First Race

  • I did it! I ran my first 5K today. It was amazing. I was surprised to find myself excited and not nervous because I had been nervous for the last week. It is not like I was trying to win, so I don't know what I was anxious. About a 1/10 of a mile in, I was thinking, what am I crazy? I should just stop and walk right now, I can't do this. Then I looked up and saw all these people and thought, "Wow, I am a PART of this!" and kept on running. My boyfriend and kids braved the cold to cheer me on. My 12-year-old son put on his Facebook status that he was so proud of me, and my 9-year-old son must have said, "I am so, so proud of you mom. You did so good!" about 20 times. And my little one, well he was just cold, but he made me a sign.

I made it in 34:09, which was 3,769th place LOL My goal was to run beginning, middle, and end, with no time in mind, so I am happy! In fact, my legs feel fine, but my face hurts from smiling so much today!
  • Congratulations!!! You should be so proud of yourself and the courage you had to run your first race! That's a great time, too! WAY TO GO!
  • OMG fatpants!!~ where the heck have you been ?? lol whats new?
  • I think the biggest "payoff" is your kids saying that...you must be so happy!
  • Congratulations! I love doing 5k's! I am doing one on Sunday... I have to find some green to wear.

It definately was the biggest payoff! I told them that is how I feel about them when I watch them play football and baseball. My favorite part of the race was when I rounded the final corner and saw my boys, boyfriend, and sister waving and yelling for me :0) Second favorite, when they called my name and number as I crossed the line. There were over 5,000 participants, and I didn't realize they tried to name us all as we finished.

Thanks! I know it wasn't a great time, but at 11.01 minutes per mile, it is a great time for ME. My usual is an 12 minute mile, and before yesterday I hadn't ran more than 2.5 miles straight through.
  • Congratulations! That's awesome! I can't wait to do my first 5km.
