Should I run my half marathon this coming Sunday?

  • This Sunday I am doing my second half,I star training for this one since January .
Everything was going great but live happens and I mess whit my training in the last 3 weeks, I haven't got my long runs in except for this past Sunday I did 8 miles , three weeks before that I did 10miles , them I skip 3 long runs.

my question is Can i still do my half or it will be to risky?

This is my training for the past 7 weeks

    May 2 to today : 5.5m- 4m- 8m
    April 25 to May 1 : 5m- 4m- 4m
    April 18 to April 24 : 3m - 6m
    April 11 to April 17 : 4.5m - 5m -2 m
    April 4 to April 10 : 7m - 5m -10m
    Mach 28 to April 3: 4m- 2m- 4m- 9m
    March 21 to March 27: 4m- 2m- 4m- 8m
  • Being that it's your second I think you'll be fine. What was your weekly milage before you started training? Not to mention you got a 10 miler in there not too long ago and a lot of HM training programs peak at 10. Only you know your body and you have experience with a half so you should know if you can handle it or not.

ETA: I wasn't really paying attention to the dates and it looks like that 10 miler was longer ago then I thought. So I'll stick with my only you know your body advice. If it was me I'd feel ok running it, but know that I'd be at risk for injury and that it wouldn't be a very enjoyable run. Good luck with your decision
  • I say go for it. I have run two half marathons now. The second one was on May 1st, first on March 27th, so not too far apart. However, due to surgery, I didn't do any long runs between April 1st and May 1st, and I only finished the 2nd half in 2 minutes longer than the first. You have quite a base of running, even without the long runs. I believe you can do this and you should. Just my 2 cents, for what it's worth.

    Good luck with it!!
  • I haven't run a half, but I read a lot trying to obtain my goal if doing one. I would think as long as you listen to yourself, don't be prideful and take walk breaks if necessary, you'll be fine. Ncuneo was right, you have a pretty good, long term base.

    Good luck!
  • I did my first half two weeks after recovering from a knee injury that meant I couldn't run for 2 months. I had a good base, but my longest run was 14km beforehand. I managed it and this year I smashed my time by 13mins because I had time to train properly (although I was on antibiotics for the race, why do these things happen so close to racetime?! )

    You'll be fine!
  • you can do the distance...Its all mental at this point. you dont lose the ability to run long over a matter of weeks...... or even months. WHen was your FIRST half marathon? How long ago?

Thanks for your answer... my first half was back on September.
  • Mind over matter. Physically, you can do the distance. Don't freak yourself out because of missing out on normal distance race training. You've trained. You haven't "lost" your training. Go get 'em!!!
