Twitching After Exercise
Okay so I did a whole new strength training/cardio routine yesterday and I've been sore all morning. I decided I was going to give myself the day off of exercise but I don't own a car and I had to pop over to the store for something so I walked the 1.5 miles to the store and back and when I went to sit down my muscles started twitching. It's not painful or anything in fact it feels like some of the soreness is gone but it's like my muscles are being electricuted or something. Is this normal?

This has happened to me a few times before but I have no idea why. I hope someone else has any kind of helpful info.

I am interested in hearing the answer to this. My thighs twitch like crazy after a 30-minute fast paced walk, but nothing after I run. It doesn't hurt, but it feels really weird.

When I started drinking whole milk, my muscle twitching went away.
Maybe it will work for you too. Also, try drinking a big glass of water when the twitching starts. |
Your body maybe lacking in electrolytes. My best friend is a personal trainer and physiotherapist and I asked her this question as it used to happen to me too. It's nothing to be concerned about but you need to replace the sodium and calcium you maybe losing during your workouts. If its during moderate exercise just stay well hydrated with water, if its lengthy or strenuous exercise maybe you should consider Gatorade or another form of electrolyte replacer.

My teacher used to advise us to drink a glass of chocolate milk after serious cardio (90 minutes hard biking, kind of cardio). I'm afraid I don't recall the scientific reason why, but I do remember it stopped the random muscle spasms/twitching. Hmmm... all I have are anecdotes! :D

Took today off because I was still sore in the morning. Haven't had any more issues with the twitching. I will definitely drink a glass of milk next time it happens and see if it helps. Thanks for the advice guys. :)

It's from lactic acid buildup in your muscles. Staying hydrated and doing more stretching before/after working out can help. I think it's kind of fun, actually :) I imagine that it's the fat cells popping (which I know isn't really possible)
