not in the mood to work out

I like the gym, but it gets to a point where I just don't have the energy. I haven't stopped going, but I just been feeling tired lately. I don't really have anyone to work put with. Usually I'm pumped up ready to go, but now I'm dragging. I bought the5 hour energy shot and I'll see how thaty pays out. I have a month left on my membership and I hope to look into doing something else. Maybe kickboxing.

My opinion - forget the 5 hour energy drink. D R A G yourself to the gym. Get on a machine in front of a TV if you do not have anyone to talk to. Listen to your IPod. THINK. Whatever you do, get yourself there. You will not regret it. You will be proud that you dragged yourself there, AND you will have more energy.

Also I want to add I did some math and I will need to run 8mph for the air force at the slowest. At the most I did 4.5mph very very briefly. It looks impossible for me to actually run. I thought 5mph was considered running but apparently not. I never been a runner. I don't even know where to start. I've been doing interval training and slowly building up but 8mph????

Consult an expert, perhaps at the recruiting office. I believe the more you exercise and watch what you eat, the faster you move.

According to this you have to do the 1.5 mile run in at least 13:56 minutes that's more like a 9 minute mile (or 6.6 mph). How did you get 8 mph?

You need both cardio and strength training each week. I go if I feel like it or not, if I'm tired or not (always feel energized when I'm done) and anything else. I write my exercise hour on my appointment book and just do it. I do water aerobics 3 days a week, weight training 3 days, and treadmill or stepper or spinning. I'm 69 years old and have severe asthma and COPD and if I can do it, anyone can.

I am also in the exact same situation as you! Stick with it! There are many simple plans for runners for beginners on the internet that can ease you into running, but making sure you improve. My first 1.5mile had a time of 24+minutes, and in 3 weeks I had cut it down to 18minutes. I still have another 5 minutes to try and cut off before my impending fitness test, though...

But it does get easier, trust me :)

I haven't been sleeping that well and am tired in the mornings, so like you I feel like I have no energy to work out. I go anyway and do a long slow first exercise- right now that means 30 minutes on the stationary bike. I bring a magazine and at first just start pedaling leisurely at level 6 (of 10). By about 15 minutes in my heart rate is up and the adrenaline is pumping. I put down my magazine and start pedaling faster. By the end I fee like I have tons of energy and hop on the treadmill for a run, then onto weights.

This method has worked really well for me- just starting out slow and leisurely and tricking my body into waking up. It does, and then I go for it :)

As someone else said, just GET to the gym and start moving and you'll be set- finding the motivation to actually walk through the doors is half the battle!

The end of winter is the toughest time for me. I'm SO SICK of being inside! Within the next few weeks, you can start mixing it up with outside stuff - hikes, running, biking, etc. Doing other things besides my gym routine keeps me motivated.

On the running -
I started out at 222 and could barely walk 2 miles slowly without feeling winded. I never trained to run. When I reached goal, I said to myself "I wonder if I could run a 5k?" On Thanksgiving, I hopped on the treadmill and ran it without stopping - fast! Getting the weight off is priority - the fitness gets better as long as you're staying active.

P.s. I found a cardio hip hop class at a local rec center that I do 1-2x week. That really breaks up the boring gym routine. Maybe there is something like that near you? Usually, it's like a $5 drop in fee.
