People watching me phobia...

  • Hello yello..

So first I had 24 hr Fitness, then I had CalFit for like a year. Yeaaa didn't really do it much. I have this crazy phobia about people watching me - I know its stupid, but even when people are bigger than I am, I feel shy running or doing weights or something in front of them.

Moreso if there's guys in the room. Yikes. It's a mental thing.

But recently I've started exercising on my own. Like I'll walk to an unfinished housing development area and jog around there.

Are there any total body workouts I can do with weights?

    Thanks in advance!
  • I've put a plug in for yoga on other threads, so apologies for if I'm repeating myself Though they don't use weights, yoga and pilates are great in-home exercises that can give you strength training and, depending on the type, also great cardio. You can buy videos or even download free ones on YouTube. I like doing those a lot more than aerobics videos, though people here might have good idea for those that give good total body workouts. Happy exercising!
  • Ditto on the yoga. I went to a yoga class that left me so spent I went to bed at 8:30 pm! I really like Denise Austin's yoga DVDs for home. She has a bunch of different yoga and pilates work outs that it easy to learn the names of the poses and pilates exercises.
  • Another vote for yoga. Relaxing, toning, flexibility - perfect!
  • The class I went to last night was called "heated yoga" - so in the dead of winter, you get the added bonus of looking forward to the cold after class! Lol!
  • OP, your not crazy at all...I couldn't agree with you more! I HATE GYMS for that very fact. I just hate sweating around other people and I hate the competitive glares and the men staring as you squat...sharing equipment...strange hands touching the same equipment...aaaaahhhh...HATE IT!

That said, google core bodyweight exercises. These are best for stamina and strength training...and simple WALKING (it's FREE).

    Happy trails!
  • I do workout DVDs or videos at home for that very reason. I don't like to exercise with other people. My personal favorites are from The Firm. You can start with light weights (3 and 5 lbs) and move up from there.
