How am I doing? What should I aim for? (running a 5k)
Ok, so I am currently training for a charity 5k run March 5th. I know, not much time to train. ;)
I'm going off of time on a treadmill right now, and I do know that it's different out on the actual road... But yeah. Before critiquing my time, let me clarify a couple things first: I am running and walking, at about a 1 to 2 ratio, the 2 being the time walking. Walking was always (on the treadmill) at 3 mph. Running was always 5 mph. I break out in a major rash and get lightheaded when running... So I had to make sure I did occasionally walk. I had a big meal 30 minutes beforehand *blushes* I am a beginner runner. My time was 38 minutes. If I have a specific time to hit, I'll try to hit it. My goal today was 40 minutes. So yeah, any thoughts on treadmill time to aim for, and since I'm going to practice at least a couple times on a track and a road beforehand, what times should I aim for? Pretty much, any thoughts? I want to be able to run in multiple charity 5k runs... So yeah. I need to have personal goals, but they need to be realistic. ;) So yeah, any thoughts at all? ETA: I'm going to be doing weights and once in a while zumba intermixed... Not just running. ;) |
Good Luck on your 5k !!!!
One of the things I figured out when I started these events is that the treadmill is awesome but your road time will be different. Do a day or 2 in the week on the road to get a better idea of your "average". (unless you live in snowpocolypse land :) ) What kind of terrain is the 5k on ? If this is your first just aim to finish :) and just remember to have fun. |
The 5k run will be held at the houston airport, on the tarmac. And yeah... I know my road time will be different, and I will definitely do some time on the road and around the track. I know that around the block is approximately a mile... so two and a bit around the block and I could time that...
So yeah. I want to push myself... but I'm most definitely not expecting to win. Just finish... in a faster time then my lil' bro. He took 50 minutes during his last 5k run... I want to at least get a 49. ;) ETA: Whoops!! Forgot to add: Thanks! |
but I'm most definitely not expecting to win
Well you will have already beat all of those folks that didn't haul their butts out of bed :) |
