovering from foot surgery, so am in sort of the same situation as you (except I can't get my foot wet, so swimming is out). I'd recommend swimming if you can. At the moment I am walking as much as I can, and doing mainly strength work. I do Pilates, crunches, arm stuff and as much leg exercises as I can do without putting any pressure on my toes. What I've learned is even the most low impact of exercises (walking) still put a lot of pressure on your feet/toes, so depending on what is wrong with your foot, I'd recommend caution! |
yoga :)

For low impact I use my mini trampoline daily. It's low impact so doesn't stress the joints or hurt the feet and it's great for cardio and increasing the metabolism. I got very strong legs doing about 10 minutes a day while watching TV, and along with calorie counting, the trampoline helped me lose 35 lb.
But you should probably take the advice of your physical therapist who knows your personal specific limitations. |
I would wait until you see your physical therapist. They know about exercises that you can do and more importantly things that you should avoid.
I used to exercise on a mini trampoline, thinking it was low impact and good for me, until I got neck issues and was told by my PT to not do it anymore. |
Thanks everyone,
Wishing you a speedy recovery Claire! |
